Homosexuality does not necessarily mean 'anal sex'.
Like I pointed out there are more heterosexuals who do anal sex than homosexuals.

My other point, for all people who came with 'anal sex' can be harmful to those involved. May be so. What about smoking? Should we punish people who smoke? Infact smoking not only harms the individual doing it, but also others around him. Passive smokers have a high chance of acquiring smoking related pathology.

    Health Effects of Smoking

About half of all Americans who continue to smoke will die because of the habit. Each year, about 438,000 people die in the US from tobacco use. Nearly 1 of every 5 deaths is related to smoking. Cigarettes kill more Americans than alcohol, car accidents, suicide, AIDS, homicide, and illegal drugs combined.

    Cancer

Cigarette smoking accounts for at least 30% of all cancer deaths. It is a major cause of cancers of the lung, larynx (voice box), oral cavity, pharynx (throat), and esophagus, and is a contributing cause in the development of cancers of the bladder, pancreas, cervix, kidney, stomach, and some leukemias.

About 87% of lung cancer deaths are caused by smoking. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among both men and women, and is one of the most difficult cancers to treat. Fortunately, lung cancer is largely a preventable disease. Groups that promote nonsmoking as part of their religion, such as Mormons and Seventh-day Adventists, have much lower rates of lung cancer and other smoking-related cancers.

    Other Health Problems

Cancers account for only about half of the deaths related to smoking. Smoking is also a major cause of heart disease, aneurysms, bronchitis, emphysema, and stroke, and it contributes to the severity of pneumonia and asthma.

Tobacco has damaging effects on women's reproductive health. It is associated with reduced fertility and a higher risk of miscarriage, early delivery (prematurity), stillbirth, infant death, and is a cause of low birth weight in infants. It has also been linked to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

Smoking has also been linked to a variety of other health problems, including cataracts, bone thinning, hip fractures, and peptic ulcers.

Furthermore, the smoke from cigarettes has a harmful health effect on those around the smoke. (Refer to the American Cancer Society documents, "Secondhand Smoke" and "Women and Smoking.")
    http//www.cancer.org/docroot/PED/content/PED_10_2X_Cigarette_Smoking.asp?sitearea=PED

So u see, smoking causes more health problems than anal sex does. Should we punish smokers?

Secondhand smoke is classified as a ?known human carcinogen? (cancer-causing agent) by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the US National Toxicology Program, and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a branch of the World Health Organization.

Secondhand tobacco smoke contains over 4,000 chemical compounds. More than 60 of these are known or suspected to cause cancer.

Secondhand smoke can be harmful in many ways. In the United States alone, each year it is responsible for

    • an estimated 35,000 to 40,000 deaths from heart disease in people who are not current smokers

    • about 3,000 lung cancer deaths in nonsmoking adults

    • other respiratory problems in nonsmokers, including coughing, phlegm, chest discomfort, and reduced lung function

    • 150,000 to 300,000 lower respiratory tract infections (such as pneumonia and bronchitis) in children younger than 18 months of age, which result in 7,500 to 15,000 hospitalizations

    • increases in the number and severity of asthma attacks in about 200,000 to 1 million asthmatic children

    • increases in the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and middle ear infections in young children

    • low birth weight in babies whose mothers are exposed to ETS

The 1986 US Surgeon General's report on the health consequences of involuntary smoking reached 3 important conclusions about secondhand smoke

    • Involuntary smoking causes disease, including lung cancer, in healthy nonsmokers.

    • When compared with the children of nonsmoking parents, children of parents who smoke have more frequent respiratory infections, more respiratory symptoms, and slower development of lung function as the lung matures.

    • Separating smokers and nonsmokers within the same air space may reduce, but does not eliminate, the exposure of nonsmokers to secondhand smoke.

Some studies have also suggested that ETS may be linked to an increased risk of breast cancer. The California Environmental Protection Agency recently concluded that ETS causes breast cancer in younger, mainly premenopausal women. The US Surgeon General is currently reviewing the evidence on this link, and a report is expected in late 2006.
    http//www.cancer.org/docroot/PED/content/PED_10_2X_Secondhand_Smoke-Clean_Indoor_Air.asp

And here u go......Smoking causes so much harm to people not even doing it, becoz of those who smoke. So, what shall we do about the smokers? Do we punish them?

    Peace!

Allah didn't say i the Quran that smoking is an evil act

i.e. homosexuality is evil, also Allah didn't say in the Quran that homosexuals are only the ones who do anal sex, He warned us not to have lust for men, i.e. not to even kiss any man on the lips

        got it?

        cheers

          Peace Ahmed Bahgat,

Allah didn't say i the Quran that smoking is an evil act

          I agree.
I understand Allah also says in Quran that all our beliefs and actions will be judged based on all the knowledge we come across(such as all that we see, hear , learn etc) in 1736. I am aware that u do not believe in this interpretation coz u believe it says 'dont argue........''.
Any way that being beside the point, Do u think Allah will judge us based on all the knowledge we posess?
In that case how would u justify smoking which clearly causes serious harm not only to the smoker but also to those around him, including children.

i.e. homosexuality is evil, also Allah didn't say in the Quran that homosexuals are only the ones who do anal sex, He warned us not to have lust for men, i.e. not to even kiss any man on the lips

          I agree.

Thats why this is more of a religious issue than anything else. And my reply about smoking was towards ur page filling posts such as ''The Disease-Ridden Homosexual '' and '' homosexuality is not merely a religious issue''. The truth of the matter is that it is a religious issue. I am not saying anal sex doesnt have health issues but then we have much worse issues around than that, whcih is what I pointed out.

The prejudice towards undertstanding homosexuality among muslims exsists becoz Quran disapproves and among christians becoz the bible disapproves. Thats why there are so much emotional responses. Sometimes the preconcieved notion makes some so far-fetched to believe Homosexuals are criminals and they result in crime etc (like we 've seen in this thread itself) which is absolutely ridiculous and has no basis.

So, it is a religious issue. And u believe Quran disapproves of the act. So now what? How would u deal with it? How would u deal with homosexuals? How would u deal with those heterosexuals who do anal sex in the privacy of their room(how u would even get to know if they do?)?

          Peace!

I understand that everyone is entitled to their opinion, I have the same problem with anne and sara, my wife and my 14 years old daughter, we discussed the subject while having dinner 15 minutes ago, and they are sort of like you

however all of you are missing the plot, because I agreed that they are nice people and have every right to live and enjoy this life, but the fact of the matter that IT IS PROHIBITED BY ALLAH 500% can't be denied

so for you, my wife and my daughter if you agree that it is an evil act from Allah perspective and will be punished by eternal hell as He told us and showed us many examples, like Gommorah, Sodom and Pompeii, if you agree on that then I have no problem to accept your compassion to them, because I too have the same compassion and have no problem in dealing with them in any way, I work with them, I joke with them and I eat with them, but I will tell them in the face that what they do is bloody wrong

            cheers

Its nice to see such a grounded response from u.
              Thank you for that.

The point that topo and some others are making isnt much about Quran and homosexuality. Its about homosexuals and their rights. I am glad that u agree that 'they can be nice people and have every right to live and enjoy this life. Coz I believe, This is only what they are asking.

so for you, my wife and my daughter if you agree that it is an evil act from Allah perspective and will be punished by eternal hell as He told us and showed us many examples, like Gommorah, Sodom and Pompeii, if you agree on that then I have no problem to accept your compassion to them, because I too have the same compassion and have no problem in dealing with them in any way, I work with them, I joke with them and I eat with them, but I will tell them in the face that what they do is bloody wrong

I shall quote topo here who is(I think) speaking from the homosexual side.

but the least that i can hope from this community is not to stigmatize gay people. even if the scriptures say it's wrong, but we live in a society that gives everyone the rights to live their lives, and we are expected to have tolerance for everyone. just like when we have to live with people with different religions, even if our scriptures comdemns them of worshipping different god from ours, but it doesn't mean that we have the rights to not let them live their lives peacefully.
maybe we don't agree with homosexuality and use our scriptures to justify it, as much as we don't agree with atheism and other religions, but discriminating them by not granting them a legal to get married is quite intolerant. we don't agree with people who have different religions from us, but it doesn't mean that we can deny all or part of their legal rights, does it?
maybe all those homosexuals and people who believe different gods will go to hell, but who are we to judge them? and yes, the scriptures say this and that about them, but i don't agree if we use our scriptures to condemn particular group of people that we don't like. let them live their lives, we live in a society with variety of people, we can't expect every one of them to follow every rules in our religion.

I am just taking neutral ground here. That is all. I just dont want to be biased in my dealing with anyone becoz of my religious beliefs and notions. My point is we need to treat those individuals respectfully and equally. There is more to people than their sexual orientation and their sexual preferences and there is more to life than sex. As for their sexual act, I would rather say ''Let Allah judge when He does on JD and He for sure would be the most fair''.

              Peace!

JK- What if i dont want to befriend one who indulges in homosexual activities? Can anybody force me to be kind with them or joke with them? What if i just warn them, then if they dont listen turn away from them like Lot and his followers did? I have a right to do this and personally i would not befriend any homos who have indulged in the act. If they admit that theyve done wrong and repent then thats a differne story. Remeber what GOD said in the Quran about the woman who remained behind. Supporting the homos as as worse as being one of them. Infact supporting hetero anal sex is just as bad in my view. GOD Bless!

gay people might be going against nature. But they are entitled to live their life the way they want to (or have to). I know somone who's gay, and she's a good person. Whatever somone's beliefs are, we have to accept them and live with them.
So even if we don't agree on whether gay marriage is approved by the quran or not, we should all agree on the fact that everyone deserves to live their life.

(this post was in response to Johnny's comment that he doesn't want to befriend gay people)

Peace all. This topic has obviously evoked a lot of response. However i am disappointed that so many strange and unusual statements have been made condemning homo-sexuality. I was talking with my wife yesterday and i asked her; 'how come you are attracted to me?(a man) My point being that to me a man is not attractive sexually, yet to someone else(woman or man) a man can be 'attractive'. Who am i to tell my wife that she is wrong because she is attracted to me(a man) and i am attracted to her(a woman). Arent people allowed to have a natural choice? What is the attraction of women to men?Can any male answer me that? Do men agree with womens choice being the opposite to the choice they have?Is the man wrong or the woman wrong? What is gender? Is the soul male or female? How many 'sexual crimes' are committed by straight people as opposed to gay people? I agree with peacefulmuslims suggestion that the people of lut could have been warned in order to stick to what they feel 'natural' with and not homosexuality as a whole(in other words, dont indulge in being gay just for lust). Once again i say topos&peacefulmuslims posts contain a lot of wisdom, well worth re-reading.
What of haemaphrodites? No command in the quran? I will not hide behind the quran to justify illogical, unsubstantiated and discriminatory opinions and behaviour.
                      Peace to all,respect to all.

Believe it or not, I have known many gay men that have never recieved or given anal penetration. it is not only about who you are sexualy atracted to, it is about which gender turns you on inside and out. It's about who you fall in love with.

(this post was in response to Johnny's comment that he doesn't want to befriend gay people)

JK- What if i and many others see that a particular person's lifestyle can cause great harm to society? Should we just sit back and so ok, NO way! We have a right to argue against hs, the activity, NOT the mere thought and feelings, and how we believe it is bad and crminal.
Moreover lesbianism is by far not as bad as male hs and that was not why the people of Lot were condemned. Infact the Quran never mentions any community being condemned coz of lesbianism. Not thaat it is right but it's not that harmful to society unless ofcourse one of the women decides to stkc her fingers 1st into the anus and then into the vagina of the other. That i would consider as a big crime, whther done with or without consent. GOD Bless!

                                  Peace everyone,
According to myself and many others even those who have not yet penetrated but have gay feelings pose a potential health threat to society. Thus the steps suggested to be taken are as follows. First the gay one should admit that hes gay when asked and not lie. Next he should admit that these feeelings are not supposed to occur and that he has to do something to stop them. He should be educated regarding this. Then he should be ready to take a therapy, which could be hormonal, psychological or other appropriate. If he stubbornly denies all this then we should be left with no choice but to exile him from the country. He can then go wherever he wants to but leave the prosperred society alone. This is how i would like the law to be setup and i believe in a gew years one or more of the US states is going to do exactly that. This way no one can argue of them being backward since theyve offered all kinds of therapies and gone through all kinds of logical explanations before exile takes place. GOD Bless!

Heres my reply(using ur very own ideas) to people such as u who discriminate humans and cause a greater disharmony in the society.

First . People who discriminate and spread hatred amongst human beings for no apparent reason ''should admit that these feeelings are not supposed to occur and that he has to do something to stop them.''

''Then he should be ready to take a therapy, which could be psychological or other appropriate.''

How do u like this? Shall we do this as well? wink

JK- Yep your entitled to your views. It doesnt matter whether i like it or not and you dont have to like me or my habbits. If you find certain habbits of certain people as criminal you can always come up and suggest punishments for them but i suggest you back up your arguments with logic as ive done. This is called freedom of speech. You can well suggest this to the government and if the majority accept this then you dont even have to worry because ill be the first one to readily leave the country by myself. GOD Bless!

                                        Hello jonny,

I am little concerned about you. You said you had gay feelings for a another man (I would say you are bisexual but thats a different topic)! Now jonny how can I be sure you will not have them again. So I am worried. I think we need to put into a special place so that when you have your "feelings" again, we can exile you from the society because having those feelings can be very detrimental to society, Yes? wink -)

                                        Regards,

JK- Good point LT. But ive realized my mistake and i ADMIT that ive done wrong. In that case the chances are very less that i ever involve in such an act. If the feelings come up again, then it is suggested that i get medical or psychological treatment which i would also be ready to accept ofcourse. However unfortunately no psychiatrist has uptil now setup courses for such people. GOD Bless!
