    Peace,

"The first institution/bayt established for the people is the one in Bakk?a, blessed, and a guidance for the worlds. In it are clear signs, the station of Abraham, and whoever enters it will be secure. And God is owed from mankind to make Pilgrimage to the institution/bayt, whoever can make a path to it. And whoever rejects, then God has no need of the worlds. " (396-97)

God tell us that Abraham established a 'bayt/institution' to invite mankind and share with them about God's new system...This place in the Quran has been called "Bakka".

Do you believe that Bakka is a physical/real place where people once made Pilgrimage to?

If so, where is it located?

Or, do you believe that these words are 'metaphoric' to a frame of mind?

    Layth

      HAJ

Haj derives from h-j, "The wishes". Atleast once in your life time you fulfil "The Wishes" that Allah had instilled in your Hearts, by purifying your hearts free from shirk, the Way on which Ibrahim stood steadfast and thus allowing HIM to Bestow the same upon you. You have perfomed your HAJ, in the Way of Ibrahim! Umra is your efforts in this regard!

What do you make of the verse that tells the people to travel the land so they may see how the previous people were destroyed. Doesn't this mean that the destroyed people of Aad and Lut were not in the same place as the people the Quran is speakingt to?

"And We have sent a messenger to every nation ?You shall serve God and avoid evil.? Some of them were guided by God, and some of them deserved to be misguided. So travel in the land, and see how the punishment was of those who denied." (1636)

          Peace be upon you all

Brother hafeez kazi thanks for your explanation, I've been reflecting about the same question quite months ago.

I'm confident when I think that Prophet Muhammad was from somewhere north of Arabia, I would say the land of Ezion-geber in the Gulf of Aqaba. That was one station of the major highway going north to Syria and it travels across the land of Edom, Petra as well, continue at south and east of the Dead Sea (where Sodom and Gomorra are supposed to be) etc. But it could be anywhere around there.

EDIT I used to deffend Jerusalem as the City of Peace and the House but now I think I was wrong. I deffend that is Shechem and not Jerusalem the place to gather. Jerusalem was not an important city until the jews came back from Babilonia. There are no arqueological evidences that once there was an ancient Temple for God there before their exile. So i've changed my mind.

Actually is quite interesting that Gerizim is called by the arab-speakers who dwell there "Jebel At-tur".

If i'm not mistaken, Jebel and Tur means the same thing. Mount or Mountain. It seams to me that they're emphasizing this Mountain with this name. What do u think???

          I'll appreciate your comment,

          Peace.
