STOCKHOLM, Sweden -- A shocking new report reveals that a large portion of the world's population is secretly sporting tails!
"It's Earth's dirty little secret. Of the 6 billion beings on this planet, nearly 12 million people were born with tails," says a prominent biologist and neonatologist who asked to be called "Dr. X" because he is so embarrassed by the two-foot tail that juts out from his own behind.
Dr. X says that mankind's "missing link" to a primate past has been hanging from our rear ends for centuries.
"No one wants to come out and admit that tails are as common as they are," says Dr. X, who has conducted a 14-year study on what the medical world regards as a quirky birth defect.
"Once it was regarded as a sign of the devil; something too bizarre to allow to exist and many infants throughout the world were put to death after being born with these tails. For others, though, it's become a source of secret pride and they've gone to great lengths to keep the tails hidden."
The doctor traveled worldwide seeking out "Tail Tribes" -- groups of people who still have their tails and associate with others with the same twitchy trait.
"It's basically a secret society. They have parties where they compete with tricks like picking up unusual objects with their tails. But they go to great lengths to conceal their tails from non-tailed humans. There are ways to spot them if you're a careful observer," says Dr. X.
"They shun public showers, swimming and any activity that might give them away. They avoid wearing shorts, as the tail can slip down and the tip can be seen poking out the pant leg. You can sometimes see small indentations in seat cushions and office chairs if they've been sitting down for any length of time."
News of Dr. X's findings has rocked both the biological as well as religious worlds where any evolutionary link between mankind and monkeys is disputed.
"Why would God give man a tail unless it was the mark of a beast?" declares Rob Hollidoy, a prominent Christian psychologist and family values researcher.
"It's unclean and violates any sense of common decency. It's Satan, not God, who is responsible for this travesty of nature."
Hollidoy feels strongly that any person with a tail should have the appendage amputated.
