The Message (verse numbering)

Salaamun alaikum,
The reason why you face this issue to begin with is because you have overlooked al-quraan's internal pointers ('ayat' can be 'signal' as well). Al-quraan, if allowed takes you from authentication straight to application.
Al-quraan tells us that 'Quranan Arabiyan' was given to the mother of the cities. You can't find 'lisanun arabiyun mubiin' in North Africa, can you? Therefore, what you call 'warsh' cannot be al-quraan. Further, Allah tells us that He protects 'az-zikr', not 'al-tazkir'. So literally, its the one in rememberance, not the reminder. What you call 'Hafs' is in the homes of 'muslims' on earth as well as in the hearts of the hafizeen.
On what basis would you add the basmala ? What is your definition of a chapter? Where did this definition come from? How do you know al-quraan has a 114 chapters?
Therefore, if we accept Al-quraan's pointers, we should accept what you call Hafs and not add the basmalah.

Numbers don't concern me. Being on 'the same page' does. If all the translations have the same numbers, it's easier when communicating with someone who doesn't have a copy of 'the message'. IMHO these numbers are for reference purposes only, therefore let them be. Unless for some reason they affect the message? ?
Peace.

Both Hafs & Warsh originated in the same location. THe only difference is that Hafs became common in what we term as today's "middle east" while Warsh was common in north africa and Spain.
As for what God has protected, that is the 'Zikr' which is the core reminder/message of the Scripture and not the details penned to paper.

I would not say that all copies have the same numbering (as evidenced by Hafs & Warsh numbering and differences being printed by the same place - King Fahad Quran Complex), but you are correct, the verse stops were transformed to numbers to simplify reference/study of the Scripture.

Layth, I'm not a historian or an archeologist or in this case, a believer of Suyuti's al-itqaan fi ulumul Quraan (the first source to actually allege this). I am a human being who encountered al-quraan and uses only it as al-furqaan.
As for what God has protected, that is the 'Zikr' which is the core reminder/message of the Scripture and not the details penned to paper
What is 'message' and what is 'details' would have to depend on ANOTHER furqaan, in this case, Layth's Furqaan. If you interpreted 'zikr' as message (i.e. what is not 'details'), you'll have that issue to contend with. Anything you propose as 'message' will be your subjective choice.
-
I am trying to understand what Layth means by
"As for what God has protected, that is the 'Zikr' which is the core reminder/message of the Scripture and not the details penned to paper."
Basically what is being said is that the scripture has been altered but not the main message?
If this was the case then the sequence miracle of the book would not exist. Free-Minds has an excellent article
http//free-minds.org/articles/gods_system/koran.htmI counted up to the 7th time Jesus and Adam were mentioned in verse 359 and i was ASTOUNDED..honestly words can't explain the way i felt when i counted it for myself.

Peace be upon you,
I got lost, what is the 7 count about?

the verse says Qur'an 359 The example of Jesus with God is like that of Adam. He created him from dust and said to him, "Be," and he was
this verse is talking about the creation of jesus being similar to adam...but also alot more...now tell me this isn't a sign of the almighty...
the name "jesus" appears 25 times thoughtout the qur'an.
the name "adam" appears 25 times thought out the qur'an.
not only that, but this verse is the 7th time the name "jesus" appears in the quran and it's the 7th time the name "adam" appears in the qur'an.indeed The GOD speaks the truth when he states
Qur'an 5449 Indeed, We have created everything with a measure(this is just one of a few examples covered in the article)
