i believe lying is ok in some circumstances, such as when you're sparing someone's feelings. If the harm in lying significantly overrides the good, then perhaps it is justified to lie. say you and parents have differing views on an issue. if you tell them the truth, they would flip. if you don't then you're lying to protect your relationship, but then you live with guilt of lying. is this a justified lie? what if its a lie about a religious issue? if you lie about what you're doing, not necessarily what you believe, is that being a hippocrite? what if the disagreement has more to do with how conservative one party is verses another, rather than a disagreement on principles?

There is no justificaltion for lieing. None in the Quran. If ur parents had different views, say for example, on arrange marriage. And you had a different view on it. Then yes , you should tell them this view. Maybe they will flip but atleast they know the truth now.

My parents wanted my to go into arrange marriage. I told them the truth about it. Yes they flipped over and everything. But atleast now they know what i feel about it and wont do it again. )

Is lying permissable as a part of strategy in war?

          Peace guys,

Is lying permissable as a part of strategy in war?

This is something I've been wondering about, as deceit can be a wonderful tool in warefare, as can espionage, both things which are frowned upon in terms of the quran.

          ? ?

Is lying permissable as a part of strategy in war?

That woud be devastating. I bleive, lying can be justified under specific umbrella and within reason. What say you, my friend?

As the saying goes "Everything is fair in love and war". I believe one can use depection in war. But not as a lie but rather more of a strategy. In my opinion, the general or commander will have to take precaution to make sure that his/her side wins the war and if that means using deception, then so be it. If i was raging a war, i would decite my enemy. Killing is allowed in war but not outside war. I guess, in war rules change. Even salat. Hmmm

I say you are correct, good brother. The two cardinal strategies of war, are deception and surprise. Btw, is justified and permissable equivalent concepts/terms in regard to war and lying?

                    Peace all,

864 And if they wish to deceive you, then God is sufficient for you. He is the One who supported you with His victory and with the believers.

According to this sign, The God promises to protect and support the believers from deception in war, but does not seem to allow deception in return.

It doesn't specifically say that it's wrong to deceive in war though.

As for the whole lie issue, my own take is I try to tell the truth everytime. I'm not considerate in terms of other people's feelings.

This got me into trouble more times than I imagine. For some reason people would prefer to lie and/or sugarcoat their sayings instead of telling the truth.

Maybe the choice is between lying and silence for some people?

4913 O you who believe, you shall avoid much suspicion, for some suspicion is sinful. And do not spy on one another, nor shall you backbite one another. Would one of you enjoy eating the flesh of his dead brother? You certainly would hate this. You shall observe God. God is Redeemer, Merciful.

As I implied, im not very sure on this one ?

                            Peace be upon you,

                            (371) You, The Book's people, why do you confuse/mix/cover/dress the correct/truth with the falsehood and you hide/conceal the correct/truth and you are knowing?

                            (242) And do not confuse/mix/cover the correct/truth with the falsehood, and you hide/conceal the correct/truth and you are knowing.

In a forum about Peacefulness(Islam), why is there so much concern with "war strategy"?

It also promises victory... And since Muslims are never victorious in war, this means that verse is a false statement .....

                              ....

                                Peace be upon you,

The word muslim describes one who is peaceful, so I am not sure which War involves "muslims". It is the religionists like the crusading christians who enjoy war so much. Once we free our minds of these religious dividing mindsets, then we can be more like YOUR beloved savior is said to have been.

I saw a good sign amongst the protestors outside of George Bush's home, it said "Who would Jesus Bomb?"

                                You get it?

The ayat qualifies suspicion and spying, meaning, if the translation is correct that, some spying/suspicion is justified. Also, the ayat is directed toward believers and not humanity at large.

And with respect to the initial question...

If a person gave you an ultimatum and said you must say you are wearing a blue top (even though you are really wearing a red top), i.e. say a lie, or they will murder the person next to you... what would you do?

The God knows what is in the hearts.

                                          ....

It could also mean the other way around, i.e. Muslims are not what they claim to be.
