Surah 9. At-Tauba (Repentance) or Baraat (Immunity)
-
As Salaam Alaikum,
sorry you all about the wait, I had finals and I've been feeling sick... so my bad about not updating.
So today I read Surah 9. This Surah basically talked about fighting, immunity, and how people constantly reject God. Often people like to read this Surah with Surah 8 Al-Anfal (The Spoils of War) because there is no ?In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful? in between the two chapters.
For some reason this chapter didn?t stand out too much for me. I don?t know why. Maybe it?s because I am sick? who knows. Anyways, here are the verses that stood out to me in the chapter.
NOTICE!!!!!!. I only note the surah and verse, followed a by decription/comment. These aren?t actual quotes!
914?Treaties are not dissolved with Pagans with whom you have entered into an alliance with (as long as they uphold their end of the bargain).
916?Talks about how we are to grant asylum to Pagans if they ask.
923?Take not for protectors your fathers and brothers if they love infidelity above Faith.
931?Praise and Glory is to Allah. He has no partners.\
936?The number of months in the sight of Allah is 12.
960?Alms are for the poor and the needy, those employed to administer, to those heart have been reconciled, for those in bondage, and in debt; in the cause of Allah, and for the wayfarer.
966??Make ye no excuses Ye have rejected faith after ye have accepted it. If we pardon some of you, we will punish those amongst you, for they are sinners? This verse is really interesting to me, the reason is because Allah is talking about pardoning some apostates? but yet many traditional Muslims believe that there is no ?pardoning? but just EXECUTION (which Allah has not commanded in the Quran!).
971?Believers, men and women, are protectors, one of another?..
974?Speaks again of apostates.
9107?There are those who put up a mosque by way of mischief and infidelity?to disunite the Believers.
9112?Mentions about bowing and prostrating in prayer.
9113?It is not fitting for the Prophet and those who believe, that they should pray for forgiveness of Pagans, even though they be of kin, after it is clear to them that they are companions of the fire.
Also I noted how in this Surah, Allah repeatedly talks about how when a Surah is sent down people panick, go back on their word, claim they believe, etc, etc? but eventually just turn their backs.
Tonight we?ll read Surah 10.
salaam

http//mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/think-786/disproved_salatequalsprayer.htmOne of the things I'd change in the above article is "assail IN your system/obligation" in 912. This weakens the traditional understanding of deen=religion.
Another thing I thought of was that it states "and THEY (muAAtadoona/transgressors/wrongdoers) assail in YOUR deen". Now traditional interpretations of these signs say the muAAtadoona have become Muslims, if that is the case, why separate them by THEY and YOUR. This clearly shows they are still thought of as separate groups, as the article points out.
