Can someone recommend a good biography of the Prophet Muhammad please?
-
Salaam all,
If anyone here would be so kind to recommend a good biography of the Prophet Muhammad, I would really appreciate it. However, before anyone replies please keep in mind that I have done a few searches before (on Amazon) and found different biographies written by Muslims and non-Muslims which both got a mix of reviews. Also, please keep in mind that I am not interested in the hadith and so will not be interested in any biographies that mention "splitting the moon" or advocating death and destruction in the name of Islam. Last of all; let me know if you have read what you recommend yourself and what you really thought about it.
Peace to all,
Stitch
If you believe in Quran only, then how are you going to believe the biography? and what is the need to read biography when you say that all the Muhammad (SAW) did is aleady in quran. How will you rely on the sayings of the author of biography when that has the same value as ahadith(which you say are written by people).
Please answer me so that I can know the point of view.
Sincerely,

Peace,
I know it is not directed to me VE, but there is a big difference as seeing the reports on Muhammed as history or as required source next to the Quran. As the Quran says no law for Deen may exist besides it, so all the Hadith that contain laws as part of the Deen are fake, and what is left should be treated as wisdom and history, which are both time-related and influenced by people who reported the history, as they chose what to write down.

Influenced by history? and when issue of ahadith's comes then no influence. Most of ahadith just tell the common manners about our daily life (there is not Faith related part in that), but all ahadith are rejected. Moreover Ahadith are generally of following types
Ahadith detailing about Faith in accordance to quranic verses
Ahadith detailing about daily life matters in accordce to quranic verses
Ahadith detailing about social life matters in accordance to to quranic verses.Ahadith detailing about Faith in addition to quranic verses
Ahadith detailing about daily life matters in addition to quranic verses
Ahadith detailing about social life matters in addition to to quranic verses.Ahadith detailing about Faith NOTin accordance to quranic verses
Ahadith detailing about daily life matters NOT in accordce to quranic verses
Ahadith detailing about social life matters NOT in accordance to to quranic verses. But all are just treated equally by one stick..just to call it rubbish (Naoozubillah) and reject it.

Ahadith detailing about Faith in accordance to quranic verses
Ahadith detailing about daily life matters in accordce to quranic verses
Ahadith detailing about social life matters in accordance to to quranic verses.Quran is detailed enough, so need for those....
-
Indeed We had brought to them a Book distinct, replete with knowledge, and guidance and grace for men who believe.
-
Verily in their accounts is a lesson for men of wisdom. This is not a fictitious tale, but a verification of earlier Books, and a clear exposition of everything, and a guidance and grace for those who believe.
Ahadith detailing about Faith in addition to quranic verses
Ahadith detailing about daily life matters in addition to quranic verses
Ahadith detailing about social life matters in addition to to quranic verses.Goes against the Quran...
- That is how We have made for each apostle opponents, the satans among men and jinns, who inspire one another with deceitful talk. But if your Lord had willed they would not have done so. Pay no attention to them and to what they fabricate.
- Let those who do not believe in the life to come, listen to it and be pleased with it, and let them gain what they may gain.
- (Say) "Then should I seek the source of law elsewhere than God, when it is He who has revealed this Book to you, which distinctly explains everything?" Those to whom We have given the Book know it has been sent by your Lord in truth. So be not a sceptic.
- Perfected are the laws of your Lord in truth and justice, and there is no changing His laws. He is all-hearing and all-knowing.
Ahadith detailing about Faith NOTin accordance to quranic verses
Ahadith detailing about daily life matters NOT in accordce to quranic verses
Ahadith detailing about social life matters NOT in accordance to to quranic verses. No need to be bothered with........
My stick is the Quran........

Peace,
As I know the following verses
002.173
002.173 He hath only forbidden you dead meat, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and that on which any other name hath been invoked besides that of Allah. But if one is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits,- then is he guiltless. For Allah is Oft-forgiving Most Merciful.Al-Qur'an, 002.173 (Al-Baqara )
005.003
005.003 Forbidden to you (for food) are dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah; that which hath been killed by strangling, or by a violent blow, or by a headlong fall, or by being gored to death; that which hath been (partly) eaten by a wild animal; unless ye are able to slaughter it (in due form); that which is sacrificed on stone (altars); (forbidden) also is the division (of meat) by raffling with arrows that is impiety. This day have those who reject faith given up all hope of your religion yet fear them not but fear Me. This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion. But if any is forced by hunger, with no inclination to transgression, Allah is indeed Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.Al-Qur'an, 005.003 (Al-Maeda )
006.120
006.120 Eschew all sin, open or secret those who earn sin will get due recompense for their "earnings."Al-Qur'an, 006.120 (Al-Anaam )
016.115
016.115 He has only forbidden you dead meat, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and any (food) over which the name of other than Allah has been invoked. But if one is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits,- then Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.Al-Qur'an, 016.115 (An-Nahl )

Can you please tell me if a muslim want to eat insects then what is the guidance in quran
If he can not eat then explain from Quran.
If he can eat the please explain why anyone from free-minds not eating insects like chinese. It is not forbidden in the Quran, so you can eat it, as long it is not harmfull for your body. And how do you know some people on this forum do not eat insects? It is a cultural thing, and has nothing to do with if it is ok, why don't eat it....
- But those who disbelieve and deny Our revelations are residents of Hell. O believers, do not forbid the good things God has made lawful for you; and do not transgress. God does not love transgressors.
- Eat what is lawful and good of the provisions God has bestowed on you, and fear God in whom you believe.
Do not ask silly questions as the followers of Moses did, don't you learn from it? If God has wanted to tell you, He would have told us directly in the Quran. he only told the things that are clear and important to all people on earth. Local things as prohibition on certain plants, insects or fish, are because of experience, and don't need any clarification from God. Why doesn't God say, don't drink gasoline? Use your logic and don't be like the Isrealites.....
-
Remember, when Moses said to his people "God demands that you sacrifice a cow," they said "Are you making fun of us?" And he said "God forbid that I be of the ignorant."
-
"Call on your Lord for us," they said, "that He might inform us what kind she should be." "Neither old nor young, says God, but of age in between," answered Moses. "So do as you are bid."
-
"Call on your Lord," they said, "to tell us the colour of the cow." "God says," answered Moses, "a fawn coloured cow, rich yellow, well pleasing to the eye."
-
"Call on your Lord," they said, "to name its variety, as cows be all alike to us. If God wills we shall be guided aright."
-
And Moses said "He says it's a cow unyoked, nor worn out by ploughing or watering the fields, one in good shape with no mark or blemish." "Now have you brought us the truth," they said; and then, after wavering, they sacrificed the cow.
-
"We do not come down," (will the angels say) "but only by your Lord's command." To Him belongs whatever lies before us and behind us, and the space in between. Your Lord does not ever forget.
-
(Moses) replied "Knowledge of that is with my Lord (recorded) in the Book. My Lord neither errs nor forgets."
-

PeaceCertainly all people know gasoline is not to drink..
but in case of insects nobody scientifically prove about all insects, science is limited in this case,,,if you dont agree then see the people eating pork and being totally unaware (this was not discoved to be containgin such such diseases in old times). Well, pork is prohibitted exclusively,,,,what about other insects which have very severe hidden effects and people are just eating (like chinese). The matter is that
Certainly all people know gasoline is not to drink..
What about the things which are having hidden negetive effects even if they appear to be ok in eating.???So we get the guidelines from ahadiths as what animals despite the pig are haram,,,,then we further can define on those guidlines.
Got?

So we get the guidelines from ahadiths as what animals despite the pig are haram,,,,then we further can define on those guidlines. There are so much more food that is not included in the Hadith, there are a lot of fruits and other animals not mentioned in the Hadith that are harmfull. What about those then? We know not to eat those, through experience. How do we know not to eat certain parts of certain fish? Through experience. How do we know not to eat raw potatoes which were not around in Muhammed's time? Through experience. How do we know we can use injection-needles to give medicins? Through experience. How did we know how to get to the moon? Through experience. How do we know to cure diseases? Through experience. How do we know to build a car? Through experience. How do we know all these things and more? Because we used our God-given brain. The example you give is so pathetic. The Quran only gives prohibitions that are important on a large scale like pig-meat being exploited everywhere on earth, this cannot be compared to eating insects, which is a local custom in some countries. And which to eat and which not, is known through experience over time.

To answer your experience experiece vocals......
Why dont the non-muslims using this experience to avoid Haram things? why chinese are eating every living thing including insects, even scorpion and centipede?? Dont they have experience? dont they have science? Why non-muslims are eating snakes? Why koreans are eating dogs??? All these people have that general experience which is used to build car or helicopter. ;D ;D ;DThere are ruled defined in Ahadith, and in Fiqh through which we categorize the Halal and Haram animals.
But alas, you dont accept Ahadith and Fiqh.Sincerely,

Salam,
It is proven smoking is bad for you, but still people do it, it is also proven the Quran is the word of God, but alas people don't follow it. Your argument is weak, and you haven't answered my questions, how do we know what to eat and not to eat in the jungles? That is something you'll not find in Hadith. And dogs and snakes aren't unhealthy for you, and even if certain food does, people follow a lot of times things because of man-made dogma. Like the eating of snake is not because of delicacy, but because of dogma, believing you will get the power of the snake, which already goes against the Quran.

VirtualEyeI just want to read it out of curiosity. I also want to read the Old Testament and the New Testament too, in fact I like reading all sorts of books. God has blessed me with intelligence and abilities to ascertain the truth for myself, and I wish to use these blessings to learn and live a righteous life.
I would like to remind you of this beautiful verse from the Quran as I feel that it is important that we all keep it in mind -
Quran 16125 (Yusuf Ali translation)
Invite (all) to the Way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious for thy Lord knoweth best, who have strayed from His Path, and who receive guidance.Peace,

Hello,
Yes really beautiful verse.
I just wondered one thing,,,if you cant rely on ahadith which were noted by Muslims scholars, then how will you rely on the old testament and new testament which even contains more contradictions and is the modifiction of the satanic people (verses changers for money) ???

I won't rely on anything. I just want to read it for the sake of reading it. If it is full of contradictions, then I will ascertain that for myself with the intelligence God gave me.
