making sense of heaven/hell
-
Peace everyone,
I think I have finally figured out where LT is from !! (nothing to do with heaven or hell though ) )
LT is almost certainly British, with an Indian background. Daffodils, chap, exorbitant cost.....were the key words ! )
-
I always knew you were a woman...... I was shocked shock that LT did not catch on as he has the best record around here of discerning men and women from their writings ! I guess he might have forgotten to meditate on that one !! trance
I am afraid it is my fault. I only read systalls posts on meditations threads and not any of her other earlier posts. So you can say I was bit hasty labelling her as a man -)
But yes, she did ruin my Theory of being able to tell the gender of the person on their style of writing -(
but no worries -)Regards,
-
Peace tanveer.
lol I was hiding in plain sight!
It's probably just a matter of hitting the right post at the right time. I'm not entirely sure, but I think, at one time or another, zenje, idolfree and mquran have all referred to me as "sister."
There were a couple of threads, where you and I were in agreement on so many things, I got the idea that some people thought you and I might be the same person posting under two different names. shock
As for my own misconceptions about other posters...maybe I should talk this over with shams' girlfriend. D I'll pull her out of my imagination and see what she has to say.

Peace everyone,
I think I have finally figured out where LT is from !! (nothing to do with heaven or hell though ) )Oh thats a relief!!! -)
LT is almost certainly British, with an Indian background. Daffodils, chap, exorbitant cost.....were the key words ! )
But we all love daffodils don't we? I could be living in Holland with Tulips and Daffodils fields, and exorbitant cost? I could be living in Israel or something and chap is common word in the English speaking world and easily picked up if you watch a lot of British movies... -) -)
I am not what I seem.
Seeming is but a garment I wear
A care-woven garment that protects me
from thy questionings
and thee from my negligence. The "I" in me,
dwells in the house of silence,
and therein it shall remain for ever more,
unperceived...
-Khalil Gibran -
We are no other than a moving row
Of Magic Shadow-shapes that come and go
Round with the Sun-illumined Lantern held
In Midnight by the Master of the Show; The Ball no question makes of Ayes and Noes,
But Here or There as strikes the Player goes;
And He that toss'd you down into the Field,
He knows about it all--He knows--HE knows! The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on nor all your Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all your Tears wash out a Word of it.-)

Hello Everyone,
http//www.free-minds.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3690&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0&sid=7cb7dca60b53bddb776e3842f2ab7b09
Just to let you know that I had doubts about Systalls being man or women much earlier!!!
so now I might able to salvage my Theory!!! -)
perhaps!!! -)Regards,
-
Peace.
With every theory, there's always got to be a little uncertanty. So you simply hadn't had time to complete a full analysis, LT. lol
Maybe it's time to use one of FM's stock avatars...like this one

Nice picture. But we will miss out on all the fun of trying to figure out who is a lad and who is a lassie? -)

Peace sytalls,
There were a couple of threads, where you and I were in agreement on so many things, I got the idea that some people thought you and I might be the same person posting under two different names.
Aren't we? You should not be giving away this secret !! shock
Juss kiddin wink
It does appear that we share similar views on a lot of subjects and find ourselves on the same side of the court. I tend to agree with almost all your posts; maybe that is why we have not locked horns in a debate with each other yet !
I find myself neglecting to use the right side of my brain a little nowadays ! You, however, exercise both sides of your brain (as is apparent from your posts ranging from the scientific to the poetic). You have a very good writing style and I always look forward to reading your posts.
As for my own misconceptions about other posters...maybe I should talk this over with shams' girlfriend. I'll pull her out of my imagination and see what she has to say.
It was uncanny how we both had the same misunderstanding. I haven't heard from Shams in a while. Maybe he has found a girlfriend now and has been busy !! wink If that is the case you might not have to pull her out of your imagination.
Juss kiddin Shams !!

Peace all.
Peace tanveer.
lol I've blown our cover, haven't I?
Thank you for what you said about my writing style, and I definitely return the compliment.
There have been numerous times when I saw something and started to post, but you usually had already answered in the same way I would have. Well, actually in a better way, since you do an excellent job of citing relevant passages from the Quran.
Often I'm uncertain about doing that, because people here have a far better understanding of the subtle meanings of certain words or phrases than I do. Having been alone with only a Yusuf Ali translation for years, I'm scrambling to make up for gaps in knowledge. In combination with studying the links people have given me for concordances and different translations, the discussions here about specific words and nuances of phrasing have been a wonderful help.

Peace icipchren. I had a thought on why shirk is the sin which is not 'neutralised' if continued. What if shirk is the rejection of 'doing what you know is good'.

Peace Sytalls,
Thanks for the info and the references. I will be back later with some more questions for you. In the meantime, you don't need cable to watch the program...

Wow just finished watching this. It's like the more we think we got answers to questions we end up having to answer more questions lol
Love the part about multi dimensional space and wormholes
If anyone knows a website or videos about further stuff like this please post.
PEACE

G'day and Peace,
The answers to your original four questions can be found in the Quran. I shall attempt to answer 3 & 4 because they make up the bulk of your earlier discussion.
- Is hell literally fire?
Many of the descriptions in the Quran are allegorical, i.e. not literal. The Quran says this explicitly;
"He sent down to you this scripture, containing straightforward verses - which constitute the essence of the scripture - as well as multiple-meaning or allegorical verses..." 37
There are numerous verses giving allegorical descriptions of heaven. Here is one;
"The allegory of Paradise that is promised for the righteous is this it has rivers of unpolluted water, and rivers of fresh milk, and rivers of wine - delicious for the drinkers - and rivers of strained honey. They have all kinds of fruits therein, and forgiveness from their Lord. (Are they better) or those who abide forever in the hellfire, and drink hellish water that tears up their intestines?" 4715
Given that hell is mentioned right along with the allegorical descriptions of heaven, we should assume that they are also allegorical.
- How do we know that heaven and hell are real destinations?
They are real destinations because we are told over and over that that is where we are 'destined'. (1797) As you said yourself, we either die and their is nothing, or we die and there is something afterwards. I think what you may really be asking here is, what is the nature of these destinations, physical or spiritual?
I am of the opinion that heaven and hell are physical realms, though not necessarily made of the same physical materials that we know of in our universe. The reason for my opinion has mainly to do with verse 704; "The angels, with their reports, climb to Him in a day that equals fifty thousand years." This suggests a real distance in physical terms.
Whether there is physical suffering in addition to spiritual suffering in hell, I am unsure of. However, it would appear that spiritual suffering is definately on the cards.
