    Salaam all,

    As the title said, I am curious about the meaning of "an yakuunuu" in this ayat.

    The FM translation
    O you who believe, let not a people ridicule other people, for they may be better than they. Nor shall any women ridicule other women, for they may be better than they. Nor shall you mock one another, or call each other names. Evil indeed is the reversion to wickedness after attaining faith. And anyone who does not repent, then these are the transgressors.

    In the quran, does "an yakuunuu" always refers to the last mentioned group in a sentence? So...
    'asaa = may be
    an yakuunuu = they (the second group indicated by qawmin) --> still not sure
    khayran = better
    min = than
    hum = they/them (the first group indicated by qawmun) --> still not sure

    Thanks.

      Hi

      Actaully the two words "An Yakunu" is repeated in feminine form when the verse mentined the same for women "An Yakuna"

      There is no grammar rules in Arabic that controls the two words togther "An Yakunu", in fact each word has its own subject of grammar on its own, the only way to understand this senstence is to follow the context

      Allah is telling us that people should not laugh at other people, the reaosn for that is simply the second people may be better thatn the first people, so you are right and the conext can't be anything else

      cheers

        Salaam AhmedBahgat,

        Thanks a lot for clarifying ;D
        Even though I had a guess answer about my own question, it is a lot more helpful if someone who knows Arabic making it clear. Thanks again.
