Duty towards parents?
-
asalamu alaykum all,
In general what are our duties as children to our parents? Is it just to obey them and not be harsh with them? Are we required to financially support them in their old age also? If parents commit a serious crime against their children, are the children allowed to get justice from the parents?

According to Qur'an we must take care of our parents financially like they did when to us when we were not have the ability to do so. Respect them not to be harsh with them. Be polite with them. Keep praying for them that Allah (SWT) shower His kindness and mercy on them as they did when we were young and weak.
There is only one condition we can disobey our present is not to listen to them if they ask to do the shirk or do not worship One God.
Based on my memory. Possibibilty of my human errors.
Sister Khadija. The only condition we are allow to disobey our parents.
298 We have enjoined on man kindness to parents but if they (either of them) strive (to force) thee to join with Me (in worship) anything of which thou hast no knowledge, obey them not. Ye have (all) to return to me, and I will tell you (the truth) of all that ye did.

Thanks. I know we are obligated to obey them, but what i mean is if the parents did a crime against a child, such as being involved in a murder of that child's family member, can the child get justice? I am reading this ayat, 4135, but am not sure if it's the right thing for this context.
O ye who believe! Be ye staunch in justice, witnesses for Allah, even though it be against yourselves or (your) parents or (your) kindred, whether (the case be of) a rich man or a poor man, for Allah is nearer unto both (them ye are). So follow not passion lest ye lapse (from truth) and if ye lapse or fall away, then lo! Allah is ever Informed of what ye do.

I really don't understand what you are saying. Crime against a child and murder? All the crimes if they commited are punishable according to prevailing law of the country where they live.
Parents can punish children which according to me is not a crime.

Sister
The murder punishment will be applied. We don't have the Qur'anic laws so the crime will be punishable according to the laws of the country where crime is commited.
Following are veres which you have to look and understand with this subject.
6151 Say "Come, I will rehearse what Allah hath (really) prohibited you from" Join not anything as equal with Him; be good to your parents; kill not your children on a plea of want;- We provide sustenance for you and for them;- come not nigh to shameful deeds. Whether open or secret; take not life, which Allah hath made sacred, except by way of justice and law thus doth He command you, that ye may learn wisdom.
1731 kill not your children for fear of want We shall provide sustenance for them as well as for you. Verily the killing of them is a great sin.

Salam Alaikom,
If the parents trying to make you leave Islam och doing things against Islam then I belive you should reject them like Noa.
Me myself I have major problems with my parents becouse they attacked Islam. They even went ashamed and angry when I named my son Mohammad. But thouse cases are not unusual with converts.

hmm that is so stressed... I know that you must obey your parents no matter what etc within the laws.. though what rights do children have?
some parents are strict and restrict their children is that justified as "obeying your parents" what if one wanted to do something that didn't breach the rules of islam would it be wrong if a parent said no and you still did it? if a child is obliged to follow their parents wishes above their own, is that just....just a thought
salam

What if your parents never actually did support you financially when you were a child? Are you still obligated to them in that way?
You're saying the only time a child can disobey a parent is if the parent is asking them to perform idol worship. So then, if a father commands his daughter to have sex with him, she's committing a sin if she refuses?
I have a serious problem with that.
EDIT someone PMed me, and explained that the definition of shirk is not the one that Wikipedia gave me. You can ignore my question.
