What do those two mean? Does zakat has to do with helping out the poor? What about salat? How does God wants us to do the salat? I'm confused. I see alot of people praying like most muslims do and by seeing them do that I get a guilty conscious because I don't pray at all. I say only quick prayers like'Oh God, please help me out here.' etc I feel guilty by not doing anything!

            PEACE, HEART,

SALAA = being committed to fulfilling one's obligations/duties/responsibilities as a Muslim, meaing, associate nothing with Allah and follow the guidance in Al-Quran.

ZAKAA = to purify, meaning, having right intention/motive, right mindfulness, right action, right concentration, right effort, right view toward things i.e. salaa.

            Peace.

What did Musa, Isa and Mariam do without the book "Al Quran"?

They followed whatever Message was given to them. The Message for mankind post their Message, is Al-Quran.

                What is your understanding?

                  Peace be upon you PB,

My point is that you associated "=" salaa with following "Al Quran" (capatalized). This is definately not the case as Musa never had "Al Quraan" (capatalized) to follow.

All people have been given senses and reasoning capability in order to "read" Al Kitaab(The Laws of the Universe).

This reading is yet another reading pointing us to the Universe, but we keep focusing our attention on a physical book. We will take most books into the bathroom to read, but not this one!

The focus is wrong, it is a sign pointing us to the Universe. We can argue all day on subjectivity, but objectivity does not really on "faith" and "belief". When I put water in the freezer, one does not have to "believe" I will get ice, they can KNOW, because the LAWS are proveable and verifyable.

Salaa is some technique that gives us balance and must be guarded. I am still unsure of the correct translation for it, but I am still on the case.

I don't care how much one studies the universe, it can be a sufficient guide. If the universe could guide on its own, then the messengers and books would not have been necessary. Only Allah is sufficient as a guide and He guides mankind through His Quran.

Right, but that does not take away from the fact that you were wrong to EQUATE (=) salaa with following "Al Quraan", does it?

As I already stated, I am still unsure of it, but I deduct that there is some process to be done by the fact that it balances us (al salaa al wusta). I am leaning back towards meditation.

Regardless of what Musa based his solaa on, Al-Quran is our source for understanding solaa.

PBM This was Heart's comment "What about salat? How does God wants us to do the salat? I'm confused".

How can it be wrong? What criterion do you use for determining what your solaa is?

All people have been given senses and reasoning capability in order to "read" Al Kitaab(The Laws of the Universe).

The law of the universe are physical not moral, hence, the necessity for the prophets, messengers and books. I don't know what you are arguing against? Can you show me by studying the universe, how one carries out his solaa in regard to inheritance?

This reading is yet another reading pointing us to the Universe, but we keep focusing our attention on a physical book. Allah's ayats point back to Him and not the universe. What does ice have to do with solaa/moral development?

O.K. I read it, so what? What is the context of the ayat, please post it. Anyway, there is no mention of the universe in the ayat, unless, the english word horizon means universe in the Arabic.

According to Shabbir Ahmed, the best way to understand what salat is is to study what kind of people the musaleen are

                            An extract from QXP

7022 Except the MUSALLEEN. (Who are Musalleen? NOT the so-called ritualistic praying ones).
7023 ----- MUSALLEEN are those who always follow the Divine System.
7024 ----- And in whose wealth and possessions is a KNOWN RIGHT.
7025 ----- For him who asks for help, and for him who is deprived.
7026 ----- (And Musalleen are) those who have conviction in the Day of Judgment. And hence, in the Law of Recompense.
7027 ----- And those who are fearful of their Lords Law of Requital.
7028 ----- (They know that) Verily, their Lords Law of Requital makes no exceptions, so that none can feel secure.
7029 ----- Those men and women who preserve their chastity.
7030 ----- They have intimate relations only with their spouses that is, those who are rightfully theirs through wedlock. For such relationship they are free of blame. (Aw = Or = That is = And. 235-7).
7031 But anyone who seeks beyond this, those are the transgressors.
7032 ----- (And Musalleen are those) who guard their trusts and duties assigned to them, and their pledges, as a shepherd guards his flock.
7033 ----- And those who are truthful in witness and stand by their testimony.
7034 ----- And those who consolidate and protect the Divine System.
7035 ----- (Musalleen are the ones who collectively build it on earth and) inherit the Paradise in the Hereafter. Such are the honored ones.
