Quran doesnt specify that it can only be used for medicine and not for fun or pleasure. So I guess its still open to individuals how they wanna use it. But one should focus that no harm is done thru it..

Khi- Salam. I disagree. Quran says 'FAJTANIBU...' which means 'abstain' n is clearly a command '...la'alakum tuflihhoon' meaning 'so tht u may succeed'. Therefore intoxicants n gambling r prohibited. Period! How can we let individuals decided as 2 how much posion they shld take??! GOD Bless!

I think it's more of a motive issue. What is the reason you want to gamble? Is it to help your family pay bills, or get more cash to spend on materialistic things? Also, the addiction part, where it basically steers your life, thus preoccupation with this activity leaves you with less time for ALLAH.

Gambling is NOT A CURE to pay ones' bills but a lust for money. Get a job or any work to establish "permanent and/or temporary" flowing income. If one looses at gambling, one pays more bills. Gambling is a chance, job/work is not.

Sure it's not a quick, cuz it's a game of chance. But, it can be a temporary fix. A lot of people for whatever reason, may not have the education to acquire a job, or may not have the time to wait to accumalate $.
I don't condone it when used for selfish reasons, but I understand and someone exhausting all lawful options to do what it takes to support their family.

A "chance" is not a temporary fix. If one has the money to gamble, I'm sure one has the money to pay ones' bills and support ones' family. Besides, a temporary fix can be borrowed investment, from family members, friends, acquaintances, banks, credit cards, etc., with the undrestanding of repaying them back in due course. In this way one doesn't LOOSE their money as in a "CHANCE/GAMBLING". There's no excuse of finding a job/work regardless of the amount of return. In other words, an engineer or a doctor being unemployed and having financial problems can very well get a job of a janitor, if that's what it takes to support your family and bills.
Btw and FYI, I was once a great gambler in Las Vegas and have known many personalities at several casinos. I survived but almost all of them, both rich and poor, succumbed to their financial greeds including their loved ones.
I've been off and on from employment, for longer periods and hardships, but guess what, I've always paid my bills and supported my family without having to "gamble". It takes courage and responsibility my friend. Be HE Glorified.
Take care and GOD bless.

That's why I put can be a temporary fix, cause you can win, or you can lose. Their's more games and ways to win $ then what u just see in a casino. You can start small, of course you will have to use your winnings to win even more.
Congratulations on your victory, most definitely ALL PRAISE IS DUE TO ALLAH

Hi,
Support for upholding of our life?s necessities can only be taken out of values that exist in a community.
The ground rule of the message in the Qur?an concerning this matter is very simple and says that every human being has the right to a share in the wealth of the community. If you are fit and able, and there is nothing holding you back from adding to the values of your community, you have a duty to do that, and from this added value, you are entitled to a certain part, the rest is to be kept by the community, for common needs.
If you are not fit or able, and there is no way you can contribute, you are entitled to support from the common values in the community.Gambling is not creating any added values to the community; it is only shifting already existing values from one hand to another, regardless of needs or rights in any way, thereby breaking the very simple ground rules of distribution of values.
As soon as we accept gambling we accept an unfair distribution of wealth.
I.e. we accept to take values that rightfully belong to others, and we accept to let others take values that rightfully belong to us.?In them is great harm, and a benefit for mankind; but their harm is greater than their benefit.?
?You shall avoid them?It is not forbidden, but it is said that this is not a good way to distribute values in a community.

Salam Ali Omar,
?You shall avoid them?
It is not forbidden, but it is said that this is not a good way to distribute values in a community.
Khi- GOD says 'faajtabuhu' which means 'to abstain' n this is a command from GOD n is thus clearly forbidden. U can use different words n phrases 2 forgive something. Unfortunately some ppl deparately look 4 the magical word 'haraam' in the Quran 4 something 2 be forbidden. If this is so then how abt cheating n robbing. Those have not been declared 'haraam' in Quran. Yet r they foprbidden or not? GOD Bless!

Hi idmkhizar,
What is ?robbing and cheating??
In my vocabulary it means someone is forcefully acquiring something that is not rightfully his/hers. Or, in short ?stealing?, or ?theft?.
Since the Qur?an mentions a certain punishment (under the law) for this, it must mean that it is not in accordance with the law, or simply unlawful?Regds

PEace,
my point is that both are froms of gambling.
What we are doing by shunnin both intoxicants and games is putting words into the mouth of God.
Fact is they are not illegal. We are advised by the lord to stay away from them but they are not illegal.
For people to come here and start claiming that they are illegal/ a sin is ridiculous!!!!
You shall not approach salat under the influence of intoxicants.
This verse CLEARLY points out that intoxicants are not illegal. For if they were it would be contradictory, to the spirit of the Quran, as the Quran describes a "perfect" muslim but in this instance there is a chance that that "perfect" muslim is able to be intoxicated.

Khi- Salam. In case of robbing u r right. In case of theft n cheating theres no direct force on the ppl. Another example is adultery. GOD Bless!

Khi- Salam. I explained this already in another post. A peson need not intoxicate himself in order 2 be intoxicated. He cld be made 2 be so. Besides the word 'sukaara may also refer 2 a state of mind where ur not properly in ur conscience like just after a very short sleep when u r strill very tired. U shld not observe salat in such conditions. Then there r medicines which one may have 2 take but which have a mind covering effect. Thus this verse by no means implies tht u can intoxicate urself deleberately outside salat. GOD Bless!

Peace,
But quite CLEARLY there is no mention that you will be intoxicated by 'accident'.
You need to rethink this topic as what you are pointing at is bordering on ridiculous (no offence intended but I call it as I see it).
The major problem with trying to revolutionise the Islamic world is that people find it to hard to let go of their rituals.
Not in one instance is it mentioned that intoxicants are banned.
Theft, adultery, killing, proclaiming partners with God all banned, and all clearly explained to be banned.
-

Khi- Salam. Whether it is mentioned or not does not make any differece. It is obvious tht this can happen. GOD clearly says tht al-kamr n al-maiser r satan's handiwork 'FAAJTNIBUHU(abstain from tht)'. Thus this nis a command.
You need to rethink this topic as what you are pointing at is bordering on ridiculous (no offence intended but I call it as I see it).
Khi- It doesnt mattter how u see it. It is clear tht using intoxicants 4 pleasure n enjoyment is forbidden. Medical uses is an exceptional thing.

Khi- So u think a society in which there is gambling n drinking is more prosperous then the one which abstains from it?
Not in one instance is it mentioned that intoxicants are banned.
Khi- 'faatnibuhu' is a command n is enough 2 understand tht we r not 2 do it.
Theft, adultery, killing, proclaiming partners with God all banned, and all clearly explained to be banned.
Khi- So is gambling n drinking as mentioned above. GOD Bless!

Khi- It doesnt mattter how u see it. It is clear tht using intoxicants 4 pleasure n enjoyment is forbidden. Medical uses is an exceptional thing.
It is clear???????????
The book is nothing but clear on what it backs, so if you're having difficulty explaining it to me, then clearly it is NOT clear.
Khi- So u think a society in which there is gambling n drinking is more prosperous then the one which abstains from it?
And do you care to point out where I have backed that stance??????
Assumptions rarely do any good.
Brother Joe posted a great post on this topic, a long time ago, how a lot of things can be intoxicating and so this verse wasn't merely directed at alcohol.
As an example, some people are very passionate about following football. They are literally intoxicated with their support for their club. Such intoxication has resulted in riots, stabbings, DEATHS!!!!!!!
so now, are we to ban football from this world as well??? Because it can be intoxicating.
Khi- 'faatnibuhu' is a command n is enough 2 understand tht we r not 2 do it.
No it is not. It's not what you derive, it's what is said.
-
so now, are we to ban football from this world as well??? Because it can be intoxicating.
Khi- I never said tht alcohol in general shld be prohibited. I said 2 intoxicate oneself deliberately 4 enjoyement is tht wht is wrong n so is gambling which is merely done 4 enjoyement, in the hope 2 win.
No it is not. It's not what you derive, it's what is said.
Khi- Wht do u mean here? 'faatnibuhu' means 'abstain from it'. GOD Bless!
