People where(i think) told to give up their idol worshipping ways,and where invited to see benefits in trading and animal rearing-many benefits.

And We have made the sanctuary to be a model for the people and a security. And they took the site of Abraham for the contact-method. And We had entrusted to Abraham and Ishmael ?You shall purify My sanctuary for those who visit, those who are devoted, and for those who kneel and prostrate.?

And when We made the House a pilgrimage for men and a (place of) security, and Appoint for yourselves a place of prayer on the standing-place of Ibrahim. Sorry but Abraham wasn?t a house cleaner ?as quite a few think.

I THINK IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN SOMETHING LIKE

(2125)And (remember) when we made The house/community of vying with one another for firmness for mankind and peace/safety and take from standing (of)Abraham the Discusser/trader and we covenanted with Abraham and Ishmael that they purify/make righteous my house/community (from idol worship) for those wanting to do good (that is trade with others/deal) and who devote themselves and those who humble the submitting.

What purity is Allah talking about let us see,

Wa-ith bawwa/na li-ibraheemamakana albayti an la tushrik bee shay-an watahhirbaytiya liltta-ifeena waalqa-imeenawaalrrukkaAAi
Behold! We gave the position to Abraham, of the (H) community (that is)- ?Associate not anything with Me? and sanctify My (H) community for those wanting to do good and who devote themselves and those who humble the submitting.

from this verse and many others its about righteousness -or ?not doing idol worship? ,and nothing about keeping a building clean and fresh.

And as the new community wasn't built/setup yet - it?s the idol worshipping which needs to be cleaned out from the previous community and the new one setup.

Or you would be saying
that they are told to clean the house before they have built it or layed the foundations - which is two ayah's later.

And as Abraham raised the foundations for the sanctuary with Ishmael ?Our Lord accept this from us, You are the Hearer, the Knowledgeable.?

And considering it was a community (the bait) the quran is easily understood but if it?s a buiding it doesn?t make sense to clean it before its built/setup.

And the Goats/sheep we have made them for you among the symbols (of)Allah you have in them much good so be mindful (of) the attribute (of) Allah upon them - wool and when they have served there usefulness put them aside/discard (and) eat thereof and feed the poor men and the begger who asks thus we have made them to you so that you may be grateful.

IN THEM YE HAVE BENEFITS FOR A TERM APPOINTED IN THE END THEIR PLACE OF SACRIFICE IS NEAR THE ANCIENT HOUSE.

WA-INNA LAKUM FEE AL-ANAAAMILAAAIBRATAN NUSQEEKUM MIMMA FEE BUTOONIHAWALAKUM FEEHA MANAFIAAU KATHEERATUN WAMINHATA/KULOONA

AND IN CATTLE (TOO) YE HAVE AN INSTRUCTIVE EXAMPLE FROM WITHIN THEIR BODIES WE PRODUCE (MILK) FOR YOU TO DRINK; THERE ARE, IN THEM, (BESIDES), NUMEROUS (OTHER) BENEFITS FOR YOU; AND OF THEIR (MEAT) YE EAT;

WALAHUM FEEHA MANAFIAAU WAMASHARIBUAFALA YASHKUROONA

AND THEY HAVE (OTHER) PROFITS FROM THEM (BESIDES), AND THEY GET (MILK) TO DRINK. WILL THEY NOT THEN BE GRATEFUL?

WALAKUM FEEHA MANAFIAAUWALITABLUGHOO AAALAYHA HAJATAN FEE SUDOORIKUMWAAAALAYHA WAAAALA ALFULKI TUHMALOONA

AND THERE ARE (OTHER) ADVANTAGES IN THEM FOR YOU (BESIDES); THAT YE MAY THROUGH THEM ATTAIN TO ANY NEED (THERE MAY BE) IN YOUR HEARTS; AND ON THEM AND ON SHIPS YE ARE CARRIED.

So people would go to learn the method ?no idol worship.
And at the same time see the many benefits from rearing of animals and remember thare wern't any silk cotton -i think ,so the animal wool and hides e.t.c where very very useful and people in that time and age wern't very advanced in anything ,animal husbandry was of a great advantage to humanity for benefits.

But in this day and age people go to other countries to learn many new trades and things which benefit them and no idol worshipping.
