Salaamun Alaikum,
Dear brothers and sisters in Islam,I was reading the other posts regarding "Muhthanaat". So, thought of starting a new thread.
The problem I found is the mistranslation of the word "Muhthanaatu" in most of the verses.
Muhthanaatu means "Protected/in protection"
"And Marium, the daughter of Imran, who protected (ahthanat) her chastity. So We blew into her from Our spirit, and she believed in the words of her Lord and His Scripture; and she was of those who were obedient." 6612
"And We taught him the making of armour for you to protect (lituhthinakum) you from your enemy. Are you then thankful?" 2180
"And the protected (muhthanaatu) from the women, except those who become widowed(?); Allah's scripture is over you; and permitted for you is what is beyond this, if you are seeking with your money to be protected (muhthineena) and not for illicit sex. As for those whom you have already had joy with them, then you shall give them their wage as an obligation. There is no sin upon you for what you agree to after the obligation. Allah is Knowledgeable, Wise." 424
"And whoever of you cannot afford to marry the believing protected (almuhthanaati) women, then from the still dependant believing young women. Allah is more aware of your faith, some of you to each other. You shall marry them with the permission of their parents and give them their wage in kindness; to be protected (muhthanaatin), not for illicit sex or taking lovers. If they become protected (uhthinna), then any of them who comes with lewdness shall have half the punishment of what is for the protected (almuhthanaati) women of the retribution. This is for those who fear hardship from among you. But if you are patient it is better for you, and Allah is Forgiver, Merciful." 425
"And those who accuse the protected (almuhthanaati) women and they do not bring forth four witnesses, then you shall lash them eighty lashes and do not ever accept their testimony. Those indeed are the evildoers." 244
What I understand here is either protected by themselves or by the guardians or by husband.
