Also, if its not available on the net, I can get it scanned, if its out of copyright. Is it in copyright?
Do the following sites contain Lisan al-Arab online?
http//dictionary.sakhr.com/CD Rom?
http//www.muhaddith.org/lexicons.htmlWakas
Peace Wakas!
I am not sure for the first site but if i recall well, they do offer lisanal arab for download at the second .. they also, if i am not mistaken, have an explanation/understanding of copyright, or have based their understanding on the scholar(s)? opinon, that significant islamic works can not be copyrighted etc.. and must be shared?
p.s. if Lisanal al arab is copyrighted at all ? i dont know?
Best wishes

Peace
I am interested in buying Lisan Al-Arab, although I want to wait to see if Br. mq wants it. I am gradually learning Arabic, thus I may need it in the future.
WakasThen, tell me Wakas are you also interested in that extra large arabic grammar book in english(eight/seven volumes) you have bought for me last year?
If i recall well i got it (secondhand)for ?100 ? if you buy it from me for ? 95 you?d get my Hans Wehr dictionary for free(of course if you need it at all) )
That grammar book if i recall well is actually a translation of the several(four i think) greatest gramarrians gramars? books. Its in the same good condition when you have sent it to me?the only defect could be that strange smell ( i wonder have you noticed it) that it has picked up somewhere where it was laying stored?.probably in some dusty bookstore?its not the common smell of dust? at least not in my country?.but maybe it is in India where, i think, it came from?. it has some strange aroma?
Besides, Hans Wehr is an excellent dic of modern Arabic and its very systematic and useful as a quick reference in studying modern Arabic and Arabic-Arabic dictionaries?

Peace bro Wakas,
I found this site some time back...it lists lisan al arab here as part of an online library. I doubt it's under copyright.
http//www.uga.edu/islam/Arabic.html
Online Arabic Books or Downloadable Arabic Books
Al-Waraq On-line Library of Classical Arabic Texts Containing over a million pages in Arabic organized in the following categories Adab, History, Ansab, Geography and Travelogues, Hadith, Tarajim, Philosophy and Logic, 'Ulum al-qur'an, 'Ulum al-lugha, 'Aqida, Medicine, Interpretation of Dreams, Sufism, Bibliography, and Miscellaneous sciences. Among its dictionaries are the two most comprehensive Arabic-Arabic dictionaries
Lisan al-'Arab of Ibn Manzur.
Taj al-'Arus of Zabidi.
It also contains the Qut al-qulub of Abu Talib al-Makki, an important early Sufi compendiumBesides, I think Lisan is quite ancient by now isn't it? That puts it in the same category as Lane's, and it's way older than Lanes. Shakespeare's works too have no copyright.

Peace Wakas
peace Zlatan,
Do you (or anyone) know if Lisan Al-Arab is in copyright?
(if it is, it should say this on the cover or opening pages)Thanks,
Wakas
i havent noticed the specific R or similar mark at the opening or cover pages, however maybe that sign is different for arabic books?
p.s. and my arabic skils are far from being able to easily read the pages to check if it says it is copyrighted

peace Nadia, Zlatan,
I was aware of it being very old, thus I knew the content/work would be out of copyright but it also depends on the publisher if they have changed the original layout and thus own copyright of the layout making it un-scanable.
If its available online, then for me, there is no point in buying it, thus I'll have to pass on the offer at the moment Br. Zlatan. Thanks anyway.

peace all,
I still have the 8 volumes of Lane's Lexicon stored in a box if anyone in the UK wants them for free.
The pages are unbound, but in order. The pages being unbound is actually quite good, cause that way, you can write notes in-between pages in a folder for example.
If you want it, all I require is that you promise to use it. I do not want it going to anyone who will not make use of it.
