I knew a guy who had 2 as pets. Small intelligent and very cleanly little fellows. If you dont stress pigs they are very clean animals, but if stressed their behaviour becomes (by pig standards) insane. I would like one as a pet aswell, but their level of "intelligence" given, and need for social contact, they are very time consuming animal companions to have. Ifyou win the companionship of a pig it is as loving as a dog, but much brighter. If you have a boar for animal companion, you have a pretty effective guard of your dwelling place aswell, there is just no arguing with 400kg of angry animal ;D

Meats, all kinds of meats, are actually toxic to the human body as our digestive system is not built for meat consumption. It takes a long time for food to go through our digestive system and therefore meat, which is deteriorating much faster than fruits and vegetables, actually is decaying too fast on the way through our system.

      Salaam Ali,

I disagree with that statement, according to this site God designed our bodies to eat meat, I wouldn't normally believe it but they have heaps of evidence to prove it.

I have actually thought about becoming a Nutritionist, I've read lodes of articles and books about Nutrition but they all seem to contradict each other badly. ???

      Peace,
      Sugar

        Hi sugar,

Foodstuff is, of course, huge business and therefore the economical interests involved are also extremely large.
Objective truth has a tendency to be in reverse ratio to the amount of money involved, i.e. the larger the economical interest involved, the less objective the statements. -\

If we were carnivorous creatures, why do we prepare the meat before consuming it?
I have not seen any other carnivorous creatures doing this?
However, our digestive systems have no problem consuming fruits and vegetables in their original state.
We can eat, and survive, on raw meat as well, but our systems are not specialized for that kind of consumption, and we may therefore have some problems digesting raw meat which we do not have with vegetarian products.

It is true that meat is a very good source of proteins, vitamins and minerals, and a strict vegan diet should be accompanied by additions of a few vitamins and minerals, or one should at least be aware of it.
But, if you see nutritional advisors, they often ask you to consume five-a-day, not burgers mind you ;D, but vegetable/fruit servings. How come, if we are carnivorous creatures? I do not see other carnivorous creatures having the same needs?

If you are aiming at becoming a nutritionist, Im sure you will find information on this from reliable, unbiased, sources. I am a vegetarian myself, although not a fanatic, but may anyhow be unintentionally biased.

It would be advisable to study the differences in digestive systems among various creatures, and you will find some obvious facts that can not be overlooked, and also that many of the differences are closely related to the food the various creatures consume.

It is also a fact that it is possible to mummify meat, for instance a human body. One step in mummification is to dehydrate the body, i.e. to drain out all liquids from it. Preferably, no blood should remain. This is in order to substantially slow down the decay.

Compare this to what the quran says about consumption of running blood. Most people take this to mean that blood contained in meat after slaughter is OK, but actually blood is vastly enhancing decay of meat, whether it is contained in small veins or larger ones.
What the quran is actually telling us is Do not consume raw meat (or raw blood).(deduced meaning)
We can, however, manage to survive on this also, but it should not be done unless it is the only option besides death through starvation, because we are not built for it.

        Regds

        Ali

Compare this to what the quran says about consumption of ?running blood?. Most people take this to mean that blood contained in meat after slaughter is OK, but actually blood is vastly enhancing decay of meat, whether it is contained in small veins or larger ones.
What the quran is actually telling us is ?Do not consume raw meat (or raw blood)?.(deduced meaning)

          Salaam Ali,

All meat no matter how many times you wash it has blood on it )

I did think that blood trapped in the meat was no big deal, IMO it?s nit-picking and going OTT, I don?t take it literally because I don?t believe God expects us to, it kinda reminds me of the dress code commandment coz there is a verse which say?s ?you must only show what?s necessary? strictly speaking you only really need to show one eye innit? lol

There?s even a verse in the Quran which tells us not to transgress the limits.

My family are Orthodox Muslims so they buy the so-called ?halal meat?. We have 3 ?Halal butchers? in our town and all three sell expensive, extremely bad quality meat coz they know that the ?Muslims? won?t buy it from any where else, I personally don?t believe the hygiene standards are not that good either. -X

However I don?t particularly like the taste of meat anyway.

          Peace,
          Sugar

I read an article in the Revival magazine which said that pigs were the only animals to allow their wives to have sex with other men in front of them. And it claimed that pork consumptions in India is high and they are starting to do the same thing, especially in Bombay. The article blamed the consumption of pig meat for the immoral behavior. It was a good article in general but that claim was just OTT.

            Peace,

All meat no matter how many times you wash it has blood on it

Well, maybe the qur?an is telling us to avoid eating it raw then?

Allow me to be somewhat reserved as to the scientific research behind the article you mentioned in the Revival magazine.
But anyway, some say that to be happy and laughing is less stressful than to be unhappy and angry and therefore better for your health, so I thank you for mentioning some excerpts from their article, my health must have improved. I am still enjoying your post immensely. rotfl

                        Dear tanveermd,

Thank you for an enlightening link into the mysteries of pork and alcohol.
                        The findings are revolutionary! bravo

Cease the pork consumption and Alcoholics, Liver Cirrhosis, Liver Cancer and Multiple Sclerosis disappear!

                        Wow! yay

Lets look at the table comparing pork consumption with number of alcoholics.

From Saskatchewan right down to Newfoundland the trend seems to be opposite of the main conclusion, it seems that the more pork you eat the lower the number of alcoholics.
In Newfoundland the pork consumption is abt. the double as compared to Nova Scotia but the number of alcoholics is almost the same.

The report concludes that there is a clear correlation between the alcohol and pork consumption. rotfl

                        Liver Cirrhosis

Alcohol consumption shows relatively small variations.

Nova Scotia has slightly lower alcohol consumption than Prince Edward Island and substantially lower pork consumption but has almost double the cases of Liver Cirrhosis.
If we compare Saskatchewan and New Brunswick with Prince Edward Island the cases of Cirrhosis are more than double whereas alcohol and pork consumption is much lower.

The report concludes that there is a clear correlation between Cirrhosis and pork consumption. rotfl

                        Liver cancer

Hungary and Switzerland have practically the same pork consumption and close to the same alcohol and wine consumption, still Hungary has substantially higher mortality rate due to liver cancer.

Canada and Finland have almost similar consumption of alcohol, wine and pork, but Finland has more than double the number of mortalities due to liver cancer.

Sweden has almost three times higher pork consumption than New Zealand, a little bit higher wine consumption but a bit lower alcohol consumption, however, mortality rate due to liver cancer is exactly the same.

The report concludes that both alcohol and pork are associated with the risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma. rotfl

Since both alcohol and pork are associated let us then look at the correlation between pork consumption and liver cancer, and alcohol consumption and liver cancer separately

US and Canada has a little bit higher pork consumption than Yugoslavia, but Yugoslavia has five times higher mortality rate due to liver cancer than US and Canada.

Czechoslovakia and France have only a little bit higher pork consumption than US and Canada, but almost five times higher mortality rate due to liver cancer.

Germany has the absolute highest pork consumption but has a lover mortality rate, due to liver cancer, than 7 of the 18 countries included in the survey.

Let us look at alcohol and liver cancer

Only Norway and UK has slightly lower alcohol consumption than Poland but still Poland has three times higher mortality rate due to liver cancer.
I.e. Poland has the lowest alcohol consumption of the remaining countries but has the highest mortality rate due to liver cancer.

There are many more peculiarities contradicting any conclusion based on the reported research. I therefore think it is highly advisable for the individuals behind this product, to go back to the universities (if they ever visited one in the first place) and ask for their fees to be returned to them. They seem to have been subjected to a somewhat substandard education, or maybe they have not been exposed to the techniques of research? confused

                            Hi,

I know that sometimes I come through as arrogant. When I come across a totally baseless conclusion, claiming to be the result of scientific research, I sometimes do not treat it lightly. The Internet is swarming with these kinds of reports. It seems especially to be the case within religious matters, or other areas of mysticism. confused

Maybe, as I have ?lived a while? and been involved in a few research projects, I get somewhat upset when I see such totally baseless conclusions as in this case. They just have not done even their most basic homework, and still try to pass it off as serious research.
I will try to control myself, but I can not guarantee it. ;D

Just for the record, I do not defend pork, or any other kind of meat, in any way, but I do defend seriousness.

I know that many educational institutions are not preparing their students adequately for real life, but most have some kind of projects helping you to gain experience in planning, research and presentation of results based on evidence, or solutions, you seem to have found during the project studies.
If you have not had that kind of experience during your school studies, you may meet situations in real life that requires you to make decisions based on your own findings, and make the mistakes in real life instead of under a monitored environment such as an educational institution.

The report presented here is a typical example of mistakes made due to lack of proper training.

                                Dear sugar,

Well, I am probably amongst the ?elders? on this site, and has left my normal working life behind.

Research is most of the time tedious, ?boring?, work. What I have been involved in is mainly connected to magnetism, electricity and optics in general. It is actually a fairly wide range of fields. But the more interesting part is actually engineering.

Mind you, my work was not revolutionary in any way, quite ordinary actually, but some of it contributed to new and, I like to think, better solutions.
However, I would rather not go into details on an open forum, as non-disclosure agreements are relatively stringent, and I believe it would not be of much general interest anyway.
