Khi- Salam. The Arabic word in Quran which u mean is "ribb'a" or "sood" in Urdu. Sood/ribba does NOT mean 'interest'. It means 'usury' n theres a GREAT DIFFERENCE btw 'usury' n 'interest'. zameen aur asmaan ka faraq he bhai 'sood' or 'munfa' mein. 'interest' ka urdu mein tarjumma 'sood' nahin balke 'munafa' he. sood/ribba in my understanding from Quran is any illegal large amount taken, by misusing the other pesons needs. This is NOT restricted 2 loans only. For example if my grocery shop is the only one open at night n i start selling bread 4 twice or more the amount it is generally sold tht will fall under the category ribba/sood. Im thereby taking advantage of another person's need. Normal bank interest cannot be considered sood/ribba. It is 'munafa' or 'profit'. There have been many debates on this. No doubt ribba/sood is forbidden by GOD but it's definiton remains highly controversial. GOD Bless!

          peace,

The occurrences of riba/sood (Root Ra-Ba-Waw) and its meaning can be studied in 'al quran' rather easily these days. Here is the information

          From the topical index

          Usury 3039

          • and hoarding (withholding) money meant for charity 934
            o punishment for 934-35,
          • delay repayment (forgiving debt is better) 2280
o forgo repayment owed you 2278
          • don't "devour" each others possessions 2188, 429
          • forbidden 2275, 3130
          • forgive debt 2280
          • Jews took it even though forbidden to 4161
          • many Monks and Rabbis indulged in 943

          From PRL

          = Ra-Ba-Waw = it increased/augmented, the practicing/taking of usury, excess/addition, become high/grown up/large/swollen/risen/out of breath.

I have a credit card that charges interest, but I pay it off before interest gets charged so it doesn't effect me. Perhaps you could adopt this approach.

I dont advise debt, as I like to say "debt is modern day slavery"

          Wakas

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

              Ask yourself
Why a bank should extend you credit to do your business without any return on it?
Is bank forcing you to use its credit card or you are getting this as a facility/service?
Why God has commanded us not to consume riba in the Quran and not stopped us to pay it? Does that mean paying riba is acceptable if you are forced to pay it?
Most importantly is riba=interest? My humble understanding from studying AL-Quran so far is that riba is not modern day interest.
