Do we need religion to be good people?

Peace nabi and all. Ok,how about this; humans can do nothing without gods will, yet they are punshed for disobedience. Human deeds are pre-destined by god yet they are punished for doing them. God is all-powerful and can do anything yet there is a huge amount of suffering in history.(allegedly caused by shaytan,who has no power except as god wills).
God willed the satan into existense then punished him eternally for disobeying him.(When he could have guided him to obey) God is the most merciful yet throws people into hell-fire eternally just because they dont understand him.(especially since he has the power to guide them.) As a teacher would you condemn your students to hell because they couldnt unerstand your lesson? God already knows everything yet asks questions like 'what is that in your right hand moses'? God is most merciful yet children get abused and tortured,as do old people.(even worse considering he supposedly has the power to stop these events) God commands people to obey him knowing full well they will disobey,yet then
throws them into eternal hell-fire. The list goes on. Are these logical?

Peace nabi and all. My understanding of god is roughly equivelant to what lote-trees response to nehdia,and also nehdias understanding. The link/article is in the general section titled;gut feeling,intiution etc..(on one of lote-trees posts.) That link explains it more eloquently than me.It can be termed infinitheism. I also have some sympathy with the 'we are parts of the whole philosophy'.(god within or we are all limited gods).God can be viewed as a metaphor for everything that exists or a moral force for good.

I see this question being thrown about quite a bit - Do we absolutely need scripture or else? - perhaps not in those exact words. But when one answers, there's usually a consesus, me included, where the answer would normally be no. Mission accomplished end of story. "We dont need scripture" ...now who would like a cookie! D
Now I can understand those who DON'T believe quran to be words of God (directly or otherwise)... Sure it's a nice book to 'once over', but let's move on, shall we? Please, by all means, have a nice time, be good and take care.
Now then, for those who believe quran to be words of God. Here's a few reminders from the author.

38 We said ?Descend from it all of you, so when the guidance comes from Me, then whoever follows My guidance, they will have nothing to fear, nor will they grieve.?
39. And those who disbelieve and deny Our revelations, they are the dwellers of Hell, in it they will abide.231 ...and do not take God?s revelations lightly. And remember God?s blessings towards you, and what was sent down to you of the Scripture and the wisdom, He warns you with it. And be aware of God and know that God is Knowledgeable in all things.
Chapter 3
3. He sent down to you the Scripture with truth, authenticating what is present with it; and He sent down the Torah and the Injeel.
4. From before as a guidance for the people, and He sent down the Criterion. Those who rejected God?s revelations, they will have a painful retribution, and God is Noble, extracting in Revenge.Chapter 6
20. Those to whom We have given the Scripture know it as they know their children. Those who lost their souls, they do not believe.
21. And who is more wicked than one who invents lies about God, or denies His revelations! The wicked will never succeed.-
And if you could see when they are standing over the Fire, they Say ?If only we could be sent back, we would not deny the revelations of our Lord, and we would be believers!?

And this is a Scripture that We have sent down which is blessed, so follow it and be aware, that you may receive mercy.

Lest you Say ?The Scripture was only sent down to two groups before us, and we were unaware of their study!?

Or you Say ?If the Scripture was sent to us we would have been more guided than they!? Clarity has come to you from your Lord, and a guidance and a mercy. Who is more wicked than one who denies God?s revelations and turns away from them? We will punish those who turn away from Our revelations with the pain of retribution for what they turned away.
Chapter 7
175. And recite to them the story of the person whom Our revelations were given to him, but he removed himself from them, and thus the devil followed him, and He became of those who went astray.
176. Had We wished, We could have elevated him by it, but he stuck to the Earth and he followed his desire. His example is like the dog, if you scold him he pants, and if you leave him he pants; such is the example of the people who deny Our revelations. Relate the stories, perhaps they will think.Chapter 8
2. The believers are those whom, when God is mentioned, their hearts reverence; and when His revelations are recited to them, it increases their faith; and they put their trust in their Lord.- And if Our revelations are recited to them, they Say ?We have listened, and if we wish, we could have said the same thing. This is nothing but tales of the ancients!?
Chapter25
30. And the messenger said ?My Lord, my people have deserted this Quran.?Chapter 59
43. Had We sent down this Quran to a mountain, you would have seen it trembling, crumbling, out of reverence for God. And such are the examples We cite for the people, that they may reflect.Peace to all )
Oh, and do we need religion to be good? No.

I believe from all the verses you posted and considering that religion is nothing but following the message sent from God, then religion is a must to pass the test
the test is two parts

to believe in Allah his messnegers, his angels his scriptures and the judgment day

to do good deeds to other humans
number 2 is dependant on number 1, i.e. number 2 will not be accepted unless number 1 is done, this is what the Quran says

We do not need religion, as religions are man-made, as there are many of them. What we need is guidance from God, whether its an idea, inspiration or through a book.

We can guide ourselves by application of our God-given reason, intuition and imagination? Is there need for anything else?
