Reason and Revelation
-
During my scientific career, I have come across scientists who asked how I could be a scientist and a Muslim at the same time. I normally reply to this by explaining that there is no conflict between real revelation and factual science. We have science today because we have been given the intellect to study and research it around us, basically the sky is the limit in scientific pursuit. As a believer, I am always certain that revelation from the Creator of the universe has to be in conformity with science. Sometimes there seems to be a contradiction of science with religion, and vice versa. This is due to the fact that either the revelation is not from the designer of the universe or the science is not a fact but rather a theory which needs to be proven scientifically. The Quranic revelation challenges us that if it is not from God, we (humans) will find in it a lot of contradictions. I can assure you that at the moment we have not found any contradictions between the harmony of Quran and science. To give you an example, the great physicist Albert Einstein in his heyday thought that the universe was stationary and later in his scientific life, he discovered that it was the greatest blunder of his career and it was discovered that the universe has been expending from the time it was created. The Quran has been saying that it is expending 1400 years ago, and hence there is no contradiction. There are many explanations I could give but not in this small communication. One of the denominators in the Quranic revelation is it encourages human to reason with revelation itself, not just accepting it. Without reason, revelation means nothing, and this reasoning demands research on the universe through science. As far as real revelation is concerned, it is in conformity with reasoning. Science in itself I think is revelation which demands study and research to be discovered. Both revelation and science are from the creator, and without the creator there would be no universe and no laws nor science. There have been many great Muslim philosophers and scientist who have had a tremendous impact on the development of today?s scientific establishments in Europe and else where. It is a pity today that scientists have tried to completely rule out God from their scientific quest, without evidence. As a scientist, I demand scientific evidence and proof for disregarding the creator who made everything possible. Rather, mere chance and evolution have been nailed to disregard the Creator. How unjust is this assumption, without any scientific backing? When I read scientific literatures in Biological Sciences, I come across the word ?evolve? but not ?design?, as ?design? entails a ?designer? which some contemporary scientists, without valid evidence find inappropriate, as it suggest a Creator. By the same token, I do not see using the word ?evolve? right either, because scientifically it does not mean anything, and I would appreciate if someone could help me to reason with evolution, I am open to suggestions and reasons.

First of all, welcome to the forum brother.
Now to your question, I am a supporter of evolution. And not just without evidence. I find myevidence in the Quran. In the Quran, God says that Adam was sent down to earth. There is an article by scientists in australia which states that they found meteors containing cardon. These meteors came from outer space and fell down on earth, hence providing the planet with carbon. And from there own, the whole evolution process began.
-
salaam,
Yes we here about these current news items. But were is the evidence? How can carbon or any elements organise to life form? We do not have the answer to this. We can not proove evolution scientifically. Furthermore for evolution to occur the evolved species must give rise to a similar species, which according to my knowledge never occured.
It is also a fact that this theory is failing in the scientific arena nowadays.

Sorry jaxal. My friend posted a reply on evolution with my log-in name, the reply is not mine,it is from bmbmm. thank you. peace from enquirer.

salaam all
Evolution theory is just a theory. There is not the slightest evidence that it is true.
what do you think about the fossilesed bacteria found on mars?
If this is true, then all it means that Mars once had living bacteria on its surface. I cannot understand how it explains evolution.

Hi all,

If evolution is indeed proven without doubt, I would undertstand process of evolution to be the design of God. Science, is just a means by which we understand God's complex creations. And it will take us a lot many years to get there. But I dont see why and how science contradicts God's divinity.

the?o?ry ( P ) Pronunciation Key (th-r, th?r)
n. pl. the?o?ries
A set of statements or principles devised to explain a group of facts or phenomena, especially one that has been repeatedly tested or is widely accepted and can be used to make predictions about natural phenomena.that's for those of you who say that evolution is "only a theory and is not true." From dictionary.com by the way.
A theory is based on evidence. developing a theory is like solving a crime without having an eye witness to the crime. And as for you enquirer, it is hard to believe that carbon and other elements just mixed together by concidence because it wasnt a coenicidence. God planned for it to happen, so it happened. Nothing in this world is coencidence. its fate. and i think im spelling coencidence(coincidence) wrong.

Peace phoenix1,the article on evolution is not mine,my friend accidently posted on my log-in name, his log-in name is bmbmm. Sorry for confusion.
-
hi phoenix1, that article was posted by me (bmbmm) not by enquirer.
I agree with you, I have no problem if Evolution is backed up by God, the problem is, God is ruled out by some evolutionists.
Thanks Phoenix1.

Peace Dr Mudassir,
That claim of evolution failing is not true. Evolution is still going strong and backed by lots of evidence.

Hello All,
It is a pity today that scientists have tried to completely rule out God from their scientific quest, without evidence. As a scientist, I demand scientific evidence and proof for disregarding the creator who made everything possible.
Quran is not a scientific book. Quran is a spiritual Guide to humanity. Any attempts to portray Quran as a scientific book will undermine its immense spiritual value to humanity.
The scientific quest is not to prove God's existence. It is there to provide rational explanation for the material world. Science tries to answer the "HOW" question. It is the theologian's job to answer the "WHY" question. Science deals with the world of the material. Theology the realm of the spiritual. And therefore there is no conflict between science and religion. The conflict only arises when religion tries to undermine science like the fate of Galeilo when the Christian Church tried to supress the fact that Sun did not revolve around the Earth.
In the 18th Century Christian Churches challenged Science and it was utterly defeated. Christianity has not recovered fully since then. Islam had no such antagonism towards science since its inception. In fact science flourised under Islam. Much of the Greek learning was appropriated and enhanced and preserved by Muslim faylasufs and scientists. Even now Islam has no problem with new scientific truths and I do not see that it will have in the future.
But science also says the Universe will expand for ever. The Cyclic Big Bang Theory cuts out the Creator altogether. But cyclic nature of the Universe can be found in Hindu Scriptures. The Holographic Theory suggests that there is no objective reality which is in concordance with insights of the mystics. So science and theology best kept separate because science may undermine theology while theology will be tempted try to supress science!
Rather, mere chance and evolution have been nailed to disregard the Creator.
Chance plays a part in evolution but chance is not everything in evolution. But this "chance" may be there by design in the first place. So don't worry all be well, only a matter of time before our minds "evolve" to grasp this entire scheme -)

Hi Phenix,
I do not have problem considering the theory of evolution if 'only' God is in the equation, which is more scientific then not having him. However, from ten years of reading scientific literature I do not see God in there. Why evolutionist like Dawkins ignore the posibility of God?

Khi- Salam. Because they have prejudice. But even Dawkins remained silent and finally asked zto shut down the camera when asked to give examples of just a single mutation which would ADD INFORMATION to the genome and he admits that animals from the cambrian age were just planted there without any evolutinary history. GOD Bless!

Salam Idmkhizar,
I agree with you. Its strange that they are still trying to say that Evolution is Science. I can't believe that my great-great grand-dad was a monkey chilling out on trees, and I am here on FREE-MINDS talking about him. I think according to evolution, pigs gona fly one day. We do not know because the process is so damn slow!!!
-
Peace Jaxal,
The fact is...we are here and according to science we are not here because of evolution, because evolution is not science as they tell you.
Though this do not stop us to research how we come to exist. As a matter fact we are here and deep inside we know that Allah created us. -
SaLaM bmbmm
I am all for the 'becoz God says so'. But even we have to have some idea how we came to being? i mean, what was it? God snapped his finger and BAM! adam is on earth making babies with eve? Was that all eve was? a baby making machine? loooll serious im not trying be hysterical but if we all came from adam and eve then i feel bad for eve. How many babies do you think eve pushed out for it to be enough to start a population? bmbmm you are a scientiest and as a scientist you look at proof and evidence. Neither of has any, but lets hear a theory from you. What, in your opinion, happened once adam and eve came down to earth.
