    Peace,

what do you think of quoting verses of the book to suggest that others are rejecters, unbelievers, wicked or any other negative adjective? Other verses or even the same can be quoted back, thus, I don't think using them as a means of contending against another is one purpose of it.

Forgive Tanveer for choosing your post as example, it is that I read it today. (If I misunderstood, then, I said nothing)
The good thing is that it is happening less and less in the forum.

I think many times that I don't have any right to comment things about the quran, islam or you the members when I was not in the same situations you have been. Thanks for bearing me so well for so long. |

    From 'Is swine halal' thread
    Peace all,

When confronted with a logical and reasonable argument to which PB has no response/refutation, he comes up with the following

Ahh, more sleight of hand and canards, Tanveer.
    (Sept 15, 2005 245 pm)

Your analysis is a canard and sleight of hand.
    (Sept 11, 2005, 310 am)

This response is eerily similar to the response of the disbelievers/rejecters when confronted with the clear revelations

467 And when Our clear revelations are recited to them, those who rejected said of the truth that came to them "This is evidently magic!"

3444 And when Our clear revelations were recited to them, they said "This is but a man who wants to turn you away from what your parents were worshiping." And they also said "This is nothing but a fabricated lie." And those who disbelieved say of the truth when it has come to them "This is nothing but evident magic!"

I can see how 467 is applicable, but less so for 3444.

I dont mind the practice you speak of, if its on the odd occassion.

If I step out of line I would want one of my brothers/sisters to give me a reminder.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

        SaLaM Elena

I was just quoting a friend of mine verses from the Quran on how she was a disbeleiver. But with her and me, we really know each other. So she didnt mind much. Altho she was very mad with me. But if someone is a disbeliever, then you can confirm this by giving them a verse from the Quran.

          Salaamun alaikum Elena,

You have shown more interest in al-quraan than many, many Sunnis whom I know. Please do not deprecate yourself in this way. All of us have a right to study and analyse the Quran as equals.

As for calling people 'kafir', sura 107 say to call to the disbelievers (o al-kafiroon). But it identifies WHO are al-kafiroon are. There are those who do not serve as we serve (to God) and FURTHER to this, do not share any portion of service that we serve (i.e. they serve totally other than Allah).

          hope that helps.

            Peace,

it was good to ask this. It led me to another topic, the most important topic in my view, to be able to see the things --really -- from the perspective of the others

you see in this practique "reminder" and you welcome it. I saw so different thing, I almost saw insults, I had read "you are a rejector!!" said to the person the verse was addressed. Now it makes me laugh )

            thanks for the answers

mquran, I didn't realise I was deprecating me ) and yes, I am very interested, too much I think, it is like a dependence, chronic right now, but I resoluted to finish it one day, to conclude it when I have enough information.

To add to this, remember an 'al-kafir' is a person who creates mischief on the earth. So it's not simply not believing, its an actual belief which is the diametrical opposite to the quranic system of belief. An indepth study of kufr will tell us that the Sunni conception of kufr is completely nothing to do with the Quran.
