can we make up our own prayers?

peace
i dont think it matters as long as intentions are honorable, and it's devoted to God alone.
I use the 'sunni' positions and read the first chapter of the quran, and after that i just go with it.
So, IMHO you can make up your own prayers.
also you shouldn't say
"There is no God beside him"
You should say
"There is no God beside you."
It should be in first person point of view, since you are connecting with God.

Peace be upon yuo Alen,
The verses you provided are for the word "salaat", which is NOT prayer. Prayer is "du'a".

Respectfully.Okay, good to know.
I don't know any Arabic and the Bosnian translation of the Qur'an .... is .... well, needs to be checked out by a person whose maternal language is Arabic or a professor of Arabic language somewhere in Riyadh or Mecca.
I did find one thing in Bosnian translation of the Qur'an - it says to cut off the thief's hand. I always thought they translated it wrong. As salamu alakyum.

Selam all,
I don't think it is right to make our own prayers if it is that what you asked. I do not think the prayer should be done in any particular way. When one prays sincerely God knows that and I don't think God is asking for details of this foot or that hand over this hand and so on what He is asking is that we do sincerely pray to Him for whatever reason be it for forgiveness of the minor offences one has comitted recently and even for the ones one committed before or be it for whatever reason (including the blessing in this world and hereafter) bcoz God is merciful and knows when u really mean what you say. Imagine a scenarion when a person is in danger do you think he/she would go all the details to call God because otherwise He would not respond? No, I personally don't. Remember the aya where God said... "and if the believers call Me tell them I am near and answering thos who call Me" something like that. During those dificult times one sincerely prays and asks the Almighty to find for him/her a solution and, most often, when He delivers them from the danger they just return to their old ways. I think God should be thanked and appreciated all the time in all situation and this can be done and augmented during the salat a time when one counts His blessing and thanks Him as He deserves to be thanked. Remember that God said Rememberance is greater (understood as greater than SALAT maybe Im wrong). I think it is greater because the state of remembering God keeps one from doing evil deeds and reminds one that dificult situations are only a test thorugh which God wants to see weather we shake our belief in HIM and thus one is at peace in all situations. So this state of remembering God all the time is achieved and aided with Salat, which reminds one also of the reason for being here to serve God alone by helping the poor, the needy, and all other things mentioned in the reading, which make one righteous person thus achieving the ultimate success and that is being admitted in Paradise.
This is my present understanding and if God helps me I will try to improve my understanding of His words in the reading (Quran).God bless you all

Respectfully.Yes, but we are told to pray and Allah Most Merciful also told us how to stand in aprayer, how to pray in the danger, when to prayer, why are we praiyng, where to face when we pray, how to clean ouselves before the prayer, all of it, the Qur'an really has it all on prayer. jedi

Peace Alen,
You should remember that not all people on earth pray as muslims do and even muslims themselves have differences in the way they perform the prayers and everything else on earth has its own Salat (birds, animals) I guess they all do SALAT but it is certainly different form that of Muslims, and remember God said in Quran that among them (jews, christinas) there are those that Believe in God, believe in JD and lead a righteous life thus they will be admitted in paradise. The difference in prayer is not that important but the intention is. And the fact is that you don't see the Jews and Christians pray the way the muslims do, correct? What im tryig to convey is that the intention is the most important thing not the details. For as long as one brings a lowely spirit before God the way one does it maybe it is not that important and if it were than know that God does not run out of words and He would have certainly placed an aya or an entire chapter dedicated solely to the details of prayer. Salat existed b4 Muhamed (pbuh) and I never read or heard from anyone that he (Muhamad) was doing Salat as muslims do today when he went to the cave several times alone and sometime with his wife and also at the time when Gibril appeared before him. I think he was pondering on the creation and brought a lowely spirit b4 God and maybe asked for help to solve the problems of his people... I do not know maybe Im wrong and God knows best.
This is just my understanding because one can do all these details but be a corrupt person in everyday life.God bless

Peace all,
You want to go to paris! two question can be raised
1- How do you go to Paris with a car!
2- Why do you go to Paris to murder somebody!I just want to make clear that if the purpose to be riched in something is not clear, It would not matter how one does it!
MECHANISM AND FORM IS SECONDARY TO PURPOSE!
Check after salaat, prayer, zekr see if any purpose is served and if not you need to sharpen the focus on definition of purpose.

Respectfully.I totally agree with you, FJ, it's the intention that counts.
What about the people that lead a righeouts life, but do not follow Qur'an? I mean, i have this neighbor and she has excellent moral character, she's nice and everything, but she doesn't follow Qur'an or Bible, she is a christian orthodox but apparently prefers this world.
I mean we're all aware, that only Allah Most Powerful knows best where this person is going in the end but if it's in the Qur'an and i'm missing something, feel free to share.May Allah Most High reward you with Paradise.
As salamu alaykum.
