That?s in interesting translation of that verse, I haven?t come across any other translation like that before, who translated that verse?
I always thought the Quran had one fixed meaning;
He sent down to you this scripture, containing straightforward verses - which constitute the essence of the scripture - as well as multiple-meaning or allegorical verses. Those who harbor doubts in their hearts will pursue the multiple-meaning verses to create confusion, and to extricate a certain meaning. None knows the true meaning thereof except GOD and those well founded in knowledge. They say, "We believe in this - all of it comes from our Lord." Only those who possess intelligence will take heed.
Lol this reminds me of the time when my dad quoted a hadith which said 1 verse of the Quran has that many meanings to it that it would take 10 camels to carry the amount paper needed to explain that 1 verse. Lol now that?s going waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to0 far. ;D ;D ;D

Both Ahmed Ali and Dr.Shabbir Ahmed refer to this, but this recorded in the Arab-dictionary from TAJ, so it is based on clear language meaning. And so that verse must be translated like this, as mahjoor has 3 important uses to abondone/leave, to avoid, to fetter/chain.
So the verse would read like this
The prophet will say "O my Lord, my people has abondend the Quran, treated it as something to be avoided and has fettered/chained/fixed (the understandings) of the Qur'an." (2530)
This is not about multiple meanings as you imply in the verse given, which is also translated wrong. This is about the multiple meanings of words. As mahjoor means all 3 things, then all 3 things are meant here, as they all fit perfectly. This is the best way to translate and understand the Quran.
The verse you refer to, talks about the the difference between the clear out verses and the symbolic verses. The verse i give above is clear, as it is not about the symbolic language used, but just clear-out translating.

But those who are twisted of mind look for verses metaphorical, seeking deviation and giving to them interpretations of their own; but none knows their meaning except God; and those who are steeped in knowledge affirm "We believe in them as all of them are from the Lord." i have the same dillemma as you. I still read Rashad's translation knowing it has many errors, I just like the simple English (like you) But I always use logic and compare different translations to make sure this or that verse is translated correctly.
The exercise I use is ignore all the footnotes, and ignore anything in parentheses unless it coincides with the context of the verse, to my understanding. I really wish people would just translate the Quran, and not put anything in the parentheses.
