Why didn't God preserve the previous scriptures?

salams all,
well I find myself with a little time on my hands, so let me respond to some things that were said.
As far as those who seemed to claim that some vague closeness or belief in God is enough for salvation, I would ask them not to take some part of the book and ignore the other. You must account for verses such as
385 If anyone desires a religion other than Islam, never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter He will be in the ranks of those who have lost.
Islam is not a religion about some esoteric and vague fuzzy closeness with God. It is very practical, and at every turn we see the Quran give us directions on how to establish a successful society. A society/nation that enjoins the good, forbids the evil, and is constructed according to Allah's guidance so that in essence HE governs us rather than any individual (maaliki youm ud din). Anyway, that's just food for thought. There is no verse, including 569, that says it is okay to reject Islam.
Ahmed,
How can you claim that to arrive at Imaan you ask questions and investigate, but once you achieve Imaan you stop asking questions and act like a blind sheep? Imaan is a CONTINUOUS act. To have imaan, one must always be inquisitive alert and investigate, and thus achieve true inner peace (not the peace of a horse with blinders being beaten by his master to stay on the path).
2573 Those who, when they are admonished with ayaat of their Lord, fall not down at them as if they were deaf or blind;
We dont fall deaf and dumb even for the ayaat of Allah.
As far as your reference to 5101-2, you gave your interpretation of it, but I would like to offer an alternative.
Firstly, if you read the verse carefully, the verse must be relating to things that can be easily understood because it says that those things could be made plain to us. Secondly, IF it were made plain to us, it would cause us trouble. Thirdly, take the context, the preceding verse is talking about protecting ourselves from bad and doing good. Fourthly, take the fact that the following verse claims that previous nations DID ask and apparently did get troubled by it and lost their faith.
Is there a simple explanation for the above, or should we just put on the blinders and start talking fire and brimstone?? You took the fire and brimstone route already, so let me go for the simple explanation.
The Quran is a guidance for mankind, and it is a complete guidance and it is the furqaan. There is no indication in the Quran that anything else is required for it, it is independent and a noor, a guiding light. But, doesn't it strike you as odd that the Quran repeatedly asks us to give zakat but it doesn't add the simple 2.5% term that would be extremely helpful? The same goes for a myriad of other "details" or "applications." It tells us to pray, but not the details. There certainly are some details in the Quran, but it is largely mostly principles. Now, don't you think the natural thing people would ask is, why doesn't Allah provide those details and preserve them in the Quran for all time to come?
The answer is simple, that to do so would go against what the Quran is trying to accomplish (i.e. it would trouble us if it were made plain to us). Islam's great strength is its ability to adapt to the needs of the nation/society through time. If zakat needs to be increased or decreased, it can be done. If the model of government or economic model needs some adjustment it can be done. If punishments for various crimes need to be altered, it can be done. But if all of those things were detailed in the Quran, it certainly may have been good for a time, but eventually it would become problematic for society when those applications became obsolete and the needs of society required a change. No change would be possible, if it was recorded in the Quran. If someone asked, how should one ride a camel to work and then it was revealed, as time went on it would become obsolete as the society evolved. In fact, society has changed tremendously in the past thousand years, and MANY facets of society has changed so much that sometimes we look back at old laws and laugh, because they are so inapplicable today.
Well this is one possible interpretation of the ayaat... again, I would ask you to go and research the word imaan. It never hurts to ask a question, as long as you realize that there are limits to what a human can comprehend. If we followed your principle, no one would have asked why the sun and moon go round, why ships disappear over a horizon, why things always fall down, etc. Every breakthrough in understanding has been through people asking easy AND hard questions. What phoenix asked was important, and it has answers, and you are the only one missing out by not investigating it, and in fact, your imaan demands that you investigate everything.

Bro shaib, just quickly as I don't have time to respond to your comment now
If you read my comment well, I stated that believers can ask questions about Allah as long as there are answers to be found by Him in the Quran, and that will be the truthful answer
If there is no answers, they can still seek it through human conjectures
That is what I said bro
cheers

Behold, thy Lord said to the angels "I will create a vicegerent on earth." They said "Wilt Thou place therein one who will make mischief therein and shed blood?- whilst we do celebrate Thy praises and glorify Thy holy (name)?" He said "I know what ye know not.""I know what ye know not."
everything happened how allah wanted it to happen, why? because he knows what we do not know,so u should save yourself while u can....

And unto Allah leads straight the Way, but there are ways that turn aside if Allah had willed, He could have guided all of you.6149
Say "With Allah is the argument that reaches home if it had been His will, He could indeed have guided you all."so at the end of the road youll find that all of it was planned by one king.
so it is because he just wanted it...imagine if they didnt have changed(scriptures),everyone will see the truth, but to see it u gotta be really sincere, care about it,worry about it,and do lots of research till u get it,because its good to ask yourself such questions,it helps u find the truth.
.........
quran will never change, never! it existed and will always exist, out of allahs memory nothing escapes.
others scriptures didnt say they werent gonna not change.
and people have changed them because of envy in between them.handshake handshake handshake handshake handshake

Phoenix1, you ask a question that has been in my thoughts as I read the quran for the first time. Quran gives honor to the scriptures in existence at that time (which would be Genesis to Revelation, since quran was given over a 20-year period in the 7th century) calling them The Book. Then saying it is corrupted and not to study them lest one become beguiled by them. Honor/corrupted...how can this be? To give honor to the corrupted? If indeed they are corrupted, who corrupted them? What is his/their name? Where did he/they live? When? Why? How? Which verses? Where can uncorrupted versions be found to show the differences; what happened to them?
Jesus said that until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass away from the Law, until all is accomplished. And He said, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away." David, in Psalm 11989 says, "Forever, O LOrd, Thy word is settled in heaven." And verse 152 says, "Of old I have known Thy testimonies, that Thou hast founded them forever." The God who is able to watch over and preserve His word does not change, does He? He is ALWAYS able to protect and preserve His word, is He not?

It is the message that is preserved. Not the written text. If the written Quran gets corrupted, God will make another way to show his message. The Torah and the Injeel has obviously been corrupted or lost, but God insists on bringing out his message and continuing it.
159 Absolutely, we have revealed the reminder, and absolutely, we will preserve it.

Peace
Why didn't God preserve the previous scriptures?
peaceGod preserve the message not the scriptures..
Even the Quran has gone through many "alteration" (vowelizations) etc..
See Harsh and Warsh article, and they've found a Quran with Kuffic script. But the message is preserved..... at least in the heart of the believers.
