Contradictions and inconsistencies in the quran?
-
peace mquran and zenje. Ok,your explanation in your last post is one i find reasonably satisfactory...(regarding the positive plight of someone with access to only poor translations who rejects these, while still being 'moral'.)
No offense to you, but what you find 'reasonably satisfactory' isn't what I'm aiming for. I'm aiming to expose the teachings of al-quraan which you have misrepresented due to a glaring lack of research.
I will answer your questions in a while mquran...It would be nice if you also could addresses some of my comments...or even re-read some of your posts...
Answer them at your convenience as long as you don't shirk your responsibility which was created by the genesis of your discourse. In other words, if you can interrogate (and you can, by all means) then you can answer.
I tell you what, lets do it 'i go you go'. If you can pose one question for me, I'd like you to answer this
- what is a teaching of al-quraan which is 'harmful'.
-
Peace mquran...no offense?! Dont worry,im sure no-one finds you offensive? Do you have a responsibility to read and address the comments i have made to you? Your discourse is not needed,my previous posts have already addressed what i find harmful in the quran...If you can/want to,then refute them point by point.
peace all. ps;you did guarantee that i wouldnt answer your three questions ( see your post at 7;23 pm to bmbmm.),and then you denyed doing this?! I suggest you read and research your own posts, rather than making 'unfounded' assumptions about my research. Another poster wrote in another thread about 'ego' getting in the way of a decent discourse...well i dont want it to get to that level. (if it hasnt already.) I find your dialogue 'style' very innappropriate, but ironically i do feel you have some very good points to make, and i agree with some of them...but walking the walk is the thing, not talking the talk... -
Peace mquran. So we can never even make a slight assumption in our 'research'? I think the assumption that a lot of the members (or even some.) know the place and verse numbers of what i quoted,is reasonably accurate,no?
-
Peace mquran...no offense?! Dont worry,im sure no-one finds you offensive?
Don't know. Maybe. If they do, I'm ready to listen to why and when.
Do you have a responsibility to read and address the comments i have made to you?
Sure. Remind me if I fail to do so, please.
Your discourse is not needed,my previous posts have already addressed what i find harmful in the quran...If you can/want to,then refute them point by point.
Would you mind naming ONE thing for me please? I really do not have the time to go through combing through your posts. Let me assist you by assuming to ask
Do you find hand-chopping harmful ?
If so, we can start our deconstruction there.
peace all. ps;you did guarantee that i wouldnt answer your three questions ( see your post at 7;23 pm to bmbmm.),and then you denyed doing this?!
Ah that gurantee. Ok. I admit to that and I was wrong. You did answer, masha Allah. Lets hope you keep answering, especially to the post of mine replying to your posts. That thread will go to interesting places, I can assure you
I suggest you read and research your own posts, rather than making 'unfounded' assumptions about my research.
Can I ask you Is not acknowledging or responding (if you're unable to respond which is usually the case) to someone who has taken the trouble to respond to you appropriate or not?
You're meant to be a proponent of 'open-mindedness' and 'goodness'. Wonderful. Does that open-mindedness include the possibility that al-quraan is indeed God's teachings to humankind for all time?
I'm glad we're finally talking. It's good to talk
-
Peace mquran. So we can never even make a slight assumption in our 'research'? I think the assumption that a lot of the members (or even some.) know the place and verse numbers of what i quoted,is reasonably accurate,no?
Is it your place to evaluate how reasonable it is or should you treat other people's beliefs with the greatest care? You're not criticising someone's favourite trashy novel, are you? If you care about your fellow human beings, shouldn't you introduce your criticism (to say nothing of answering counter-criticisms which you never do) in the most complete way?
-
peace mquran. Ok,yes i find hand-chopping harmful in todays society, when jails, rehabilitation, social study etc.. is possible and available.(not that it was totally un-available in the past, necessarily.)
Yes,i do recognise the 'possibility' of quran being the word of god,i have clarified many times that if interpreted properly,it can be a great source/help in guidance...
If it is to be regarded as guidance for 'all times',then the interpretations definately have to be updated and cater for the modern context.(with the literalism and previous translations, sometimes sorely lacking, and impractical, inhumane.)
I also dont believe its necessary for our salvation,as the universal laws are available elsewhere..(i know you havent claimed its necessary for salvation,im just clarifying a point.).
peace all ps;yes, its good to talk. pps; ive just read your last post...i can appreciate and tone down my tone when adressing peoples sensitive beliefs..you are right...i suggest you can do the same... -
Hello Ahmed,
Good Morning Danish
Care to educate me on my points below
For you, of course I care, but not for everyone though
which I believe were not touched in the manner approached,
Bro, in this sort of debate any thing that you or me say that is sounding like
- I believe?..blah blah
- I think ??.blah blah
- It seems ?.. blah blah
- Most likely ?.. blah blah
- Possibly ?.. blah blah
- Probably ?. blah blah
And all sort of things that is not affirmative can not be admissible, these are all emotional based sayings and you are the one that don?t want it emotional, I believe, in courts too we can't provide emotional evidences
What we need is one word bro
Certainly it is ?. Blah blah,
then we should specify why it is certain
keeping the discussion simple without extra baggage and undesirable interference?
Bro, you are the one that is making it hard by resorting to your English thesaurus trying to overwhelm a non English speaker, well nothing to gain really
If that is not your intention,
My intention is obvious and clear, I don?t need to explain it further, I have almost 2000 posts and in many of these posts I explained my stand clearly as well had to defend myself against a few personal attacks, at the end of the day what you see from me is a typical me, I don?t pretend to be someone else neither I try to be someone else, there is only one that I will be, that one is the true me, you want to take it any other way as a couple of members who flagged me out by name criticising me again did, fine I respect your opinions towards my personal character, at the end of the day I?m sort of tolerant to any personal attacks unless I find it requires a tough response from me
then I beg to debar from participation and conclude your behavioral discussions as good-for-nothing beliefs.
Here we go, another tough English comment that sort of confused me because I don?t know what the hell you mean by the above, I hope it is not something bad though
I?m a free man and I don?t abuse my freedom, my behaviour as far as I?m concerned is very satisfactory to myself and many, in addition to that there are many here that I don't accept their behaviours but I respect it by simply ignoring these people, I don?t cri around and flag members by names trying to undermined their character unless responding to someone who is trying to undermine my character regarding my Arabic Quran experience. At the end of the day I like my style and I read my own comments a lot after posting them and it makes me feel really good. Sorry, I can?t change my style, but those who don?t like my style can easily ignore me, I said this before many times actually, but at the same time they shouldn?t keep flagging my name after they ignored me, I believe this is the most proper action that should be considered by them.
780-82
Lot said to his people, "You commit such an abomination; no one in the world has done it before! "You practice sex with the men, instead of the women. Indeed, you are a transgressing people." His people responded by saying, "Evict them from your town. They are people who wish to be pure."2928-29
Lot said to his people, "You commit such an abomination, no one in the world has ever done it before you. "You practice sex with the men, you commit highway robbery, and you allow all kinds of vice in your society." The only response from his people was to say, "Bring to us GOD's retribution, if you are truthful."Bro, I replied to this and my reply is a conclusive refute, see, if we have judges and rules in place regarding the contradictions debate we will not waste our time over and over again, something I really hate, but let me have another go with you but keep in mind the word we need and prove is ?CERTAIN? , if you manage to do that I will have no problem to concede that it is a contradiction, if any doubt is in there then sorry it can?t be ?CERTAIN? and I can?t concede but I expect that you also concede that it is not ?CERTAIN?
Now for the alleged contradiction above, here is what you need to do
You need to prove to me that the two incidents were CERTAINLY one incident
And here what I need to do
I need to prove to you that the two incidents can?t be CERTAINLY or may not be one incident
plese note i will have the luxury of using "may be" if there is a valid possibilty for it, and you can't have that, because you are the accuser and the onus is on you to prove it beyond doubt
The important point is this if what we both proved that it is possible both ways, then your alleged contradiction CAN?T BE CERTAIN, and consequently it will be rendered non admissible and we move on to the next one, this is legal, simple and fair rule that we must adhere to
- In 780-82, Lot talks to his people about the abominations/crimes and his people evicts them from their town when in 2928-29, his people only asks for him to bring GOD?s retribution for the same abomination/crimes.
Again what is your proofs that the two incidents are CERTAINLY one?
Here is my proofs that the two incidents can?t be one or may not be one
In the first event (780-82), what Lut said to his people was different to what he said in the second event , can you spot the difference?, well he accused them of homosexuality in both events BUT IN THE SECOND EVENT (2928-29), he accused them with another 2 crimes ? and commit robbery on the highway, and you commit evil deeds in your assemblies?, this clearly indicates that it was another event, don?t you agree?
And even if he accused them with the same crime in both events, DID ALLAH SAID THAT BOTH EVENTS ARE THE SAME?
HE NEVER DID, but you and the likes of you did, now you need to tell us why you did so and how you prove so?
- Both verses talk about the same event in relations to Lot,
The concpet is the same in both events (A PROPHET WARNING HIS PEOPLE OF A CRIME) and there is nothing from the Quran that suggest that it was the same event, can you please provide this evidence if you can?
his people,
Yes, but he was sent to his people to warn them every day, NOT bloody ONCE
his enemy,
Well, this should be covered under his people
place and time,
Excuse me, where in the Quran it says the place and time regarding these events?
collected and patched up at different places in the Quran, hence the repetition,
Sorry, you should say it, hence the miracle
yet differ in its presentation.
That confirms the miracle
This also proves, as is evident in several other exact cases/stories throughout the Q`uran,
Yep, it proves the miracle of the Quran
what 8015 is talking about where two or more people are involved in Quran?s compilation methods (exactly as historical analysis demands).
Far out, I hate that, now you are jumping to something else, excuse me man, 8015 is talking about the angels
Note If you think that the above two verses talks about seperate events at seperate times, then I will bringforth other events that are time restrained and still convey dissimilarities.
Look man, bring what you bring, I?m sure the Quran will refute you, but what you need to do is the following
We need a clear cut contradiction
If the same story was told in two ways then you need to find a contradiction after you prove to us beyond doubt that it is the same story at the same time and same place (this is going to be hard for you bro)
- In 2928-29, no punishment or eviction is observed for more crimes (same sex, robbery and other immoral practices), against one crime (same sex) with an eviction.
I don't care now about what they say really, even if they said the exact same, I will not take it as the same event unless you prove beyond doubt that they are the same events, then you need to find and prove a contradiction in it.
Please also explain why several case scenarios and stories have been repeated in a multiple yet incoherent and inconsistent fashion at various stages throughout the Quran, alleging the infallibleness of its construction and presentation, especially when coming from Allah?
Excuse me man, Allah is the Quran Author and it is up to Him the way He wants to create His book as it is up to any author of any book, I myself like His style as An Author and from the language point of view, it is unique, miraculous and amazing, I love it man
Salam

Peace ab,
Peace enq
Ab; first, you have to take every 'crime' on its merits and in context,...
Well, that is what Islam taught the true Muslims exactly, but that does not mean that we don?t have a fixed penalty for it, life as is now contradicts you, because what you say sounds like we have many different penalties for the same crime
not have a fixed,pre-conceived,
wrong, we must have pre fixed penalty, life as is now contradicts you
literal,
wrong, because any law according to life as is now is put in place to be interpreted literally
innappropriate,
how you can judge a punishment that is inappropriate?, according to what standards exact?
and why smoking a joint in Holland is allowed while in many countries, it will put you in jail for long time?, what standards these countries are followings exactly and why countries contradict each others regarding punishment imposed on the same human and for the same crime?
ancient,
how ancient is ancient? I mean to what standards exactly?
out of date punishment
haha, I like that, which date it expired?
ready for the 'crime'....
mister smart, when people know the punishment in advance, they will fear to commit the crime
Do you travel by car or by camel every time?
Mister enquirer now shifted to other personality from the many he has, well, let me shift to one of the many I have as well as a response to his sarcasm
Mister smart asked Ahmed
Do you travel by car or by camel every time?
Ahmed says
Mister smart, I?d love to have a camel in addition to my car because the fuel prices are really high now days, and the good thing about camels is, they are 4 wheel drive but I like the option that you can get them one or two seats, 4WD is standard though
Do you have a computer or send a pigeon for your messages?
Well, I use the computers to make my livings, I eat the pigeon ?it is a delicacy tough? and I use Australia Post to send my mail
Do you read your quran from parchments/scrolls or can you read it from printed bound books,or even the internet?
I do all, but that was one hell of a silly question mister smart, LOL
In other words cant technology/situations/science/understanding/interpretations evolve with time and study?
And what that has to do with a fixed punishment?
If you think its moral to chop a hand off for theft,
Well, hold on a sec and don?t get existed with your man made god
Is the word theft sounds moral to you?
It does not to me, and I think to all humans except thieves, don?t you agree?
Now we are talking chopping the hands of serial thieves here, for example Omar Ibn Al Khattab, one of the big names in Islam who lived with the prophet, when he ruled the Ummah a few years after the prophet died, the Ummah was hit with a drought, Omar stopped implementing the penalty for the theft during any hardship time that hit the Ummah, these are the true Muslims who used their minds to change Allah laws due to the circumstances changes
Now when Katrina hit America and looting started due to lack of resources, what they did there?, they shot them and arrested them, some looters even been shot dead, looters also included police officers and all sorts of suppose to be decents, this even happened many times over the history in many other non Islamic societies who are implementing different laws to the theft, compare this with Omar Islamic Ancient actions, and you will know the damn difference and you will know how hypocrite most westerners are, they are now so ignorant/hypocrite that they compete very well with the current ignorant/hypocrite Muslims
or whip 100 times for adultery or crucify for capital punishment in this age of jails, rehabilitation centres, alternative humane punishments, psychological study etc...then we obviously have different views of morality....
if you consider theft and adultery are morals then sure we have different views and I?m happy to differ with you
By the way,do you believe in dna for crimes or do we need 4 witnesses?
Don?t be a confuser, but I have to admit you are a professional
Do you mean 4 witnesses for the crime of lesbianism?
How many witnesess do we need for rape,or gay-sex etc...
The quran mentioned 4 witnesses for lesbianism, for the others, if it didn?t mention it then any evidence will be accepted to prove the crime, even one witness, the Quran though warned us hard from fake witnessing, now other genuine and proven evidences other than witnesses can also be admissible like photos or what ever way it was recorded on a media
How long would some of the posters who post 'unfounded allegations' about others last with the 80 lashes for 'allegations without 4 witnesses',rule?
A clear cut confuser you are, what the hell was the above rant?
And who said anything about singapore?...
Mister smart, I used it as a country applying capital punishment that does not fit the crime, something the Quran never told us to do, to break the neck of a drug trafficker (your civilised law), how civilised Singapore you reckon?
are your punishment laws valid literally for all times and all situations?...
my punishment laws?
I told ya, a clear cut confuser
well how come so many muslims would disagree with their literal implementation in todays society? (or are they all incorrect except a select few who agree with you?) I doubt many of you could literally 'stomach' the literal reality of these punishments in todays society...(have you seen stonings,beheadings,whippings,amputations?.....not a pretty sight...also,what if you get an innocent person, will you give their hand or life back?)
I have my own opinions on morality. Just like i love my mother because of my own 'heart','natural intellect',morality and my opinion tells me too...thats the same 'heart, intellect, morality and opinion that makes me find some of these literal translations immoral....Hope thats enough evidence for you and others...if not, then tell me the evidence you have,or need that a person should try to take care of his family,or love his children?....
peace all.far out man, that is F too much, how many bloody subjects you talked about mister smart, sorry I mean mister confuser?, well I?m dumb, I have to ignore the above and leave it to a smarter member to respond to it, way too much rants, sorry
-
Peace Ahmed,
s the word theft sounds moral to you?
I'm not taking sides in any argument here, but my answer to the above could be yes depending on what kind of theft it was.
Let's say a politician steals money from people to fund his next campaign. That's not moral.
But if a poor man who has a family who hasn't eaten in days steals from a person who's been robbing them for years, that is perfectly acceptable to me. I would never cut that poor man's hands off. -
Peace Ahmed,
s the word theft sounds moral to you?
I'm not taking sides in any argument here, but my answer to the above could be yes depending on what kind of theft it was.
I accept that bro, in Katrina case it was moral because they have to survive exacly as it happned in Omar ruling time, the Quran should be understood with other contexts that the thief must be a serial thief, not a desperate thief
Let's say a politician steals money from people to fund his next campaign. That's not moral.
of course and if we take the literal verse and apply it here for argument sake, we need to the following
- the theft must be proven
- the theft must be for a personal gain without the urgency/need to do so
- he did it before and insisted in doing it
this is how I see the Quran punsihment fits
now cutting the hand is aweful, i have to agree, but at the same time, i have nothing to worry about because i know that this is enough to make me not to steal in addition to its immorality, but again if my hand is cut, would you think that my life will come to an end?, of course not, because i know many who lost more than a hand in accidents and were thanking God for keeping them alive and they conituned on with their lives, if God did this to the ones who did not stole from any one to test them, why not denying him doing it for the ones who are violating his laws?
But if a poor man who has a family who hasn't eaten in days steals from a person who's been robbing them for years, that is perfectly acceptable to me. I would never cut that poor man's hands off.
of course and chances should be given to repent for the poor and needy, but yet they should not insist on the theft , we should leave that robber to God and other humans laws that control the crime he/she is committing not to take our revenge by stealing them as if it is justifiable, theft is wrong but if urgency need and lack of resources forced any to commit this aweful crime then the circumstances should be considered and chances given if the motivation is proven incconet and not malicious and perpetrating the right of another human to live peacfully and securely
Peace

Peace cavemandoctor. I assumed that many of the members already knew the verse numbers or,can quote them.( i havent got the time to find them all.) i thought the contradictions i posted were self-explanatory (and many were not addressed,as danish pointed out.) ,but if the inconsistency is not clear to you, then i will clarify upon your request...
Peace enquirer. You see, it's not just about knowing the verse number. How you translate/interpret the verse is key to whether there is a contradiction (in a sense, this is the point you've made all along). This is why posters continually ask you to say why you think it's a contradiction. And to say you haven't got the time to find them all is intellectually lazy. You have time to participate in a 25 page thread but you don't have the time to post your translation of the verses and go through them and analyze them? Do you see why posters get frustrated? We don't ask you to post your translation/thoughts just to harass you; we ask you because we want to know what your understanding of the verses are so that we can approach the discussion in that vein, and to see if we can then clarify things for you. Far from this being an attempt to force or compel our beliefs on you, instead we are trying to find out exactly what your thoughts are so that we can provide a counteranalysis. I suspect this is why many in here say you lack a deep understanding of these alleged contradictions. They're not assuming; rather, they're going by the depth of analysis, or lack thereof, you provide in these very debates.
I'm not trying to be mean but it often seems like you're playing the game, but with different rules. A basket for you is worth 10 points; for others, 2 points. Others aren't allowed to travel or double-dribble; you on the other hand can, and if someone points this out to you, you accuse them of compulsion or of being defensive. I hope I'm being clear; basketball is the best analogy I can come up with. D
I ignored some posters because they were rude,or continually seemed not to read my posts properly, and got emotional...if you noticed with the poster who was civil and not emotional ( poster openmind.) I tried to respond slowly, and form a dialogue and discussion, going through the points step by step and answering his questions...
I agree that there are some who are rude in here. I know you are mostly referring to mquran and AhmedBagat here. I totally agree that some in here use methods that arent altogether effective and have tones that should be eschewed. For that, and for them, I apologize. Personally though, I do not think mquran is rude at all. I find him to be simply direct and a no-nonsense intellectual. I can relate to his frustration with those who, like I said above, like to play by different rules. Note I am not saying I don't accept different views or don't like discussing different views; far from it. What I don't like is someone who simply plays by different rules. We can have different understandings/beliefs/philosophies but we must approach a debate in an objective and logical way. Claim-Response-Counterresponse, etc. After all, this is why we are here.
Finally, to be sure, yes you responded to OpenMind but only after he posted 3 times repeatedly asking you to acknowledge him. Should it really take posters begging you to acknowledge them in a debate? Surely you can appreciate how that is unhealthy and unproductive. Ultimately, it is very frustrating and it gives people the impression that you think you are in some way superior. Please don't think I am attacking you here; I am merely pointing out how you come across to many. I am actually trying to help you.
I did not make assuptions about the forum members..I know the general views of a lot of the members here, and i always clarified 'some' members believe in some verses literally, not all..so i did not generalise.
I was not just saying dont take the whole quran literally,i was saying if you take many of the verses literally then the book becomes inconsistent and contradictory...And that is not a straw-man argument.Fair enough. If you didn't say there are some who take the Qur'an 100% literally, then I apologize. I thought you said that; maybe I'm mistaken.
I notice that many think that they can question a persons intellectual integrity,or honesty just on the basis of a few posts, and without taking into account the circumstances/context of the posts, the posters actual real view-point,or the negative manners of some of the posters responding to their posts....
You dont know anyone that believes in literal handchopping, lashes, physical angels, sticks into snakes etc? (i didnt just say the allah on a throne,in the sky, over the water verse.)... I could call that intellectually dis-honest...but i will not,as i will take into account that you are human, and i wont question your integrity and intentions...
peace all.To be fair, this is an assumption you have made. I have not simply read a few posts. I have read many, many posts of yours. I took circumstances/context into account and I have tried hard to understand your real viewpoint.
And when did I say I don't know anyone who believes in literal handchopping, lashes, physical angels, and sticks into snakes? You can't call me intellectually dishonest since I never said that. If you can point out where I said that, I will humbly apologize. I simply said that I don't know anyone who takes the Qur'an 100% literally. I gave the "Arsh" example to prove a point. No one I know takes that verse literally so, by extension, no one I know believes the Qur'an to be 100% literal. Where did I say no one believes in literal handchopping, lashes, etc.? Can I now call you intellectually dishonest?
Finally, I'd like to make a point about questioning intentions and integrity. This isn't just related to this forum but rather is inherent to all internet message boards. Often in debates, I'll see someone say "you don't know me and you dont know exactly what my thoughts are; don't assume." I find this to be a copout. It is true that we don't know everything about you. But, many of us have read many, many of your posts. You have shown what your beliefs are. Further, in this thread alone, you have proceeded to debate in a way that is not conducive to healthy discourse and understanding. This isn't us willy-nilly questioning your integrity. This is us simply reacting to you. Poster X casually mentions 10 contradictions, then posters Y and Z give responses to those claims, X ignores them, Y and Z ask X to acknowledge their responses and further debate, X then dismisses them. I can safely say poster X has been intellectually dishonest. What do I mean by intellectual dishonesty? I mean X is someone who is not really open-minded, someone who is not really interested in an open debate about the issues, someone who doesn't want to play by the rules but rather wants to make hit-and-run claims and either ignore or give knee-jerk reactions to posters who try to debate X. I can question X's integrity. Sure, I don't know everything there is to know about X but insofar as this particular debate goes, I can question his integrity. There is nothing wrong and presumptuous about that.
Peace.

I found the above statement is nothing but crap to be honest
so what you are saying that you agree with this enemy of Islam that me and Mquran are rudes then you come and say thet you son't think that Mquran is rude, oh yeh Ahmed is,
look bro i warn you to talk ill about me again, because simply if you do again you have to carry the consequnces of your BS

Peace Ahmed. The above is exactly what I'm talking about. I have expressed my opinion and I am entitled to that. I value you as a member of this forum. You do have a lot of knowledge of the Qur'an and Arabic and I appreciate that. To be honest though, I think you tend to be abrasive and you engage in debating methods that leave a lot to be desired (this is my opinion). If I talk ill about you again, I "have to carry the consequences of my BS?" What kind of thinly veiled threat is that? Is this how the Qur'an tells us to act?
Sorry, I don't see the world in black and white like you do Ahmed. There are shades of grey. Just because I think you are rude doesn't mean I side with "an enemy of Islam." I am entitled to question enquirer's tone/methods as well as yours. Unlike you, I don't see everyone through the lens of believer/disbeliever. I look at the message and not the messenger.
Finally, even if you have such a huge problem with what I have said, are you really supposed to react that harshly/negatively? resort to threats?
4134 "Not equal are the good and the bad response. You shall resort to the one which is better. Thus, the one who used to be your enemy, may become your best friend."
Peace.

Peace Ahmed. The above is exactly what I'm talking about. I have expressed my opinion and I am entitled to that.
Hi and what i said above is exactly what I'm talking about and I'm entitled to defend myself against the pepetrators
I value you as a member of this forum.
accompanied with rudenss?, well thanks but you can keep your opinion about me to yourself
You do have a lot of knowledge of the Qur'an and Arabic and I appreciate that.
oh thanks but again if accompanied by rudness, i don't want this appreciation, i prefer that you ignore me better
To be honest though, I think you tend to be abrasive and you engage in debating methods that leave a lot to be desired (this is my opinion).
as i said many times, i'm here to debate, not to make friends, and sure i'm one hell of a debater, i'm not here to preach the Quran
If I talk ill about you again, I "have to carry the consequences of my BS?" What kind of thinly veiled threat is that? Is this how the Qur'an tells us to act?
Yeh I expected the weak will come and say are you threatening me?, lol this is funny indeed
my battle with the perpetrators will be the free mind battle field i. bloody e., it is not like I will strap a bomb on me and kill the both of us, but what i meant with the consequnces that I will hunt for your fallacies in here and expose it, something i'm not intersted to do really, it is up to you at the end of the day
Sorry, I don't see the world in black and white like you do Ahmed.
wrong guess
i see the world red and yellow not black and white
There are shades of grey.
I didn't see grey in the red and yellow but I saw orange
Just because I think you are rude doesn't mean I side with "an enemy of Islam."
fine and I'm sure that you are full of crap and non sense
I am entitled to question enquirer's tone/methods as well as yours.
but if you insult me then you have to carry the consequences
Unlike you, I don't see everyone through the lens of believer/disbeliever. I look at the message and not the messenger.
LOL, that was funny, thanks for the laugh especially the last bit about the message and messenger, it sounded very funny )
Finally, even if you have such a huge problem with what I have said, are you really supposed to react that harshly/negatively? resort to threats?
LOL, far out bro, are you on drugs or somethin?
it is like you are asking to insult others then asking them to defend themselves the way you want it, haha it seems you are high now
4134 "Not equal are the good and the bad response. You shall resort to the one which is better. Thus, the one who used to be your enemy, may become your best friend."
Peace.
why not implementing this verse yourself instead of calling me rude?
are you a clear cut hypocrite, or just hypocrite?

Peace Ahmed
Hopefully this bad blood between us settles and we can one day discuss things in a more fruitful manner. God knows best. Peace.

Peace darbari. Those are not contradictions?...ok.....if you want
to explain why these are not contradictions,im happy to listen to your account....I have now explained in detail in my posts why i dont agree with them,as they are inconsistent in the 'modern age' to always take literally, and they dont agree with my morality when taken literally...
And remind me of your explanations that you want me to address, please? This one http//www.free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=5550.msg82615#msg82615 ? the only one that I had explained .

Enquirer peace mquran. Ok,yes i find hand-chopping harmful in todays society, when jails, rehabilitation, social study etc.. is possible and available.(not that it was totally un-available in the past, necessarily.)
I see. So your criteria for the 'harmfulness' of hand-chopping is relative to what is being done TODAY. Can you please tell me, what is your criteria for your choosing 'jails, rehab, social study' etc ? Can you define a standard by which we can tell which response is most effective?
Yes,i do recognise the 'possibility' of quran being the word of god,i have clarified many times that if interpreted properly,it can be a great source/help in guidance...
Good. That's very open-minded of you
If it is to be regarded as guidance for 'all times',then the interpretations definately have to be updated and cater for the modern context.(with the literalism and previous translations, sometimes sorely lacking, and impractical, inhumane.)
Can you give me an example of this of how
- certain interpretations have worked in the past
- vis-a-vis (1) above, how this update can be made to take place.
Please give an example of 'lacking, impractical and humane' and name the criteria by which you have given your example.
I also dont believe its necessary for our salvation,as the universal laws are available elsewhere..(i know you havent claimed its necessary for salvation,im just clarifying a point.).
Universal laws , by which I understand as the eternal truths governing the being of humankind can be found through empirical observation as well as rational deduction. The problem I'm asserting to yourself and Danish are the limitations of such an epistemology (the parameters by which we accept something as 'information'.
I shall give you an example. During the Hobbesian period of political thought, it was thought that the White Man was superior to the Afro-man. The reason for this is that by observation, the White Man had colonised and enslaved the Black-man. No less than certain American presidents thought that the Afroman was only 3/5'ths human.
Consider this example above to be a hypothetical one for now (to avoid pedantic and distracting conversations about it). What can we deduce from the above
-
The formulation of natural universal law is limited by mankind's capacity to observe, namely the space-time limitation.
-
Mankind has always a tendency to be biased in his observation.
The afro-man could easily say, this is the universal law that the chosen ones of God have to suffer before achieving heavenly bliss. How are we to contradict him?
peace all ps;yes, its good to talk. pps; ive just read your last post...i can appreciate and tone down my tone when adressing peoples sensitive beliefs..you are right...i suggest you can do the same...
Suggestion accepted. I also suggest you concentrate on substantiation. Sorry if you take this offensively but it has to be said Sir, you have exhibited a lack of grounding in Quranic concepts. I say this without any malice. This in itself is not a bad thing. We can always learn when we don't know. It's when we think we know but we really don't, that's where the problems occur.
I am a human being like yourself. I have to consider my existential reality as a human being just like yourself when I adopt an ideology. I chose al-quraan not because it was my starting position (I am from a 'muslim' background) but because its concepts give the potential for me to elevate myself as a human being. If you believe this, then we have a basis for a productive discussion.
