To forgive or not to forgive? That is the question!

Peace all. In my mind, forgiving people means not letting their potentially/practically harmful and/or disruptive behaviour, make me hate them...Hate to me,is a very destrutive emotion, and a potential enemy of mankind/righteous behaviour/a peaceful planet...
Peace all.ps;the payoff is peace. -

Peace Ammarb and Enquirer,

Peace all.ps;the payoff is peace.I agree with trying not to hate people. Hate is like fire. It destroys everthing in it's path. We are to try and obtain peace, but sometimes that is easier said than done.
I just think you should forgive because it makes u the bigger person ... It also makes u feel better in a way BUT if you dont want to speak to the person then fair enough but just forgive !! ;D
That seems to be the logical approach to the situation. Be the bigger or better person! Or could it be something else?
I use to think that God wanted us to forgive because it's the right thing to do. Or just because he told us to. Until I started reading this book on forgiveness that changed my whole view entirely.
I now know that it will grow you as a human being, not just so you can say, "Oh, I forgave you!" and relieve the person or persons that wronged you, but so you can obtain peace for yourself. It has nothing to do with these people, it's about you as an individual.
We carry around hurt from long ago. It affects our health, social life, and the way we view the world and the people we meet. What about the case of not forgiving ourselves. It is also self distructive and self defeating when we refuse to forgive ourselves. Sometimes we hurt ourselves even more by not letting go.
So many of us walk around with this pain and hurt and no one else knows that the hurt is going on inside you.
Some of us do not trust because of it. And are afraid of being hurt again so much that we can't go forward. It damages us, but only if we allow it. It may even blind and block you from the good of this world, such as, enjoying life, your kids an etc...
Now this is why I believe that God wants us to forgive. To unburden our hearts and mind. To be at peace with what we simple can not undo or change. And not forgiving can be used as a tool for satan to distract us from the here and now. We are in a constant mode of living in the past. Not to say I have forgiven everyone who has ever crossed me or that I have achived this higher place of "strength" as God The All Knowing, has put it. I believe I have a better understanding now and God willing it is a start. Ultimately, He will deal with those who have done wrong.
What do you think?
Thanks again,
shirley
P.s. I'm not one with the book yet. I have to put it down sometimes because it is quite confrontaional and tends to stir up emotions. I'll let you guys know if I've gain anymore insight.

peace all,
Anger makes you smaller, while forgiveness forces you to grow beyond what you were.
Forgiveness is the healing of wounds caused by another. You choose to let go of a past wrong and no longer be hurt by it. And It really doesn't matter if the person who hurt you deserves to be forgiven. Forgiveness is a gift you give yourself. You have things to do and you want to move on. it is a strong move to make, like turning your shoulders sideways to walk quickly on a crowded sidewalk. It's your move.
peace.

Peace agentxxx. Excellent post my friend... bravo

Peace to you all,
AgentXXX, you said it right. I see how it is so important to forgive. You might not be able to grow as much as you should if you don't. It's like trying to swim with 25lb weights around both ankles. Living life being bitter and resentful.

This is the reason why the wise one say
"Forgiveness is almost a selfish act because of its immense benefits to the one who forgives".shirley- Living life being bitter and resentful.
hate is a live coal in our heart - far more damaging to us than to those we hate.
God bless you all,
Peace.
