    salam.
some of my relatives have told us that their dead relatives have communicated with them in their dreams . some of the stories are very convincing .

my auntie asked me a few weeks ago , if i have read anything about the dead be able to communicate through dreams . i said no . later , ayah 3940 came to my mind ,

The Quran 3940 God takes the souls when they die and during their sleep. He then keeps those that have been overtaken by death, and He sends the others until a predetermined time. In that are signs for a people who will think.

both the nafs of the dead and the asleep are at the same place with God . is it possible that they can communicate with each other ? i think so .

also ,those who are asleep can communicate with each other too , i think . as far as i can remember , there is a strong possibilty that any person that i have seen in my dreams was also asleep at that time .

i dont have much to provide as a proof , but just these personal experiences .

      Peace be upon you Saladin,

This is a good topic. Ancestor communication is a big part of Traditional African Spirituality. From some teachings I have learned, I TEND to believe it. But please not I said believe and not KNOW, there is a big difference. I have not experienced it myself yet, so i cannot confirm it, but I am trying to D

However, I am not really sure what "Koran" says about this. I know there are verses which have been translated in a manner that would seem it was against this understanding, but then we have verses like the one you gave.

I would like to hear what others have to say about it.

        peace

communicate with people (dead or alive) when asleep...yes i guess it's possible.

        personal example

i sometime have the feeling that i've communicated with my dead grandfather when i wake up and also, there is a person i deeply care about but do not see often. sometimes when waking up i have dreamt of this person and it fills my day with joy

The above experiences can be explained differently but my daughter even saw her stepmother in her sleep before she ever met her... and this sure is something else!

          Saladin

According to the Quran dead people cannot communicate; they are dead!
But, before looking at the Qura, you should refer to your God-given natural guide.

I have an evaluation of several "paranormal" claims at my personal website, www.yuksel.org. Please check them.

          Peace,
          Edip

you're right, quran mentions a barrier existing between the dead and the living.

It does... however, the question is whether this barrier is surmountable or not? Could some people have special God-given abilities to make some sort of contact where it is impossible to most people?

so it says there is a barrier between the living and the dead... but what does 'barrier' mean? What can the arabic word mean? Is it a barrier that prevents a dead from coming back to previous earthly life? Is it a communication barrier? How do we know? A barrier on the road can stop a car.. but the car's light and horn will be able to pass. A strong glass door can prevent air, bullets, people and sound from passing through a corridor, but not light and heat... so what does the barrier in that verse really stop? What is it that doesn't pass between dead and living? Is it communication, change of status, all kinds of interaction? We don't know, do we? If someone does... please feel free to enlighten me!

                  ???

to me that's the important part of the verse (that Saladin posted). what 'signs' is it talking about?

                      Hello

My personal opinion which was posted in detaiks in many threads is simply the Barreir "Barzakh" is very possible to be the Event Horizon of the Black Holes, I actually consider the Black Holes as the Cemetries of the Universe, it may sound mad but this is the closest I could find and ironically many others who I know well reached the same idea

                      Allaj knows best

                      peace

I do think we have to realize that when people die, their bodies remain here, which I think is self-evident... so what is it that does not remain with the body? The soul, or nafs. So, if we have trouble even identifying our own soul while we're alive, we sure are going to have trouble being in touch with the nafs of someone whose body is dead. Perhaps this is the barrier... the barrier that exists between us mortals and the spiritual world, which is generally not breached.
