      1. That is for those who feared the unseen consequences of their denial of the DIVINE LAW. They trembled at the very thought of the coming revolution.

      2. Now this Quran, WHICH IS A DIVINE CODE OF LAWS, has been revealed by Us and it stands surety to the pleasures of life. Will you even reject this?

      I was reading through the beautiful compilation of the verses while I compared the translations you have quoted with the five widely followed translations. I must say that the translations from GM PERVAIZ seem to be very different. I am not an arabic speaking person but I did not find the words "pleasures of life" in any other translations of 2150.

      021.049
      Allatheena yakhshawna rabbahum bialghaybi wahum mina alssaAAati mushfiqoona
      YUSUFALI Those who fear their Lord in their most secret thoughts, and who hold the Hour (of Judgment) in awe.
      PICKTHAL Those who fear their Lord in secret and who dread the Hour (of doom).
      SHAKIR (For) those who fear their Lord in secret and they are fearful of the hour.
      KHALIFA The ones who reverence their Lord, even when alone in their privacy, and they worry about the Hour.
      FREEMINDS Those who reverence their Lord, even when unseen, and they are weary for the Hour.

      021.050
      Wahatha thikrun mubarakun anzalnahu afaantum lahu munkiroona
      YUSUFALI And this is a blessed Message which We have sent down will ye then reject it?
      PICKTHAL This is a blessed Reminder that we have revealed Will ye then reject it?
      SHAKIR And this is a blessed Reminder which We have revealed; will you then deny it?
      KHALIFA This too is a blessed reminder that we sent down. Are you denying it?
      FRE MINDS And this is a blessed reminder which We have sent down. Will you be deniers of it?

        peace phoenix1,

        can you give me verses which confirm that the quran is the direct word of God and it is perfect?

        1. It is not fitting for a man THAT ALLAH SHOULD SPEAK TO HIM EXCEPT BY INSPIRATION, OR FROM BEHIND A VEIL, OR BY THE SENDING OF A MESSENGER TO REVEAL, with Allah's permission, what Allah wills for He is Most High, Most Wise.

        2. And thus have We, by Our Command, sent inspiration to thee thou knewest not (before) what was Revelation, and what was Faith; but We have made the (Qur'an) a Light, wherewith We guide such of Our servants as We will; and verily thou dost guide (men) to the Straight Way,-

        3. Lo! We inspire thee as We inspired Noah and the prophets after him, as We inspired Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the tribes, and Jesus and Job and Jonah and Aaron and Solomon, and as We imparted unto David the Psalms;

        4. And messengers We have mentioned unto thee before and messengers We have not mentioned unto thee; and Allah spake directly unto Moses;

        as you can see in verse 4251 it is said that "it is not fitting for a man that Allah should speak directly to him" so i dont know how to explain "the direct words of God".

        please also check 5029/1064/16101

        i hope that some other brothers/sisters at this forum answers your question in a much better way, as i myself am a bit confused on this issue ???.

        God bless you,
        peace.

            peace OracleMir,

            I was reading through the beautiful compilation of the verses while I compared the translations you have quoted with the five widely followed translations. I must say that the translations from GM PERVAIZ seem to be very different. I AM NOT AN ARABIC SPEAKING PERSON but I did not find the words "pleasures of life" in any other translations of 2150.

            Brother thank you very much for pointing it out , this is the problem every non-Arabic speaker has to face while trying to understand the book. We have to depend upon the translation only, and they have lots of different variants, which are not only confusing but at times make you skeptical also.

            I started reading quran in Urdu, which is our national language I faced the same problem.

            What you are doing is the only way for people like us to get a clear picture. I have downloaded almost every translation I could find on the Internet and then I compare the verses under discussion, I also try and check them in Urdu translations that I have and then go with what the majority agrees upon. That is the only way for people like us to see a clear picture.

            If you see the translations, which were done before the 80s and compare them with the translations, which were done after the 80s, you will note that the recent translators have translated/interpreted many verses in complete contrast to the past scholars. Not only in words but in essence too.
            So all I can say is ?God knows best?.

            here are translations of the same verses by some of the other scholars

            021049
            Those who fear their Lord without seeing Him, while they are afraid of the Hour. Khan

            Who fear their Lord in secret and they are fearful of the Hour. Maulana

            who fear their unseen Lord and are anxious about the Day of Judgment. Sarwar

            Those who fear their Lord in secret, and who dread the Hour of judgment. Sherali

            Those who fear their Lord in their most secret thoughts, and who hold the Hour (of Judgment) in awe. Yusufali

            021050
            And this is a blessed Reminder (the Qur'an) which We have sent down, will you then (dare to) deny it? Khan

            And this is a blessed Reminder, which We have revealed. Will you then deny it? Maulana

            This (Quran) which We have revealed is a blessed reminder. Will you then deny it? Sarwar

            And this Qur'an which WE have sent down is a blessed Reminder; will you then reject it? Sherali

            And this is a blessed Message which We have sent down will ye then reject it? Yusufali

            the mir in your id suggest that may be you can read urdu too

            <> <>
            fateh muhammed

              Thanks for the detailed reply.

              Yes you right agent. I can understand urdu. This is my mother tongue as well.

              I agree with you that non-arabic students of Quran have to go through extra efforts to gain understanding. My sincere thanks to arabic speaking users in this forum who have helped me a lot.

              I have seen translators putting their extra 2 cents in the translations and hence making them interpretations rather than pure translations. For example Molana Maudodi has translated "azwaaj" as "females" rather than "spouses". I have been burned by these interpretators in the past. I tried coming close to Quran but then after reading these so called translations I was repelled away. But when I made my second attempt after few years, I was felt so much attraction in this book that I could have never imagined. Pure translation is what we need.

              You are certainly doing a great job in analyzing the book by themes!

                sorry to disagree with you brother, please check 3306 where he translates azwaaj as spouses. The English translation of maudodi that I have got is not complete, only first 24 chapters, so I couldn?t post the verse.

                Pure translation is what we need.

                Yes indeed, but the problem is, which translation is considered pure?
                You know what? Amongst the Urdu translations i think moudodi's translation is easy. Also fateh muhammed's.

                You are certainly doing a great job in analyzing the book by themes!

                Thanks brother, please check this link, it has two Urdu translations and 4 English.

                  Maudodi has translated "azwajun mutahharatun" in 225 to "pak beebyaan" in his urdu translation. I have seen printed copies. "pak beebyaan" means pure female companions, while "azwajun mutahharatun" means pure spouses.

                  Good to know that he has translated it correctly in English translations.

                  02.025
                  Wabashshiri allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati anna lahum jannatin tajree min tahtiha al-anharu kullama ruziqoo minha min thamaratin rizqan qaloo hatha allathee ruziqna min qablu waotoo bihi mutashabihan walahum feeha azwajun mutahharatun wahum feeha khalidoona
                  YUSUFALI But give glad tidings to those who believe and work righteousness, that their portion is Gardens, beneath which rivers flow. Every time they are fed with fruits therefrom, they say "Why, this is what we were fed with before," for they are given things in similitude; and they have therein companions pure (and holy); and they abide therein (for ever).
                  PICKTHAL And give glad tidings (O Muhammad) unto those who believe and do good works; that theirs are Gardens underneath which rivers flow; as often as they are regaled with food of the fruit thereof, they say this is what was given us aforetime; and it is given to them in resemblance. There for them are pure companions; there for ever they abide.
                  SHAKIR And convey good news to those who believe and do good deeds, that they shall have gardens in which rivers flow; whenever they shall be given a portion of the fruit thereof, they shall say This is what was given to us before; and they shall be given the like of it, and they shall have pure mates in them, and in them, they shall abide.
                  KHALIFA Give good news to those who believe and lead a righteous life that they will have gardens with flowing streams. When provided with a provision of fruits therein, they will say, "This is what was provided for us previously." Thus, they are given allegorical descriptions. They will have pure spouses therein, and they abide therein forever.

                    The translation of Moudodi?s ?TAHFEEM UL QURAN? in English is done by ?Zafar Ansari?

                    I have this verse 225 in front of me and it says

                      You said beveyain = spouse. Is that the literal meaning in urdu lughat (dictionary)? Because I have been speaking urdu through out my life and to me

                      bivi=wife (singular)
                      beveyain=wives (plural)
                      shoher= husband (both singular and plural)
                      jorha=couple (singular)
                      jorhe=couples (plural)
                      saathi=partner (both singular and plura)

                      To me "beveyain" is not equal to "spouses". In fact it would look wierd if we use "beveyain" for spouses in urdu.

                      This is what we use in common language. Perhaps I am unaware if bivi also means spouse in Urdu dictionary. Is that what you are saying?

                      Also the translation has used the word "beveyain" in feminine context "beveyain hoen gi". If the translator had meant spouses then he had used a mascular context "beveyain hoon gay". What do you think?

                        beveyain = wives
                        but since spouse can also mean a wife too i used this word keeping only this meaning in mind...i think i have completely misunderstood you, my apology bro -[.

                        Maudodi has translated "azwajun mutahharatun" in 225 to "pak beebyaan" in his urdu translation. I have seen printed copies. "pak beebyaan" means pure female companions, while "azwajun mutahharatun" means pure spouses.

                        in you above comment i thought your objection is that instead of pure female companions it should have been pure spouses i.e. wives.

                        Also the translation has used the word "beveyain" in feminine context "beveyain hoen gi". If the translator had meant spouses then he had used a mascular context "beveyain hoon gay". What do you think?

                        this has made it clear what you actually meant,

                            as you can see in verse 4251 it is said that "it is not fitting for a man that Allah should speak directly to him" so i dont know how to explain "the direct words of God".

                            Im not really puzzled by this at all. Ofcourse were told that something called a malakat is send with the message. However if you look at the example of Abraham, he realised himself the truth, and then he got strengthened in his faith and ways, and started preaching. Properbly wrote a book too, inspired by the reasoning handed to him. God speaking is not booming voices from the sky and angels with trumpets and white light. It is very subtle, but becomes glowing in neon when you notice it, and it is for everybody. The prophets didnt say, listen to this alone, they said, be me and you will witness youself what im trying to tell you. Ofcourse takes this to great lengths and dress up like alladin etc.

                            I like tay's argument that malakat is good intentions, because if we look at the legends for a second, were told that whatever the malakat that God sends is called Gabriel. In hebrew this means "God is my strength". Could it be that the malakat is indeed good intention, and not only that, it is God is my strength, or the holy spirit as a fellow believing community calls it.

                            If this the case, you yourself have to be open to it (prayer, meditation, purifying what you have by sharing in the community, good deeds to purify your mind). If you are driven by ego and ill intentions, how can any good intentions make their way to you? )

                            But i admit where im very clear on what the meaning of "Gods words" are, im unsure what angels are. The legends doesnt make sense, and the Quran is awfully quiet about their excact nature.

                                peace Magi,

                                However if you look at the example of Abraham, he realised himself the truth, and then he got strengthened in his faith and ways, and started preaching.

                                young brother i agree with you )

                                I like tay's argument that malakat is good intentions,

                                good intentions with two two, four four wings , though i have not read tay's defination but it seems reasonable and there are lots of people who support this argument )

                                yep )

                                  Does the quran say anywhere that it is the direct word of God?
                                  just a question. I am not starting an argument.

                                    1. And this is a blessed Reminder which We have revealed; will you then deny it?

                                    2. When before it there was THE SCRIPTURE OF MOSES, an example and a mercy; and THIS IS A CONFIRMING SCRIPTURE IN THE ARABIC LANGUAGE, that it may warn those who do wrong and bring good tidings for the righteous.

                                    3 2. Allah, (there is) no god but He, the Everliving, the Self-subsisting by Whom all things subsist
                                    3 3. He has revealed to you the Book with truth, verifying that which is before it, and He revealed the Tavrat and the Injeel aforetime, a guidance for the people, and He sent the Furqan.

                                    peace

                                          Peace All

                                          The 2 threads "What is Quraan according to Quraan? and "How did you reach your certitude about the Quraan? arediscussing almost similar issues (At least currently).

                                          I thought the following verses will be important for this discussion Mainly because there were questions such as "Is it directly Gods words" and "Did you see Gods signature in it".

                                          Although there is no signature there are witnesses just like the Quraan advises man
                                          to have 2 witnesses for important documents and transactions.

                                          4 163 We have sent thee inspiration as We sent it to Noah and the Messengers
                                          after him; We sent inspiration to Abraham Ismail Isaac Jacob and the Tribes to Jesus Job Jonah Aaron and Solomon and to David We gave the Psalms.

                                          4 164 Of some Apostles We have already told thee the story; of
                                          others We have not; and to Moses Allah spoke direct.

                                          4 165 Apostles who gave good news as well as warning that mankind
                                          after (the coming) of the Apostles should have no plea against Allah for Allah is Exalted in Power Wise

                                          4 166 But Allah beareth witness that what He hath sent unto
                                          thee He hath sent from His (Own) Knowledge and the angels bear witness but enough is Allah for a Witness.

                                          Also

                                          It is certain some people will not believe under whatever circumstances. Some of them want to see God or God has to speak to them directly or they want to know whether God spoke to the messenger directly or an angel to come as messenger instead of a man or a book to descend from the sky. Rest assured, none of this is going to happen. There are many verses which explain this fact clearly for a person who cares to read the Quraan thoroughly (not just a few verses) and many times. We must read and then reflect.

                                          6 35 If their spurning is hard on thy mind yet if thou wert able to seek a
                                          tunnel in the ground or a ladder to the skies and bring them a Sign (what good?).
                                          If it were Allah's will He could gather them together unto true guidance so be not thou amongst those who are swayed by ignorance (and impatience)!

                                          17 93 "Or thou have a house adorned with gold or thou mount a
                                          ladder right into the skies. No we shall not even believe in thy mounting until thou send down to us a book that we could read." Say "Glory to my Lord! am I aught but a man an apostle?"

                                          1794 What kept men back from Belief when Guidance came to them
                                          was nothing but this they said "Has Allah sent a man like us) to be(His)Apostle?"
