      Salam Zlatan, all,

A very good article! thank you for sharing the link. There is one part in it that I pasted below and that really has been running in my mind for many years now. Indeed, I always felt that the exisiting tax system is all unfair to my case and status so I started thinking because of this unfaireness, do I have the right to violate it from the Quran perspective but then I couldn't find anyting in Quran to support my thinking, beside the fact that maybe it is a duty upon me to benefit others trough all the taxes they take from me. As my salary is high and with my status of single, the governemnt hits me with a hammer every year and I don't get anything back so basically I work for taxes-) I found it so hard to swallow that I thought maybe instead of killing myself with work, I will just opt for a much lower salary and less hassle but then Quran stresses again the collective help and therefore tax can be perceived as contributing to a collective effort to benefit some in the community.

Can the "unfaireness" issue of the tax system be justified in the light of the Quran? Without going into details, what is your understanding of the tax system in Quran if there is any?
Many thanks in advance for your input.
      Peace. Myr.

        Peace Guest!

        nice to hear from you...

I think there is a big problem in considering tax money as helping or contributing to others?..

First there is a moral problem with it ?.and at the other hand, i think that existing of tax is hardly economicaly justifiable as well?

Its because tax money is payed under coercion and its hard to regard anything obtained through coercion as a good deed?act must be voluntary in order to regard it as good , charity or contribution??..

moreover..tax money is mostly spend on coercion of others and feeding of a bureaucratic apparatus and tyrrany over others?financing wars?imperialism, teryfying, killing and terrorizing of others?and maybe most importantly, for indoctrination through bureocratic education!

Tax money also have a tendency to be squandered on self serving purposes while capital which is left to one who originally has earned it, tend to be spend much much carefully and without sqandering?also , generally, the capital in the hands of the enterpreneuer, the one who produced it in the first place, tends to fertilize?while the case with tax money is not such..?. tax money feeds the parasitic bureaucratic apparatus and its economy-paralysing and liberty ? paralysing legislation?..

Also, tax money in Democracy(I guess you live under a democratic regime?) helps politicians to buy votes and ensure privilegies to their prot?g?s, and to corrupt society by promoting the situation of anyone?s property and life not being safe of appropriation or redistribution through outvoting or legislation which is accepted no matter how ill or arbitrary, in the case if it has the mayority?.?.tax money promotes living on a welfare and being dependent of others and particularly of the State ?the most ?cold-blooded of all the monsters?(I think its Niche).

        Best wishes,
        Zlatan

          Peace,

I disagree with the issue of tax, it helps us here in the UK, just because people don't agree with the current policies of the parties in governement does not change the role tax plays in society, everyone who can contributes, the richer contribute more, ideally. It is not by force, if you don't wish to pay you can leave.

Tax goes towards helping those in need aswell as providing facilites for education, health etc. If there is no tax who will build the weapons? Who will fund research? Do you have better alternatives? if there is no tax who will help those in need (unemployed people), just because there are societies who promote helping each other doesn't mean its wrong. There are British people who willingly, happily pay tax, just because that number is decreasing, it does not mean that it was a bad idea it just means that the people are changing their views or are unhappy about something or they don't know where there money is going. Ideally this system helps us and I don't see the problem, it has worked in the past and continues to work today, if the system is abused then there is a problem.

Maybe when the idea was used successfully communities were closer and understood more, and they weren't conned by crazy politicians!

When you talk about quran, I don't get your point because God grants prophets/kings lots of power and authority over people, if that is mentioned I don't see the problem here, I only see a problem when the ones in these positions of authority abuse their powers.

The power to tax CAN destroy but it won't always destroy, maybe eventually in a cyclic manner because there is always a chance that crazy politicians gain power but when there are responsible rulers then I don't see the issue.

I Agree with Nural. I had three operations. And all was paid by the NHS . Not even a penny from me. This is becoz i was paying taxes. UK is the best damn country to be in. The only country that supercedes UK is UAE. UAE is DA country in the world.

              Salaam,

I prefer a system of welfare that is not concentrated in the hands of a few such as the government where we have limited knowledge on where the money goes. Perhaps, it goes to good things as NHS but perhaps it goes to many terrible things too. This is not particular to UK but a worldwide phenonemon.

Also if Jaxals pound in his pocket was worth what it was 10-20 yrs ago, and he was not so severly taxed maybe he could pay for the operation himself or those around him could help. After all who made his money worth less but the government?

I just don't believe how the humanity of government is a substitute to the humanity of populace. Maybe, its too late for this as we have gotten use to the welfare state.

With taxation I think we're merely enslaving ourselves to a few as in the example of Pharaoh and his esoteric society of priests. People in government are human after all and their incentives are to stay there, hence why cede more power to a power that corrupts?

              In my opinion...
