        From bro Ayman's article here

        http//www.free-minds.org/articles/quranic/malak.htm

When we read further in verse 424, it is clear that an important prerequisite for all men who want to marry is that they should be mature/self-protected (?mohsanin?)

?? And beyond that it is permitted for you that you seek (marriage) with your wealth, with self-protection (maturity), and without fornication. So what you enjoyed from them, give them their obligatory rewards, and there is no offense on you in what you mutually agreed on after the obligation, indeed God is knowledgeable, judicious.? (424)

I would like to know the specific age for the following
              what age can one abstain/sawm?
at what age can one enter into a treaty?
at what age can one own a business?
at what age can one fight in a battle?
at what age can one participate in al HJJ / the conference?

The point of the above being perhaps one should ponder upon the validity of stating a specific age before wondering why there is no mention of a specific age.

              Wakas

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

                Salaamun alaikum all,

I think the reason there is no mention of a specific age in the Quran for the various functions is that Allah has given us general guidelines and has left it to the community as a whole to determine the appropriate age. IMO there is no magic number for the age, but any age that satisfies the general criteria qualifies. That age could be different for different communities and cultures.

5104 O you who believe, do not ask about things which, if revealed to you, would harm you; and if you ask about them after the Quran has been sent down, then they will become clear to you. God pardons for them, and God is Forgiving, Compassionate.

Having said that, what is the significance of the age of forty mentioned in the Quran? Is it the age that determines only the spiritual maturity?

4615 And We enjoined the human being to honour his parents. His mother bore him with hardship, gave birth to him in hardship, and his weaning lasts thirty months. Until he has attained his maturity, and reaches forty years, may he say "My Lord, direct me to appreciate the blessings You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and to do righteousness that pleases You. And let my progeny be righteous. I have repented to You; I am of those who have surrendered."

                  salam all.
thank u savage_carrot for the link about Aisha's marriage with Muhammad . aisha's marriage is what made me start this thread . anti- hadithist say that tha hadiths are defaming the prophet by alleging that he married a nine year old girl , and by making him a pedophile . while there is no strict age of marriage .
can this mean that even if aisha was married with muhammad at age 9 , it wasnt a bad thing ?

                    Salaam Saladin,

There is no strict age but you are not heeding other variables that are important. This is why your question "can this mean that even if aisha was married with muhammad at age 9 , it wasnt a bad thing ?" (Saladin) sounds naive.

Why is it a good thing to you?

                    Joe

the point is that there is no age restriction and no prohibition .

a 9 year old getting married does not sound like a good thng to me . like if i have a daughter, i dont want her to get married at age 9 . i think she would not be mature enough . but that would only be my opinion . that does not make it prohibited or bad .

                        Assalaamu alaikum

I agree with savage_carrot. I think normal age for man to become mature for marriage is at an age of 24, of course for some earlier and for some later. But i think some girls get mature for marriage at an age of 18 and of course some later and with the exception of some even earlier. I think some feel they are mature for marriage while persons who know her/him dont agree. Marriage is about aloooot of responsibility.

                          Salaam all,

Well I got married when I was 17 years old and today i think that was too early, I was only a kid with no education and no job.

The maturity for girls are often earlier than for boys but a nine year old girl is a kid and haven't finished school yet.

And how can you feel sexual attraction to a kid!? Then you might be a pedophile.

But I do agree with Wakas that you must have reach an level for understand religious needs.

                          Peace Majidah
