Well talking specifically talking about Bollywood movies, muslims(in a rather very broad sense) take on roles of hindus and bow before/pray to hindu gods in the movies at times. Actors like Sharukhan, amir khan etc.
My wonder was always why can't they just do muslim roles to educate or at least entertain the masses.
Fire, it can be used to cook one's meals or for arson,acting itself could be more a neutral thing in this sense. It is was being done with it that really matters.
I myself was an amatuer musician and sometimes sang songs (metal) about God but some did not like it (not the metal) calling it blaspheme and stuff..They even got offended when i used to start the jamming sessions with a ?n the name of God".......I know i sidetracked forgive me.. -
Acting/singing is not haram in itself, but ofcourse it is possible to make it haram. As you mention these Muslim actors who bow down to hindu idols, this is clearly haram. Would you consider something like "The Village" or "Spiderman" haram? If so, on what basis? A movie like "Bruce Almighty" where we have a man playing God is clearly haram. So it depends on the movie/song, but acting/singing in itself is not haram.

Just my 2 cents...
Art is a high form of expression. What is most important is the message that is intended. If it is chaotic or akin to distraction, then it's probably no good. If it is inspiring, motivational, thought-provoking, or even revealing in the better sense of the word, then it's probably good.
We must also remember that movies in particular are symbolic representations of the author's intentions. With that said, I see no reason to call a movie like "Bruce Almighty" haram, as the movie clearly promotes compassion, mercy, selflessness, cause-and-effect, and most importantly, the Oneness of God and the interconnection of life.

In my opinion, your profession cannot justify you bowing down to idols. Just the act is an abomination. Look at this verse
"There is a good example set for you by Abraham and those with him. They said to their people 'We disown you and the idols that you worship besides God. We reject you, and you will see nothing from us except animosity and hatred until you believe in God alone.' " (604)
That is what believers should be doing, not using excuses, whatever they may be, to bow down to idols. They are presenting themselves as idol worshippers to millions of people even if it is a movie.

What do u guys say ??idolatry is the worst sin . it should not be promoted in anyway . it should be condemned when u see it . and when praying to the hindu gods while acting in bollywood movies , u know how many ppl can be inspired by the characters in the movie .

If you don't believe in it then you won't act it well. On the other hand, if you act it so well without believing in it then that makes you (the actor I mean) the biggest liar that cannot be trusted at all, on or off stage!!!

idolatry is the worst sin . .... it should be condemned when u see it .
No its not for you or anyone else to condemn it.... only God knows what is in a persons heart and what you call idolatry may not be idolatry in the eyes of God.

Looks are not everything in acting. Do you know Dubey (spelling?), the wedding-decoration guy in "Monsoon Wedding"? He was hardly heard of before that movie but after the movie came out he became a star
I am not saying that Dubey is bad looking. Not at all. I mean you can start small and then suddenly (over night) you become a hit!
