Today, while contemplating the Qur'an, this aya and its interpretation came to mind. Formerly, I have interpreted it as meaning that God isn't compelling us to submit, but rather he's just showing us the way that is clearly right, and then leaves it up to us to choose. I still hold this interpretation, but another alternate interpretation came to my mind. Could it be that this aya is telling us that within the realm of religion, we should not be compelling anyone... that is to say that we should not force our views upon anyone? We can present them in a neutral fashion and let people think what they may, but it is wrong to force our beliefs on others however correct our beliefs may be. This would concord well with the concept of ignoring blasphemy (6137, 7180, 334, essentially just letting people have their beliefs, and that one of the key parts of Islam is to NOT compel other people to believe in Islam, and it hence follows that no Muslim has the right to compel upon another Muslim his interpretation of the Qur'an. It is clear enough that no compulsion is needed, and anyhow people have to right to choose, and only God can punish them for their choices.

      Bro

there is no complications in here, No compulsion in religion, clearly means

      1. no forcing to make anyone join a religion

      2. no forcing to make any believer follow a specific practise or teaching

I think that is what you believe already

      peace

Re 2256 " There is No Compulsion in ..... ", I think the Verse Is Clear Enough ( un-Umbiguous ) That we must not Use any Force to get people to join Our Diin , Nor do we Compell anyone to accept our Opinion. However , 2256 does not Preclude us from Striving to Intellectually Persuade others to see a 'Reasoned Argument' based on Logic backed by Evidence from The Scripture , Be it The Torah, The Injeel or the Qur?n.

If you check out 383 ( Everything in the Universe Submit to God Willingly or Un-Willingly ) , I think it will assist your Understanding regarding No Compulsion in Religion .

I am sure most of the People in FM Came here Because of the Strength of Arguments and Evidence Presented here. I know that is The Reason why I have Migrated To God Only Form of Islam . Cheers
