Sudan Politician Supports \"God Alone\"

I wouldnt take it for truth until I actually meet the guy. It's easy for news to be misinterpreted.
As for Ahmed Deedat, can you prove he was Quranic ? Would a Quranic guy write a book called 'Muhammad The Greatest'?
Yeah I was wondering the same thing. Long ago, I read a lot of Deedat's stuff and I don't recall him subscribing to the Qur'an alone.

I was reading the recent controvercies regarding Sudan's top politician "Dr. Hasan Al-Turabi" who has been making statements supporting Islam based on the Scripture and nothing else.
Dr. Turabi has stated that Jesus will not return, the major signs of j-day mentioned in the Hadith are fabrications, women do not need to wear a headscarf, the testimony of a woman is equal to that of a man, the Quran cannot be abrogated, etc..
Some highlights of his speech were published in the Arab newspaper "Al-Sharq Al-Awsaat" dated today.
I saw Dr. Turabi on TV (MBC Arabic channel) about a week ago and everything that he said was based on the great reading. He also made thinly veiled attacks on Hadith. I also noticed that he used linguistic arguments to squrely defeat traditionalist arguments that the word "hijab" in 3353 refers to a head dress. All in all, I was very impressed with what I heard from him. Given the level that he reached in his understanding, I am pretty sure that applying the same logic to other issues, he probably has other non-traditional views that are even more shocking to Sunnis but he is not sharing them at this stage.
Unfortunately, MBC didn't show the whole interview but just a 3 minute snippets of it. Of course, right afterwards they showed a Sunni sheikh to personally attack Dr. Turabi without addressing any of what he said and offering as only proof of the traditions the "ijma3" (popularity) among the masses and the scholars.

The problem is, when you're a politician, you have to appease your electorate. Otherwise, you won't get voted into power. The same works both ways. Nationalist 'muslim' governments employ 'liberal shiekhs' to disempower the Islamists. If Dr Turabi really is Quranic, I pity the secrecy he has to protect. It's difficult to pretend to be someone you're not.

I guess being a politician who adheres to God Alone in an "Islamic" country is quite a difficult situation. Hopefully though, there will be others like Dr Turabi who express their views (though not all of them) publicly. It seems quite impossible at this stage, but who knows? Perhaps Indonesia will experience something similar soon enough ;D ;D

Adley, it's great to have support, sure but you must remember how politics generally works in the world. I used to believe and hope in Dr M , former Malaysian PM as Quranic and in many ways, what is written about him shows it. Sadly, for whatever reason, he didn't come through and allowed the 'quranists' to practise and preach freely. We can give all the reasons but this is the reality. The best thing is to ignore politics and focus on ad-deen.
My humble suggestion don't wait. Al-quraan never limited itself to politicians but to all humankind. Take it and act upon it as best you can. Who knows, maybe YOU could replace the present power structure.

Yes, a friend told me also about Dr M and I was quite surprised too. I mean he's famous her. ;D
Well, I with some friends are starting to spread the message of God Alone, especially to those that are not satisfied with the Islam that my country accepts it. But, politics or powers may not be suitable for me; I'm not strong enough. ;D ;D ;D
