Cheap Lane's Lexicon

I was wondering if anyone out there knew where I could get a cheap Lane's Lexicon from.
In the UK it seemed to be advertised for about ?500. Amazon.com is about $250.
I had a card from some Singapore sunni bookshop (they take online orders and deliver internationally), which I suspect may be cheaper (they do international delivery - I am based in UK). However the card may be lost!

I made a mistake on the above thread though. I was led to believe the price shown on the website included postage but it doesn't. I ordered one from there, and it cost about ?170 including delivery. Still cheapest I've seen though.

Many thanks for the reply. I would prefer a physical book (I get tired if I sit in front of a computer for too long). I also think it would be a bit 'deep-pocketed' of me if I allowed you to give me your one for free. Anyway what I am going to do is to search for the business card of the shop in singapore and try to obtain a quotation. If this is unsuccessful, I will then probably try that website which you informed me of.

i got the CD which Waqas mentioned but it doesn't work on my computer and the back up service from the company - i found wasn't very good .may be its just my comp.
so the hrd copy is the best for me.

The thing is bro, I dont use it. The only reason I bought it was I needed a physical book so I could get it scanned and put online. After which I will have no use for it. You can pay for the P&P if you want. If not, its cool.
The reason I dont use it is I have the CD-Rom version and I can look up a root in 2 seconds with that, and its more suited to the way I work, i.e. I interrogate translations pretty savagely with mass cross-referencing and you cant do that so easily without a PC in front of you.

Thanks for the offer. It is/was really generous of you. However, I will go and buy it myself thanks, probably from the site you recommended or from Singapore. Currently I have a sunni dictionary I bought from Amazon.com by some guy called brother Omar (something like that). It is interesting that despite his sunni biases higher up on the translations the true meaning of the word is revealed slightly further down (I have a hypothesis that translators of the Quran don't have the integrity to translate God's word).
By the way, I had not been to free-minds.org for sometime (about 2 months) and was completely unaware of your brilliant idea of making Lane's Lexicon available to all. This is good news for all students of the Quran. Thank-you for that. Is the donor line for that shut now?

Its in an excellent condition ?.i used it only a a little? i actually bought it last year?Wakas, I think, saw the copy when it was new??he is the one who actually made the transaction, after i had sent the money to him since i posses no card?.i am ready to go below the lowest price you find?

Well , first i need the money?.however it seems to me that?s only at the surface? more profound reasons could be that I become somehow disinterested in its study?first i have lost my interest in learning the classical Arabic in detail?or Quranic Arabic?.that could be due to the fact that i become overwhelmed with the task?.maybe i haven?t been patient enough? another fact ?I have lost my faith in importance of the learning of the language?. it could be due to the fact that I have lost my faith in the divinity of the Quran? and that i have lost the faith that its message, in all of its detail, is intended to be the guidance to the mankind beyond the original recipients?if, the book and all these details were indeed revealed at all??

p.s. i also posses a beautiful copy of Lisanul Arab?considered by many as one of the few major works in the field?. i would like to offer it to anyone interested in buying it at a lower price than he can find anywhere at the net??i have bought it as a secondhand copy however its in a so good condition that it would be hardly exaggeration if i describe it better than a new ??it?s a red ink edition?.where the words of the root under the question are red inked ? and that make its study a lot quicker and easier?

Zlatan, how much is your lisaanul arabiy going for ? And if you prefer we can swap books. Since you've lost your faith, I can send you books in exchange for lisanul arabi as well. I got almost new copies of portable Neitzche, Marx. Also an introduction to Heidegger (whose concept of god I intuit will really echo your thoughts as he dealt with the 'science of interpretation'). I have lots of other stuff which I'd be happy to trade with you as well if you like. Let me know, please.

No can do. I have almost 5000 books (most of which come from car-boot sales). Organising and database-ing them would take months. Do find out the price if you like and I'll see if I can afford it. Thanks.

You need to find the ISBN number for the book. Then from that, you can search the bookdatabse like Amazon.com using that ISBN number.

To be honest, that is a bit too much for me to pay right now. But i am very very interested in buying it. Will it be possible for you to take a small snapshot of one of the page so i can see it? I heard it that Lisanul Arab is in URdu. If That is true, then i am going to have problems. I can read arabic better than urdu ( its shamful i know ( ) . IF not a snapshot, can you just tell how it is laid out? which is usually like
root (in arabic / english ) , meaning ( in arabic / english ), other info ( in arabic / English like nouns, plural form , adjective and example of the word in sentences)

Its an arabic-arabic dictionary?it definitely is not in urdu?all the explanations are in Arabic??.and it usually has very detail explanation for the roots and its various derivatives?. it usually lists several forms and debates its various usages, cites different grammarians, sholars and similar, cites examples from Quran, poetry, Hadith; and similar stuff.?as for the snapshot ill maybe send you one tomorrow, when i ll have a better light in the room?however i am not sure of quality of the snapshot cause i only have a web camera and it surely isn?t one of the best types?
You have said you are interested but you have not the money now ?tell me, if i am not too intrusive, when is that time when ,you hope, you ll have the money?

arabic - arabic, absolutely brilliant. As far as when i will have the 75 pounds. I am not sure ( . I had an accident with a rig which has completely destroyed my front end of my Honda and the front and back pasenger door. That will be about 1000 pounds. Then i have to sort my insurance out and other fees. Then i have to pay for the university. So as you can see it wont be soon. Damit . I really wanted this book . I couldnt find it on any bookstore either. To be honest brother i dont know. It wont be soon. So brother, if you find another buyer, plz sell it to him/her. Inshallah by the time i get the money and if you still have this book, i will email you then and there.
