Peace brothers (I sincerely hope no sisters respond to this post wink )

Just one of the general chit chat threads. So how many of us still have beards? I used to find it quite hard trying to shave when I started off becuase of the guilty feeling every sunday morning. I don't have beard at the moment, but some day I might grow a french cut... lol

Respond if you want, no probs if you don't. )

      Peace,

I have a little stubble, but shave it when it makes me look scruffy. Shaving is very annoying but it's gotta be done!

          lol Feshari.

Does anyone use a machine? Is it true that that makes your beard area on your face go dark or something?

Well, these days with lot of pesticides and other pollutants in our food chain, facial hair growth on girls seems to be becoming a problem... some of my female colleagues talk unshamedly about hot waxing their moustaches... may be I need to find new set of colleagues... -)

As for beard - its woeful. So don't have one. And if you are smoker the danger is you might set fire to yourself ! -) (but I don't smoke and I don't have a beard so I have no problem)

Perhaps you should have a Osma beard - just to be antisocial or rebel or something - perhaps it will be better than joining the student union! and you will have something for the girls to "pull" you with (or perhaps even that will not help you but worth a try! -)

As for girls don't have a beard! -)

              Regards,

                Peace Natu n all,

                Does anyone use a machine?
I don't. I've been meaning to buy one, but I've been using blades for over 18 years now, and never had any problems. So I'm a tad apprehensive to try the machine. A number of people have told it's not as 'close' as the blade. While others claim that it irritates their skin. ?

I also kept a beard (short) for a while, and even made it a 'tradition' to keep one during fasting. But I don't anymore. Everyone said I look much older with a beard. Maybe that's because I am? lol

                Peace!

I'm usually stubbly, and lazy (stubbly and lazy are intrinsically tied together), but funny story Last year me and a pal made a bet as to who could keep their beard growing the longest. It was hell, seriously, it went on for two or three months (honestly I cant remember how long, its all a blur) and my beard got outrageously out of control and insanely itchy (my parents thought I'd joined a religious cult), and in the end we both decided to shave on the same day (he cheated, but anyway...), and the moral of this story is Dont make beard bets!

                      Peace Mehdi,

I dint have one either, but I was just trying to imagine what people like Edip Yuksel would have looked like with a beard (Did he have one?). I just thought that we do have experienced people here who may have been what I like to call 'big time big beards' - I just want to know how they felt, the freedom when the finally decided to shave it off, this can be a big thing for a man, just trying to tap into the emotions here...

I have an obsessive compulsive urge to cut off long beards. And I'm serious.
If I could I'd just walk around chopping them off.

                                    Peace all,

I've used both the machines (high-end Remington, Braun and Remco) and as well as twin-blade Gillette sensor razors for many years. For a better, close and smooth shave, I perfer the razors over machines anytime.

Besides, electric shavers are dry-cut, not wholly close and tend to "greenish" and tarnish the skin, especially when one has a "full shave". With shaving creams available that softens the hair, razors do a much better job, as my own experience validates. I sometimes use electric shavers on long journeys.

                                      Peace,

Not that I need to shave very often...maybe once every 2-3 days, but I use both electric and razors (Mach-3 all the way). Razors give a closer shave, but if I'm feeling lazy, I use electric. I also shave my head, and as an African-American, I have to worry about razor bumps! I usually use a single-blade Bump-Fighter razor on my head and that keeps the bumps away...as long as I shave every other day.

i think i have an idea of what you're talking about the 'freedom of shaving it off' .. i used to have dreadlocks which used to come down well past my waist line for about a good 9-10 years... and after shaving it off... i didn't really feel any more free.. just different...

                                        change is good... )

                                        peace

Having or not having a beard is a matter of taste, I guess. The ticket of heaven does not hang at the end of your beard.

Being South East Asian, I don't have as much facial hair growth as some of you might have, just a tuft of hair on my chin that does not extend to the ears. But I somehow follow the ikhwan fashion of shaving my mustache and keeping a goatee (and trimming it off everytime it grows too long). This is just because I think it suits my appearance better, not from an ideological commitment like my friends do.

Problem is, sometimes I am viewed as a fundamnetalist only because I keep the goatee! Another friend of mine, a sufist, likes to tease me about it, and my parents even advised me to shave it off before I moved abroad because they thought I might pass for a terrorist suspect evil

That said, I myself don't like to judge people by how they choose to look.

Don't worry,as long as it's neat and trim it's ok. But once it starts getting all scraggly, my OCD kicks in.

Nothing is wrong with having a beard, unless you're just growing it because you think it's a ticket to heaven or that it is required by Islam.
