Assalamu alaikum,
Quick post.
Ive heard lots of people here stopped doing salat because they realised the problem with hadeeths. I too acknowledge this problem.
But what I dont understand is, if one stops doing salat like everyone else, then they are going against the Quran. This is because the Quran clearly says 'bow down with those who bow down' in several places. Millions of Muslims pray in Mekkah and Madina and everywhere else in the world, you simply follow them as the Quran commands. And we know we are doind it CORRECT because it is inline with the three compulsory positions of salat mentioned in the Quran which are bowing, prostrating and standing.
Please explain why I hear some people here are not doing their prayers (salat) any more like everyone else or are thinking not to.

I still perform 5 salat..but not like some submitters or Mainstream Muslims or PM's.
When we perform salat with like minded believers(i.e. at the same times) then we are doing them together whether we are physically with each other or not.Well thats how I see it.http//www.free-minds.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5185

I dont see the need to drift from mainstream practices.
The obvious intepretation of Quran when it says bow with those who bow doen is simply follow those who do it. If there is not contradiction with the Quran, continue praying as everybody else does! Simple as that. Maryam was told to do the same.

Could you please give Quran quotes that say we must follow people even if they are wrong in their views and the majority?If this is true we should all adopt Hinduism if we live in India or Christianity if we live in Christian nations.(sarcasm here)- When they are told, "Follow what GOD has revealed herein," they say, "We follow only what we found our parents doing." What if their parents did not understand, and were not guided?
The statement to bow with those who bow is referring to True Muslims,not to Muslims who may have adopted pagan practices or to polytheist, Christians,or Jews.We cannot find the different hand movements,or the number of rakats in the Quran..Where the Quran is silent,it implies God has no specific decree on the matter, the only things it mentions concerning salat practice is that there is standing(399), wakharra rakiAAan fell down kneeling(3824)(we cant fall into a bowing position)and prostrating(399;4829).No mention of holding our hands in a certain way..anything else is innovations and up to us to decide..We perform salat by Praising and Honoring GOD,not by following methods that are not prescribed in GODS words..
EXPLAIN to me how wakarra"and fell/fell and" can make since..
3824...." and fell/fell and, bowing,and turned(in repentance).
So unless wakarra can also mean to bend over,then I Cant see it..

As Salaam Alaikum,
I make the 5 day salat too. I doo it traditionally but I don't do that prayer for the Prophet Muhammad becuase salat is for Allah alone.

Nothing wrong with that,whatever we feel comfortable with..Ive said before that I Dont do the salat as Trads do because we have no proof that it was handed down intact from the time of Muhammad(Quran only says that the Quran would be preserved not obscure details left out of the Quran.But since the Quran leaves it up to us on how to peform them,then thats up to us..Saying one does it because the Majority of Islaam does it doesnt sit well with me..Do it because you want to Glorify GOD not people..2170. Any Arabic speakers? No one has answered my question concerning wakharra yet.......Unless wakarra can also mean to bend over,then I Cant see it..meaning bowing....

Does it also mean bend over???Kharra has a sense of falling from, please see verses 2231, 3414, 7143, 12100. It has also a sense of "becoming" "turning into" like in verses 2573 and 1990. The issue is not whether "to bend over" is part of the kharra meaning but it is all about the understanding of what is "sujud", "ruku", and "iquama" and whether you associate to each word a "physical" meaning or not-). The debate started with the translation of these words and not before-). Having said that, some would need the bending over or what some others would call it "bowing" too, to "fall down" and that's why they do it very quickly to give the impression of "falling down".
When I was in Jerusalem, I saw the Christians, the Jews and the muslims all "bend over" the same way but I have never heard any of them "revising" the arabic meaning of the three above words (I met Arab Christians and Jewish fluent in Arabic) until I came across the free-minds.org-). I continue to bow and prostrate until it is proven otherwise. It makes me feel very much at peace that my body follows my mind. And God the All-Mighty is the best Teacher and Knower. May HE guide us on HIS path.

Thanks for the reply,,hmm so it could also mean "standing and turning(in repentance)bowed,and prostrated"..this seems to make since..
As for the physical meaning or not...I see all things in the QURAN as having both physical and mental meanings,,we peform salat physical,but to do so and not have the right mental frame of mind is pointless,etc etc etc..to peform salat just as a physical act is wrong imo,but to perform it in just a mental since is also wrong. -

I agree on what you say that because the Quran is silent on the details on the matter, there is no right or wrong way of doing salah after the compulsory positions mentioned in the Quran.
That is why rakats or putting the arm on chest while standing are all fine. They all involve the positions mentioned in the Quran. Infact there are Muslims who simply stand in salah with hands on their sides, and they fully accept hadiths as far as I know.
