      Salam NoProgressive

      welcome to the forum.

If I may I ask - why do you give yourself the id "NoProgressive"? Just asking because I think the God alone Path can be called Progressive Islam, too.

      See you

        peace warda,

I personally am not a fan of the term 'progressive Islam', as this implies progress is being made with/in "Islam", i.e. it is a change. When I see it as a return to the original.

        ps - welcome NP.

            As Salaam Alaikum,

Hey! I'm a Sister! Not brother. hehe

            Salam NoProgressive

            welcome to the forum.

I don't call myself progressive because I'm not. I don't agree with alot of progressives on issues... and I'm not even sure who they are, y'alls opinions are too scattered around. Don't know what you all stand for and stuff like that. If anything, I'm a moderate I guess.

to me i find that progressives seem to be at times just as extreme, prejudice/bias as the conservative at times.

Also if God wanted to call Islam progressive, he would have. And there are no sects in Islam as well (though that is sligtly a different topic).

            salaam

                As Salaam Alaikum,

I came to God alone because I realised that some things just weren't right going any other way. Some hadiths actuallyl CONTRADICTED the Quran... and poeple have the nerve to actually say that these hadith overrule the Quran.

So now I'm for God all alone.

                salaam

                Peace sis,

Good point you have there. Interestingly, an atheist once commented to me about this behaviour of the traditionalists "Why do the words of man can override the supposed word of God?".

Oh, and I happen to agree with your 'No Progressive' view. I tend to view ourselves as ultra-literalists who discard everything except the fundamental, the original text of the Qur'an.

I think we have more right to claim the title 'fundamentalist' than the violence-loving fanatics who are known as 'fundamnetalist Muslims' by the world.

Salam Sister NoProgressive, Wakas and all ) ,

Unlike the rest of you I like the term progressive Islam actually because it shows that it's forward-looking. To me progressive Islam means that it deals with subjects in a more modern way which differs from the conservative way if v?ew. To me the discussions on this forum are progressive. I don't see it as changes/progressive is made in Islam but the way we look at it, we live it.

                    Peace

                      Salaamun alaikum Warda,

Unlike the rest of you I like the term progressive Islam actually because it shows that it's forward-looking.

How do you mean 'forward looking' ?

To me progressive Islam means that it deals with subjects in a more modern way which differs from the conservative way if v?ew.

Islam from the beginning would have dealt with our 'modern day' problems. You see Warda, there was nothing from the sky which dropped and told us, 'now the modern period has begun' (at least I hope not, if there was, I certainly missed it ??!!). It was we humans who labelled a particular period as 'modern' (and now 'post-modern') and we build a whole world-view around it.

'progressive islam' to me, simply acknowledges that we submit to the man-made worldview which demands a particular response. Suddenly islam is democratic, tolerant (according to the definition of the powers that be, not allah's definition) and so on.

The conservative viewpoint may CALL itself islamic, but we have checked them against the Quran and see how its totally contradicts the Quran. So we cannot play on thier terms and label ourselves with these labels just because there's a 'conservative' element.

To me the discussions on this forum are progressive. I don't see it as changes/progressive is made in Islam but the way we look at it, we live it.

The discussions on this forum is islamic because it discusses life and the essence of humankind. Humans from beginning of time have been doing it.
