    Salam .
    When I used to read the verses about the ?Ahl al kitab/people of The Book? , the descriptions never seemed to fit the Jews and Christians . but after gaining some understanding about ?Al Kitab/the Book? , it becomes clear that the ?people of The Book? are none other than the Muslims themselves. The descriptions about the ?people of the book? fit the Muslims very well .

    3187 And Allah took the covenant of those who were given the Book "You will make it clear to the people and not conceal it." But they threw it behind their backs and purchased with it a cheap price. Miserable indeed is what they have purchased.

    If any people were given the Book . then they have made a covenant with Allah to make it clear and not to hide it . but they ignored the Book . they kept the book hidden from the people , all the time talking about and propagating other books . that?s why the Muslim world itself is unaware of its own Book .

    Who are the Ahl al Kitab/People of the Book ?

    If the Muslims give The Kitab(the Quran) to any non-muslim,for eg. the jews and Christians to read . They take the Book from the Muslims and they read the verse ?O People of The Book , come to common terms?? , what will that Jew think that who are the People of the Book ? whom did they take the Book from ? are the jews the people of Book ? do the jews possess the Book ? no , the Muslims themselves are the People of the Book . the Book belongs to them . not the jews ? the Muslims do not want to take the title ?People of the Book? . why ? ?

    3110 You are the best nation raised for the people, you order towards kindness and deter from evil, and believe in Allah. If the people of the Book believed it would have been better for them; from amongst them are believers, but most are wicked.

    2109 Many of the people of the Book have wished that they could return you to being rejecters after your believing, out of envy from their souls after the truth was made clear to them. You shall forgive them and overlook until Allah brings His will. Allah is capable of all things.

    ...because the the Book(Quran) exposes most of them as wicked .

    but not all of them are same

    3113 They are not all the same, from the people of the Book are a community that is upright, they recite Allah's revelations during parts of the night and they prostrate .

    who are the people who recite Allah revelations(not the Bible) at night ? Jews and Christians ? No , the Muslims .

    what do u think ?
    salam.

      Hello bro

      Just to make things simple and logical, the people of the Book can be any people who received a Book from Allah, i.e. all the christians, the jews and the muslims and possibly many others that we are not aware of are the people of the Book. however the context should control which people of the Book specifically, it can be one of the above three and it can be two of them and it can even be all three and the others

      Peace bro

        peace brother .

        Just to make things simple and logical, the people of the Book can be any people who received a Book from Allah,

        or the Book(i.e one specefic book) ,that Allah revealed with the prophets (2213) .

        i.e. all the christians, the jews and the muslims and possibly many others that we are not aware of are the people of the Book.

        but the jews and christians dont possess the Book ( "Al Kitab" is refering to the same book,the Quran, begining from 22 till the end) .thats what i understand .

        peace.

          sorry mate, while 2213 mention the book in singualr form, it is by cotext and even the language logic it means a seperate book was sent with whoever Allah chose from the Anbiaa, even if it was the same content it must be a seperate book because they were sent to different people in different location at different times and possibly in different languages

          i.e. all the christians, the jews and the muslims and possibly many others that we are not aware of are the people of the Book.

          they do have their own books that they corrupted it with their own hands now they have the last and preserved book unchanged to believe in it and the last book was sent to all humanity in all locations at all times since revelation and untill the JD

          peace bro

            the same book would mean the same contents, the same thing was written in the book given to the prophets in different location and different times .

            i dont agree with different languages .

            they dont have the book introduced in verse 22 . ie., they dont have the book sent with the prophets .the books they have are man-made books like the books of Hadiths . you dont think that "Al Kitab" would refer to the Sahih Bukhari, or "Ahl Al Kitab" would refer to the 'people/followers of Hadith books' .

            thats what i understand from the Quran .

            salam.

              say "O people of the book, ye are upon nothing UNTILL you make standing(uphold) The Torah, The Evangel and what has been sent down to ye from your Lord.....

              This is from chapter The Table.

              We as muslimeen are commanded to urge and commend what is known (al ma'roof which is translated as good in many interpertations)....so also to urge the jews and christians (the people of the book) to uphold their given book.

              "and what has been sent down to ye from your Lord" is for instance the message that Jesus was not the begotten Son of Allah and that Allah is not 3 but 1. to "Speak about Allah only the truth" and truth is something that can be proven through another way then the words of man, man afterall can be wrong, lie and deceive.

              I do however believe that those who go by the koran also fall into the category of "people of the book", it depends however on what their relationship is to the koran.

              The koran is sent as a reminder, an announcement of good news(for those who already were grateful to Allah and did good and mending works) and as a warning.

                This where the word "al furqaan" comes in, the critereon. And the verse"speak about Allah only the truth", truth can be proven outside the words of men, wether written or spoken because of the fact that man can be wrong and has the ability to lie and deceive. In the bible we have the verse It is better to seek refuge in The Lord then to trust in man" psalm 118 verse 9.

                What is the truth and thus can be proven? there is a creation so it is logical and true that there is a creator, afterall something like a table can not exist without someone making it, so this applies to everything even the fibers and even atoms and smaller or greater. The ultimate in everything is One so He IS One Creator/God.
                And because He created us and sustains us through His creation and nothing is ours and everything is His, we are obliged to be thankful to Him, and do a mending work as to preferably leave the people in a better state then when we came to it (the world). Kufr which is translated as "disbelief" means more "ungratefulness" and thus only a "kafir" is ungrateful to his Creator.
                The true basis of service is thankfulness, and if one is unthankful then he should serve out of fear because He does not love the ungrateful...and fear which man is created with should only be placed in it's creator...He has the most right to His creation and He knows best what to do with His creation, The Merciful.

                  Allahu Akbar* means Allah is greater*, remembering Him who is always greater then any comprehension, thought or being is the way to freedom. Allah is (in allways and always) greater.

                  *quick lesson in arabic

                  *greater= akbar
                  smaller= asghar
                  great= kabeer
                  small= sagheer
                  greatest= al akbar
                  smallest= al asghar

                    "people of the book" is not refering to jews and christians . the jews and christians have man-made books . their books are not the "Taurah" and "Injeel" mentioned in the Quran .

                    there is no book revealed before the Quran . Quran is the first and only revealed book of Allah .(464)

                    464 Say "Do you see those that you call on besides God? Show me what they have created on the earth, or do they have a share in the heavens? Bring me a book before this, or any trace of knowledge, if you are truthful."

                      I think the Muslim hat was plagiarized from the Jew hat.
