I think immunodistruction in people with AIDS is more complicated than referring it to a virus. This is a serious problem because lot of money and time of scientists are wasted without solving it......and people are dying now as I am writing this. Please elaborate your views. Peace!

      What do u mean?

This is a serious problem because lot of money and time of scientists are wasted without solving it......and people are dying now as I am writing this

And what do u think needs to be done?

Don't we have good evidence that HIV/AIDS is real? The hard hing about battling HIV/AIDS is that the disease attacks the immune system--which is the main defense of the body, and that the virus has a very high evolutionary rate, so it is constantly developing immunity against the drugs developed so far. Hey, you're the PhD, you should know better!

Yes I know. Digging deep in to research papers in this field is quite confusing. There is no relation of the distruction of the immunosystem with the virus. Its more complicated and need more research.

Really? What does HIV do then, if not destroying B-cells?

It distroy cytotoxic CD8 and CD4 T-helper cells, as according to research. However, science carried out to charaterised the HIV is confusing. Check out "Club of Rome and Human Population" on the internet.

              Peace

What is that u r trying to say?

                That HIV is man made

                or

                HIV doesnt cause AIDS.

                coz u said

                says who?

I remember a looooong time i read in an article that a man was injected with hiv virus and he didnt catch it. His blood completely pushed the virus aside and isolated it. Amazing isnt it?

I also know of a published case regarding some prostitutes in an African country which has been found not to develop AIDS after contracting HIV. Apparently some people are resistant to HIV.

Oh yes AIDS is a defect in the immunesystem and can be caused by many things, such as stress etc.

When we are stressed we get sick because our immunesystem goes down, if this is persistant our immunesystem will eventually fail. Although, this could be a combination of many things, to be honest the immunosystem is very complecated and we are just trying to understand it. Trying to establish a link between this and a virus is possible as well(such as leukemia) but its not always true and is not a best way to help people with AIDS.

                                  Peace.

                                      Salam Jaxal,

I do not mean that but it does weaken the immunesystem. If it is persistant the immunesystem can fail. Although people do not use the word AIDS for those situations. However, I do not see any difference.

Thats becoz u clearly are not aware of the definition of AIDS

The current AIDS definition includes the following conditions

                                        • HIV positive, AND

                                        • CD4 (T-cell) count below 200 OR presence of one or more opportunistic infections.

Opportunistic Infections Included in the CDC's Definition of AIDS

                                        • Pneumocystis Carinii Pneumonia (PCP)
                                        • Kaposi's Sarcoma (KS)
                                        • HIV wasting syndrome
                                        • Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
                                        • Cryptococcosis, extrapulmonary
                                        • HIV encephalopathy (AIDS Dementia)
                                        • Mycobacterium Avium Intracellulare (MAC or MAI)
                                        • Candidiasis of the esophagus, trachea, bronchi, or lungs
                                        • Cryptosporidiosis, chronic intestinal
                                        • Cytomegalovirus disease (CMV)
                                        • Tuberculosis (outside of the lungs)
                                        • Herpes simplex virus infection
                                        • Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy (PML)
                                        • Primary lymphoma of the brain
                                        • Toxoplasmosis of the brain
                                        • Histoplasmosis
                                        • Isoporiasis, chronic intestinal
                                        • Coccidioidomycosis
                                        • Salmonella septicemia
                                        • Bacterial infections, recurrent, <13 years
                                        • Lymphoid interstitial pneumonia/pulmonary lymphoid hyperplasia, <13 years.
                                        • Pulmonary tuberculosis
                                        • Recurrent bacterial pneumonia (two or more episodes in one year)
                                        • Invasive cervical cancer

For surveillance purposes, the CDC currently defines AIDS in an adult or adolescent age 13 years or older as the presence of one of 25 AIDS-indicator conditions, such as KS, PCP or disseminated MAC. In children younger than 13 years, the definition of AIDS is similar to that in adolescents and adults, except that lymphoid interstitial pneumonitis and recurrent bacterial infections are included in the list of AIDS-defining conditions (CDC, 1987b). The case definition in adults and adolescents was expanded in 1993 to include HIV infection in an individual with a CD4+ T cell count less than 200 cells per cubic millimeter (mm3) of blood (CDC, 1992a). The current surveillance definition replaced criteria published in 1987 that were based on clinical conditions and evidence of HIV infection but not on CD4+ T cell determinations (CDC, 1987a).

                                        Peace!

                                          Hi,

This reminds me of my studies.

This is what i am trying to say. It can be caused by so many things, why always attribute it to a virus?

Peacefulmuslims....one thing to remember, definition is a definition, not a growing list of "conditions". I have no problems with AIDS. I have problem with the HIV causing AIDS. Because papers published to characterise the virus are not informative for me to reach a conclusion.
