Why people defend Democracy while it oppresses them?
-
I think that people of democraties and many other statists? systems are massive victims of The Stockholm`s Syndrome- ?an emotional attachment, a bond of interdependence between captive and captor that develops when someone threatens your life, deliberates, and doesn't kill you.?
?Long term captivity builds even stronger attachment to the captor as he becomes known as a human being with his own problems and aspirations. Particularly in political or ideological situations, longer captivity also allows the captive to become familiar with the captor's point of view and the history of his grievances......(cut). He may come to believe that the captor's position is just. ?Try the link where i have found these excerpts .. i find it extremely interesting/insightful?.

some excerpts from it defining the syndrome
?the behavior of kidnap victims who, over time, become sympathetic to their captors.?
?Small acts of kindness by the captor are magnified, since finding perspective in a hostage situation is by definition impossible. Rescue attempts are also seen as a threat, since it's likely the captive would be injured during such attempts.?
?It's important to note that these symptoms occur under tremendous emotional and often physical duress? -
What do you propose to replace democracy, bro Zlatan? Would it be anarchy or oligarchy or dictatorship?
I'm not against any of those, btw. All have their own advantages, and as long as it can keep people prosperous and satisfied, I think it's okay.
Like what Deng Xiaoping said, something along the lines of "It does not matter what colour the cat is, what's important is whether it can catch mice or not."

Hello Zlatan,
You still "crapping-on" about Democracy?
Now you invent an illness!!! You are very paranoid aren't you? Keep taking those blue and red pills as the doctors prescribed !!!
just kidding -)Here is my assesment of people who desire dictatorship. I call it "Submissive-Adolescent-Father-Figure-Complex". These people are indeed adolsecent in age, if not in mind. They crave for that father figure of the their childhood and the "absent" Father-Figure in their teenage life, to protect them from playgound bullies, to tell them bedside stories of princes and elves and happy endings where everything is ok and that world is ok.
These people also tend to be submissive because they want to abdicate their responsibility to the "Father-Figure", so that they can live like sheeps in the "Dictatorship-Wonderland", baa baaing to whims of the dictator calling him the "Man of Steel", "The Great Leader", "The Father of the Nation" (and Mother of the Nation too -)) because they are too afraid to take responsibility for themselves, they are too cowardly to be responsible for themselves, that is why, like little adolescent they blame others for their own misery and failure. The misery and failure they themselves perpetuate by abdicating their responsibility to the Dictator. Baa Baa Baa -)
But here's my banner to you
"WHY DO PEOPLE SUPPORT DICTATORSHIP WHEN DICTATORS TORTURES, MAIMES AND KILLS HIS OWN PEOPLE AT DICTATORS WHIM!!! -( "
Democracy is not perfect Zlatan as I said many times before!!!
Democracy is goverments by the People for the People. But generally Democracy is elected Dictatorship. Democracy is Tyranny of the Majority on the Minority. Democracy is not Utopia. Democracy is the best of the worst types of Government. But the one good thing about a Elected Dictatorship is that there is possibility of removing them from their job by peaceful means.Although Democracy is best of the worst types of governments, it has been very successful in delivering economic prosperity and personal liberty to the individuals. And those have adopted democracy and principles of liberty, like defeated nation Japan have achieved spectacular results. But it is true also that economic prosperity in itself is not good indicator of good government, but democracy does give personal liberty and freedom of thought to the individual as opposed to dictatorship where you could have your head chopped off for speaking your mind! Having lived under a oppressive government I prefer any form of "democracy" than anything else.

It is possible to have a benevolent oligarchy/dictatorship.
It is possible to have a perfect democracy.
It is even possible to have an enjoyable anarchy! (granted, this requires all participants to have perfect responsibility and self-control).

It is possible to have a benevolent oligarchy/dictatorship.
Yes, Plato also wrote about Benevolent Dictatorship 2000 years ago, when he envisages societies ruled by "Philosopher-Kings" in his work "The Republic". I like the idea of being ruled by "Philosopher-Kings" but I also think this type society will stagnate easily since there will be no influx of new blood and talent in the government...
It is possible to have a perfect democracy.
I reserve my judgement on that -)
I prefer to see democracy as flawed as human beings are flawed. Perhaps it's very imperfections makes democracy little bit more appealing, just as we find little imperfections in others just as interesting... -)It is even possible to have an enjoyable anarchy! (granted, this requires all participants to have perfect responsibility and self-control).
I can't see that at all unless we are all enlightened Buddhas and can live an ego-less existence... -)
