is there any verse in al-qoran that says that al-salat is meant to be something done 'daily', in clear terms?
What is a day or daily to you? What does a day consist of?

What does the "two ends of the day and at the approaches of the night" mean to you? Which day and which night?
What does the " before the rising of the sun, and before its setting" mean to you?
What does the " for part of the hours of the night, and at the sides of the day" mean?
Which day and which night? Does the Ayat here set a specific date?To me those words mean every day and every night. As long as there is a day and there is a night. Salat looks like an ongoing matter, as the rolling of the day and night, as long as the person is witnessing the day and the night, till the end of one's life!

the verse might be translated or understood differently----as not something that is to be done daily....theres nothing in the verse that makes it daily practice....
I certainly agree. Though daily it almost certainly is for all its intent.

I cannot really see a verse that prescribes a daily practice of alsalat. Now of course what one interprets alsalat as which obviously influence their interpretation of whether it is daily or not.
For example, if one believes that alqoran promotes a 'daily prayer', then one will say such-and-such verse means daily. Even if you go to the other end of the spectrum and follow Safar's interpretation of 'commitment', then dailyness will be inferred also.
I cannot see myself a reference to kulla yawmen or every day which I can honesty say is categorical.

.but if we consider the context, something quite different might be infered....marching to fight or fighting and similar ....the salat might reffer to it...the commitment of fighting...that is, it might be translated /understood when the times for fighting come....or at certain point in the lives of the believers there comes the time to fight or there is a time to fight(according to circumstances)....( as i have heard from one arabic speaker it is a valid/possible understanding/translation)

Al Salaat is done at dawn and dusk. There is a verse that says that the dawn reading is witnessed. Further, in the verse regarding private times, it says the private times are before dawn salaat..and after dusk salaat, does that not indicate a practice done TWICE a DAY?
Lets remember that the very first response from those in hell fire is that they did not mainatain the salaat and further that the God says Help comes from patience and "SALAAT".

Yes, but is this daily though dude? I mean, it says dawn and dusk, true, the 2 ends of the day etc. but it doesn't say every day/kulla yawmen does it, that is why I question it...
Also take this into account - right from the go in the first verses of albaqarat, alsalat and alzakat are both mentioned in terms as if they are both practices which are already known and are familiar to the people it is being addressed to, hence the non-existence of an exact definition.

Well, think about it for a moment, if I told you that you should brush your teeth at dawn so that you can purify your teeth, would you question if it should be every morning? Then how much more important is the purification(zakaat) of your spirit(nafs) through the process(salaat)?
Sure, you wont be stuck with bolts of lightining if you do not do it, but you will have more dirt to clean the next morning.

I have just talked to mh and his translation of the key phrase is ?truly the commitment is(kanat) being(mawqootaa) compulsory upon the believers?

I apologize but i am not in a mood for translating the whole passage.. but anybody can insert the idea in any word for word trans. available and figure out for himself if this hold the water or not...
