Yes brother Shaheed means martyr. And it is mentioned in the quran.

Here are 2 verses

And whoever obeys God and the messenger will be among those whom God Has blessed from the prophets and the truthful and the martyrs and the upright. What an excellent companionship!

Those who believed in God and His messengers are the truthful and martyrs. Reserved for them at their Lord are their rewards and their light. As for those who disbelieved and rejected our revelations, they have incurred Hell.

the arabic word "Shaheed" can mean any of the following

a martyr
a witness

this duality of a word meaning is very common in all languages, however the word shaheed is more of a witness than martyr

possibly because martyer will witness the blessing of Allah on the spot when they die for His cause and that is why they have been called witnesses, i don't know?

Shaheed means to raise one's self above the worldly ways to lead a life inscribed by Allah and stand tall as model amongst your umma and a witness over their deeds both in this world and in the hereafter.
