can anybody help me with the arabic term independent
-
Salaam,
Can the arabic speaking persons tell what independent mean in arabic terms? Does it refer to mature women? To age or means of living(being independent on funds)? Also that 2433 can really be read as it is translated in the reformist trans.
Thank you
Peace
Arnold
Chapter 4
425 And whoever of you cannot afford to marry the believing independent women, then from the still dependant believing young women. God is more aware of your faith, some of you to each other. You shall marry them with the permission of their parents and give them their wage in kindness; to be protected, not for illicit sex or taking lovers. If they become protected, then any of them who comes with lewdness shall have half the punishment of what is for the independent women of the retribution. This is for those who fear hardship from among you. But if you are patient it is better for you, and God is Forgiver, Merciful.Chapter 5
55 Today, the good things have been made lawful to you, and the food of those who have been given the Scripture is lawful for you, and your food is lawful for them; and the independent from the believing women, and the independent from the people of the Scripture before you, if you have given them their dowries, protected, chaste, and not seeking to take lovers. And whoever rejects belief, then his work has fallen, and in the Hereafter he is of the losers.Chapter 24
244 And those who accuse the independent women and they do not bring forth four witnesses, then you shall lash them eighty lashes and do not ever accept their testimony. Those indeed are the evildoers.
2423 Those who accuse the independent chaste believing women, they will be cursed in this world and the Hereafter, and they will have a painful retribution. -

I believe the arabic word "Mohassenat" means "Not Ma Malkat Aymanikum", i.e. Free God fearing women", independant can be used as I can't find an english word to suit it perfectly, it comes from the root Hassan with a Sad, which mean to build a protection, therefore i believe Mohassenat means the FREE women who protects their modesity , I don't think it means financially indpendent though

My understanding of al-mohssanat is not in terms of independent or free but it is about those women who guard/protect their chastity (not necessary virgins). An example given to us of a mohssina woman was the mother of Jesus or Maryam. Verses 2191 and 6612, mentions the verb "ahsanat" (to be called mohssana that person has to practice al-haussn so she "ahsanat". So Mary "ahsanat farjaha" (literally she guarded her private parts). That same verb is found in verses 1248, 425, 3612, 7829 and 2180 in which regardless of the context, it has a sense of protecting/guarding from. The verse 2433 clearly shows what the tahassun (what al-mohssanat practice/do is called tahassun). Please see also veres 424 and 55 to understand the meaning of al-mohssanat. So for me the best word for al-mohssanat is the chaste women or in other words, women who are not "promescous"-).
And God the All-Mighty knows best.
Peace. Myr.Yes sister I agree that in the context it means exactly what you said, i was just trying to see if there is alink between Ma Malkatu Aymanukom and Mohasnat as both appreared in the same verse a couple of times I believe
my understanding is Ma Malakatu Aymanukon, could not chose to have sex or not with his master or guirdian or whatever it is , but a Mohasnan woman is free to say no to this act
was just an idea nothing more, i agree with you totally regarding the clear meanig according to the context and other related verses
