What does this verse mean in reality?

Peace all. In surah 9 verse 30 it states that the jews call uzayr the son of allah in blasphemy...In the real world or in any documented history,when have any jews called uzayr (or ezra.) the son of god....? I sense a factual error here.....Anyone care to explain this one?

Peace marlboro. So the verse is supposedly just talking about an obscure/unverified event in history?...Shouldnt the verse be true/relevant today as well....? We know of many christians who call jesus the son of god,thats verifiable...Does anybody else know of any jews who call ezra the son of god?

I saw a video once that talked about a particular Yemenite Jewish sect that actually used to believe Ezra is a son of God who had special miracles and took him as an extremely important figure, and they might have been some of the people referred to in the Bible too who were asking if some reincarnated or returned Prophet had come or whatever.
The Yemeni Jews also continued the style of worship with bowing and prostrating and whatever which the modern Jews have abandoned in many cases it seems.

Who are these jews worshipping Ezra quran speaks of? To answer this question one must first look at certain events developping during Muhammads lifespan, involving the qibla/Temple Mount. This thread is not intended to be about qibla, but to understand my point of view, the reader needs to be aware I consider Jerusalem/Temple Mount to be the qiba for jews, christians and muslims. I refute the hadith belief there ever was a change in qibla as well. I will provide a link for discussing the right qibla (OP by Wakas). This thread is meant to debate the verse reading "the jews who say Ezra is a son of Allah".
Before and during Muhammads lifetime, Jerusalem went through a series of events that fueled a messianic fever among the jewish people living in Jerusalem. Before Muhammad was born, the entire Mediterrean region got hit by the Justinian Plague. This plague that raged from 541?542, crippled the entire Eastern Roman Empire. Gaza too got hit by this epidemic, the plague spread by infected rats carried on trade ships.

Not only was the power vacuum caused by the Justinian plague a huge factor in the later Islamic battles between Byzantine, Persian and Islamic forces - it also had a huge impact on Uthman. The later caliph was a trader, the trade on the arab peninsula was unaffected by the Justinian plague and offered opportunities for other traders such as Uthman and Muhammad to gain more importance. Keep this in mind, it will reveal something important later.
When Jerusalem suffered the consequences of this plague, the military Byzantian force was naturally weakened. The Persian conquest of Jerusalem met almost no resistance, and so was the Islamic conquer of Jerusalem without shedding any blood. Even though these events took place decades after the plague, the effect on man power was so devastating it was still visible.
In a next post, I will discuss the Sasanian conquest and occupation of Jerusalem in more detail and elaborate on how these events reveal more about the Jews spoken of in 930

Jerusalem was conquered by the Sasanian Empire in 614. The force conquering Jerusalem was composed of Persian forces together with Jewish rebel forces. It is rather remarkable to find Jewish rebels fighting next to Persians, who were polytheists and persecuting Jews in their own empire. Just like Quran forbids muslims to collaborate with polytheists in war, so did the Jewish have a convenant with God not to side with polytheists. The reason why these Jewish rebels still felt this was a good decision, violating their convenant, has a long background.

Jews and Samaritans were persecuted frequently by the Byzantines resulting in numerous revolts. Byzantine religious propaganda developed strong anti-Jewish elements. In several cases Jews tried to help support the Sasanian advance. A pogrom in Antioch in 608 would lead to a Jewish revolt in 610 which was crushed. Jews also revolted in both Tyre and Acre in 610. The Jews of Tyre were massacred in reprisal. Unlike in earlier times when Jews had supported Christians in the fight against Shapur I, the Byzantines had now become viewed as oppressors.
Following the Bar Kokhba revolt in 135 CE Jews were prohibited from entering the city. Constantine allowed Jews to enter for one day each year, during the holiday of Tisha B'Av. In 438 CE the Empress Eudocia removed the ban on Jews entering the city. However, following strong Christian opposition the ban was reinstated. The ban on settlement was maintained until the Arab conquest, except during the reign of the emperor Julian and from 614-617 under the Persians. Due to these circumstances Jerusalem is thought to have had only a small Jewish population prior to the events of 614.
As you can see the Jewish rebels wanted to regain control of Jerusalem and Temple Mount. They lost access to it and the whole situation must have reminded them of the Babylonic exile. More than likely the parallels with the Babylonic exile and the figure of Ezra were heavily used in propaganda to rally troops in reclaiming Jerusalem.
Keep in mind these events took place during the lifetime of Muhammad. Also keep in mind to the Jewish people this is a historical record of embarrassment, meaning its very unlikely Jews would make up a fake historical record that embarrasses them.

I identify the jews who say Ezra is a son of Allah as the Tiberian jews and the followers of Nehemiah ben Hushiel. This jewish heretic episode in history has been thoroughly suppressed in jewish historical records because it is utmost embarassing to them. But one can find still traces of this heresy in the medieval Otot ha-Ma?iah and Pirqe Ma?iah. These jews who collaborated with persians believed in a messianic return, the return of Ezra, personified by Nehemiah ben Hushiel.
