Donating our body to the science
-
Peace,
reading a beautiful post of Tay that contains what follows
Tay said
... once we accept that we are not our bodies, then it is very easy to see that the only way we could have experienced this life was to be in a vehicle composed of the fabric of this life../..But we are not our bodies. We don't need these things../.. We are eternal beings placed in this temporary flux to test our mettle.I remembered an article in a Spanish newspaper about donating our body to the School of Medicine to teach, learn, and investigate with it.
Some people who have expressed through a legal public document their will of donating were interviewed. Their reasons in general were to avoid their families the painful proccess after the decease. Others alleged to offer an use to the otherwise useless corpse. What are your thoughts about this? Is there any specific position from the muslim point of view?
Thanks -
Peace Elena,
Thank you for the kind words. I'm not sure of the official Muslim position, if there is one at all, but I've never read anything to prohibit being an organ donor or body donor, for that matter. I made sure to select this option on my most recent driver's licence, and encourage all of my friends and family to do the same.
I'm just not sure of how desperate scientists are these days for cadavers. This is worth looking into. I imagine with all the John and Jane Doe's, there is probably enough to go around.

Peace Tay,
It's a very noble deed to tick the organ donor box.
I'm still very reluctant to do so, as on occasions there can be things done like keeping people alive on rescusitation till the organs are harvested causing anguish amongst relatives who may be against it etc.
I agree with the argument that it's better to donate them than bury them but the logistics of the donation process can be very intrusive in the end of life process which makes me hesitate.
Thank you both for raising this issue.

peace to all,
no way in hell will they get my body.......it might be wrinkled and shriveled like a prune but i ain't about to give it to any quack scientists to poke around and slice up.........i'll donate to God's earth to decompose as it was intended and to nourish the earth as it nourished me. -

Suppose an unfortunate relative of yours need a heart/kidney/retina transplant?

peace,
i love the family but organ donation's not looking too good at this time........when i'm dead, wrap me in a cloth, take me to a mountain and bury the whole package.....i don't trust those doctors to give the organs to my family first........more likely they'd sell them on the black market. i prefer to become compost and help grow some vegetation to replace some of what has been raped from this planet in the name of corporate greed. whatever grows on that spot may someday feed an animal or human and that will be one small way of thanking Allah for the life He gave me
