Ayat 16:93 | Do we really have free will ?

1693 If Allah so willed, He could make you all one people But He leaves straying whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases but ye shall certainly be called to account for all your actions.
I donot understand what the above verse means. Probably , with the Free-Minds way of combining many verses from different parts in the Quran, it might mean something else.
But if i am to take this sentence literally, it would mean that Allah has the power to guide whom he pleases, and leave the straying as he pleases.
Dont you think that its a little interference on our free will ? There is a chance that you might be guided or not. How do we know whether we are guided ? If guided is it our duty to try and save those who are not guided ?

I see exactly what it says....I don't know where the confusion lies.....we have freewill (taba'an) but perhaps once we show Allah that we are worthy of being rightly guided he guides us (almustaqeem) but if one exhibits behaviour that is evil in nature or misguided he leaves that person in error until they reach what some would call "rock bottom" and then they are guided.Here are some verses(all are the literal translation accourding to YAQB.org)
We see in 16107 that God does not guide the nation, the disbelieving.
16107 Literal That (is) because they (E), they loved/liked the life the present world/worldly life more/over the end (other life), and that God does not guide the nation, the disbelieving.
In 2969 we see that truly God (is) with the good doers.
2969Literal And those who struggled/exerted in Us (for Our sake), We guide them (E) Our ways/paths/methods ,and that truly God (is) with the good doers.
Something to think about Maybe the fact that someone is concerned and trying to follow Allah and his messengers (even though one makes mistakes) could mean that they are being guided....and Allah in his mercy is helping them.
Something else to think about The people who are NOT guided don't care anyway as they don't believe. Maybe these people should be avoided....Someone who does not respect Allah will have even less respect for you(a mere human). 3918 and 3957 support this.
3918Literal Those who hear/listen (to) the word/opinion and belief so they follow its best , those are, those whom God guided them, and those, they are (owners) of the pure minds/hearts .
3957Literal Or it says "If that (E) God guided me, I would have been (E) from the fearing and obeying."

could it be that Allah guides the ones who wants to be guided and misguides the ones who wants to be misguided
I really see the "Mashi'ah" in this verse as refering to us not to Allah
"Allah Yahdi Mn Yashaa", i.e. Allah guides anyone who is keen to find the right path to Allah
"Allah Yodel Mn Yashaa", i.e. Allah miguides the ones who don't give a fluke about faith
I may find anothe verse that ad weight to the my understanding, and sure under this understanding we have our own freewill intact
if the verse means the will of Allah, then it may cause a bit of confusion and contradiction
imagine someone is keen to be guided but unfortunatlly Allah will was the opposite so do you think whatever the man do to find the path of God that Allah will prevent this from happening?, then force that man to eternal fire?
it makes no senses at all, but it will make all the sense if this man wants to be guided and Allah helps him to be guided and make much easier for him
on the other side we will also have the same conflict, imagine someone who does not give a fluke about finding the way to Allah and just spends his/her time doing all the possible sins, would you think Allah's will maybe to guide a person like that?, I'm sure not but it will make sense that Allah will make it even harder for that human to find the right way
consequently I see the verb "Yashaa" is refering to the people not to Allah, but I do understand fully that Allah does what He wants at the end of the day and i submitt fully to that, but I'm sure what He always does is always 100% just

"The same religion has He established for you as that which He enjoined on Noah - the which We have sent by inspiration to thee - and that which We enjoined on Abraham, Moses, and Jesus Namely, that ye should remain steadfast in religion, and make no divisions therein to those who worship other things than Allah, hard is the (way) to which thou callest them. Allah chooses to Himself those whom He pleases, and guides to Himself those who turn (to Him). "

Very good quote about the condemnation of sects (there are others I believe)....but that conversation is for a different thread -)I was reading your reply (shukron for responding by the way) and I thought....wait a minute....perhaps you and I have it all wrong in one way...I think I remember reading that Allah knows what is in our hearts....so how can we deduce that someone who is doing all manner of bad things is not actually on their way (through some sort of relationship with God) to becoming guided on the right path.....
Through out history there have been people (male and female) who were living lives that exhibited truly misguided behaviour and through some miracle were guided by Allah on the right path....People (prostitutes, theieves, murderers, etc) all of whom we would have believed to be doomed to eternal hell.....but through Allah's mercy they were guided to him and repented. In light of this thought, I'm re-evaluating my assumption that just because someone labels themselves through their actions or words today that they are on indeed "misguided" that does not mean that Allah will not put them on the straight path tomorrow.

Shukran for your reply, yep there are many verses that condemn dividing our religion, I have them all bro if you would like to read it
My understanding to the Mashi'ah does not conflict with the info you added there, in fact it runs in perfect harmony, that Allah will know if a prostitute wants to repenet or not and cosequently He will help her to repent, but if she was internally happy prostituting herself then Allah will leave her miguided
we can also use Omar Ibn Elkhatab as a possible example, while he looked a fierce enemy to Mohammad, the truth inside him may be something different and only Allah knows it, so it seems Omar was internally thinking about Islam and Allah made it easy for him
In a way I accept both understandings that it can be the Mashi'ah of Allah because He is above all things and what He wants to do is what is going to happen 100% regardless, I also take it as the Mashi'ah of the people, i.e. Allah will know what is in their hearts and consequently He will guide the ones who are thinking a lot about him
Please consider the following verses in the light of the second understanding
35- If anyone withdraws himself from remembrance of (Allah) Most Gracious, We appoint for him an evil one, to be an intimate companion to him.
36- Such (evil ones) really hinder them from the Path, but they think that they are being guided aright!
