Oh, just like to add the following thoughts

-chapter 107 shows that 'al-musalleen' who do not do certain things (107/1-2) are told 'woe' by God. So salaat isnt the end of the matter.

-some ppl's salaat are for opposition (8/35).

    • the salaat of 'al-musyrikoon' like in 9/11 are not accompanied by belief (since etymologically, imaan and shirik are diametrical opposites, see 2/221). Therefore 'salaat' needn't be a 'spiritual' act.

Peace mquran. I agree, some salat is not beneficial,or leads to opposition towards reality...This is when one links/reaches out/connects/closely follows illusions, dogmas and falsehood, and neglects reality/truth...This illusionary kind of salat does not always lead to moral behaviour, and can create harm and irrationality...
Peace all. ps;what are your findings on the 'forms' you mentioned?

Well, to me, yusallu is to support something so as to induce a peaceful or safe state while yasiilu is to breach something. Therefore, to me the definite noun as-salaat must include activities which induce that peaceful state and is able to breach it stated goals.

835 does not show a negative use of "salat".

Its like saying "his charitableness was nothing but showing off", the word "charitableness" is positive but the context is pointing out not what is expected of "charitableness", i.e. doing it in a negative manner.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

I can't agree with your analogy of 'charitableness' because I think 'salla' by itself isn't 'good' or 'bad'. It's AS-salaat which is good. The 8/35 salla is one of slander and opposition with respect to God's system.

Well, we can agree with as-salaat being positive, but before we analyse 835 are you saying "slander" & "opposition" are the best translation. "Opposition" I dont have a problem with, but "slander"? The reason I ask this, is because slander isn't something you can pretend to do good/positively.

I'm afraid 'slander' is the best i have at present. Can you please suggest anything else?

                  peace mq,

I cannot verify "slander" for "mukaan". I checked my sources, they do not have that as a meaning and the root occurs only once so I cant do a contextual study either. Perhaps you can highlight why you chose "slander" over its other dictionary meanings?

                    Peace Elke,

There are two schools of meditations
One school which works on emptying soul of all thoughts and continue till IT HAPPENS. that is the school of ZEN.
The second school works on filling heart with LOVE and continue till IT HAPPENS. that is the school of SUFI's.

Choice between them depends on one's character. Try them both to see which type fits you best

the car needs to get parked first!

i have exactly the same understanding, this is why i adopted the two (and not three) salat understanding. i only really profit from my "salat sessions" (reciting and reading quran, talking to god, unfortunately i don't yet know how to meditate) when i get the right circonstances. Actually mostly fajr (with kids still asleep), maghreb being more difficult as there's too much motion around me )

But these are specific times. Salat, in another form where the 'obligation' sens its better, has to be upheld all the time to the best of our ability.

                        peace,

                        But isn't there another school of thought.....youve neglected;

School of Doing or action, rather then merely blowing the wind or something. -\ upon which are based all; that is all the nations successfull - in the world.

                        Salaams all.

Yes, nothing gets done without action, but before action comes REST. All things come from the state of No-Thing. The longest lasting successful nations all used meditation in thier spiritual cultivation. I am speaking of the Nile Valley civilizations most famous being Kemet (Egypt).

                              Peace brothers

Hey brothers what about these two signs in the reading?

The Message 1959. Then generations came after them who lost the SALAT, and followed the desires. They will find their consequences.

The Message 2530 And the messenger said ?My Lord, my people have deserted this Quran.??

I think the desertion of Quran in 2530 is the lost Salat in 1959.

                              What do you think?

                              God bless

Actually this is a prophecy That Muhammad's people would stray from his message....

He says this on the Day of Judgement. Though the 'losing the salat' is part of them deserting the message. In my view he says this when God tells him (on the day of judgement) how his people went stray.
