This falls into the theories of multiple species of human coexisting. Although there is little physical evidence as of yet, there is plenty of evidence via oral histories that supports the idea of a smaller species of human existing at various times throughout the world. Until MDNA is able to be extracted ad compared, there will be no way of knowing if this is our ancestor or a seperate species.
Actually you're kind of right here Khi. I don't think floresiensis is our ancestor. There is good evidence for the theory of multiple species of humans coexisting, and if we only look at the only published sketelal evidence of floresiensis it might be a different species. However, the scientific world is still waiting for Peter Brown & co. to publish information about the other skeletons, which, rumour has it, are not as small as the first one published.
As for phoenix's question, they evolved from an earlier human species, of course.

This could also be an example of evolution reflecting enviornment. everything from skeletal structure, height, skin pigment and amount of body hair as well as how a body might store fat can be atributed to the enviornment and all of these things adapt acoording to changes in it. Native south americans are genernally shorter and have very wide feet with an extended space between the first two toes for climbing trees.
Again, this is a new discovery, or at least a new physical discovery and requires a lot more research, much of which may have to wait for further developements in technology. definately worth keeping tabs on though.

I think we need to look at evolution at the molecular biological level to find evidence and any possible support for it. So far I think we should throw away this theory as it does not hold an water as far as molecular biology is concerned.
We got fossils that document change along organism lineages. Why is that not evidence to you?

Looking at fossils is going back to history, where we will waste a lot of time, as its happening now, without going no where. We have something better today; nanotechnology and molecular biology. Why detonate a nuclear boom while we can assimilate the explosion using a computer?
How a fossile record gonna tell me of how through time say gills of a fish initiated a process/transformation to the development of lungs?

But that's exactly what evolution is, history! You missed the point when you say going back to history is going nowhere.
Anyway, lungs didn't evolve from gills. Lungs evolve from the esophagus.

In primitive fishes, lungs might have evolved from the elongation of the esophagus wall. That's why our lungs are directly connected with the esophagus (and with it comes the risk of choking).

The Epitheial cells of the esophagus are differentiated cells; how or what sort of enviromental stimuli and what sort of reception and/or kind of receptors on these epithelial cells managed to activate the biochemical pathways leading to the transportation of necessary transcription factors in to the nucleus of these cells to transcribe genes that will form the cells to extend the wall of the esophagus? Anyway before that how are the trans-acting transcription factors produced anyway? Andya, if you are thinking of doing a PhD I suggest you do it in Molecular Biology. Our lungs are not directly connected with the Oesophagus. The pharynx is the common path for the respiratory(nasopharynx) and digestive tract(oropharynx).
After which, the respiratory tract continues as larynx, trachea, bronchi and lungs.Choking occurs due to mechanical or functional obstruction of the upper airway such as the larynx, trachea.
