How does one grieve for a familymember who dies?
-
does no one have any clue on the subject?
Does Quran say anything on the subject? -
No, it doesn't. You could take a clue from one of the Bani Adam who buried his brother (see 5/27-32)
Personally, I dont mind being cremated if it's legal. Of course, if you remove the legal element, the best is being buried on farmland. At least we'd be good fertiliser.

Peace be upon you Peaceful,
How does one grieve for a family member who dies?
The God tells us NEVER to despair, so there is no proper way. Our goal is to remain at peace in the face of adversity. What would happen to us if we did not get sad? Nothing but good health D Stress leads to illness.
But the human was created weak, under the dominion of the animal nature. So we have serious conditionings to remove by maintaining "salaa" to purify the spirit/mind(nafs).

Is there a correct way to do it?How can anybody tell us HOW to grieve? Its a personal feeling u get when someone around u dies. Its something u have to work through. And "a correct way", I mean I guess there is a correct way for u and perhaps another correct way for me, but how to work through a lost and that sad feeling is so individuall. It cannot be told how to deal with.
I wish there was an easy answer to this question since I lost my father last week. But there isnt.
I also belive that grieving is kind of an egoistic feeling. I mean, I feel sad because I wont be able to see him again, and because I didnt get to say all the things I wanted to. But for him, dying must have been a relief. Thats what Im trying to focus on.

Hi all,
By ''grieve'' I didnt mean the feeling one feels, due to the loss(which obviously is personal).
What I meant to ask was, is there some stuff that we should do on death of a family member? Like I said, the society I come from believe that we should recite Quran some number of times, on the dead person's behalf, so that they would get its reward. Though honestly, I dont think mere recital of Quran is holy.
Yeah, propably some charity on behalf of the person who died might be a good idea.
Nadia, I am sorry to know about ur dad's demise.
I put up the question too becoz my grandmom died and I wanted to know what I can do. -
Peace be upon you Mehdi,

I dont get it ?
don't hate yourself.. we're all strangers just passing through brother...
Hate myself? Why would I do that?
Kyle do you believe love is weak?
Love is one of the most powerful forces in the world. Its the power that brings everyting together, like gravity. But what does this all have to do with the topic of this thread?
I will repeat, the believers do not despair, so there is no authorization to be sad for any reason. However, the human is created weak, under the dominion of te animal nature(emotions), we have to grow to the level where outer conditionings do not effect us. This is achieving the "garden" where there is a peace that nothing can disturb. This is the symbolism of the "mummy". Protected from outer conditionings and relying on the God within.
To Nadia,
may the Peaceful One grant you the peace needed to transcend all states of tension (sadness, fear, anger, etc) at his crossroad in your life.

Salaam.

I personaly dont think its possible to "buy of" someone elses sins, if thats what you meant.
But charity is good, maybe it helps ourselfs to feel better.
Nadia, I am sorry to know about ur dad's demise.
Thank you.

Peace be upon you Peaceful,
Sorry for the confusion. No, there is nothing that I can see that must be done except reuniting the body with the earth it came from. Anything else is an addition based on personal desires.
May the Peaceful One also give you peace as well to trancend all states of tension at this crossroad in your life.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the mornings hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the soft stars that shine at night.Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.-Author unknown

But charity is good, maybe it helps ourselfs to feel better.I didn't mean 'buying off sins'. What I meant was grieving in a right, good way.

Slaam Everyone!
From my quranic reading I do know that you cannot do ANYTHING to help the deceased. Correct me if I'm wrong but thats my understanding and I know the sunni practices of giving charity and reading Quran on behalf of the deceased is a normal practice. But I personally thinks its such a waste. The sunni's rely on a hadith that states 3 things that the deceased leaves behind is still credited to his/her good deeds. Charity, Education taught to peopl and I can't remember the other one. But there is a hadith that people follow but contradicts the Quranic principle that once deceased you cannot gain or lose credit as it's the END of a new beginning.

I guess it is a sunni belief. It comes from a sense of helplessness and grief,we feel when a loved one dies, I suppose.
But yeah, All of us have only our time on earth to do what we want and earn our merits.
Peace!
