Chat Room
-
I saw someone, somewhere mentioned it would be nice to have a chat room for this forum. I agree, so I made one.
- Click on this link to find the chat
http//irc.everywherechat.com8000/?room=ThePinksFreeMinds
You can click here to see who is in the chatroom without entering
http//www.everywherechat.com/members.asp?room=ThePinksFreeMinds
- Click run.
There will be a plug in or something to download. It is harmless and we have all been using this chat just fine.
- Erase the word guest and enter a nickname.
You don't need to register or have a password. If you do want to register your name so others can't use this, once you get in the room just click twice on your name in the room members list.
4.Please pick a unique text color when you enter the room.
Too much black text drives us nuts.
- Play nice islam bashing, racism, hatemongering, anti-semitism, and the like are not allowed. I know members of this forum are not prone to the above, this warning is mostly for outsiders who might happen upon our chat.
Have fun!
*You can also access the chat room with any IRC client ( mIRC, pIRC, ircZ, Ircle etc.) The server address is irc.everywherechat.com port 7000 or 6667
**This chat is not affiliated with free-minds ownership. Also the owner of the chatroom is not responsible for anything related to anything about this chat. Furthemore, umm...oh yea, we do not endorse any opinions that are being expressed. They are the opinions of the individual only. If they happen to be a miserable hatemongering human being with a personality disorder, that is not reflected on the owners at all, and we do not agree with it.
****The room may, or may not, be moderated- so if there is an obnoxious person, make use of the ignore button. If we catch them at it, unless they can entertain us with multiple personalities, they will prolly be banned for being boring. Also, we reserve the right to change anything anytime. Stuff like that.

I've been there earlier today, was quite fun. There's even a resident shadow. I'm going to sticky it here for some time to advertise it.

Peace to all my brothers and sisters,
I would like to keep this chatroom idea going, it really does have potential if we can just fix a few things. The chatroom we have now is not affiliated with this website, it was started by a sister here and it is linked under her post in the chatrrom topic. However, evben though this is a start its not quite what i was hoping for, no offense Pink, i really appreciate you trying to help and it has worked well so far, but I would like to see if we can take it to the next level.
We need to have a chatoom button on the mainpage of this website so as soon as anyone comes to the site they have the option of chatting while they read or type new posts. It is also important that this site and chatroom can be found just by searching google for chatrooms or Islam. As of now, there are many chatrooms that discuss the traditional Islam, and those that are new, curious, or learning about Islam end up in these rooms and are taught traditional Islam which usually ends up scaring them away or confusing them. So it is important that the chat button is on the main page and can be found by those interested in Islam by searching the internet. Once we can get new people interested we can try to teach them of Quran and God alone before they get taught the traditional Islam.
So far, I have been in the room quite a few times and it really is going to work. I feel like I got to know the few people I talked to there in a way more personal and we have begun to develop a real friendship with each other, this is also one of the reasons I want to start a chat room here, to get to know all you brothers and sisters in belief.
Please keep making your suggestions or comments so that we may grow together as a brotherhood of believers.
Peace to all,
Kurt

Sure Iron, I have no issue with it if the owners of this forum want to make a chat wth a button on the main page. I can tell them how, it is very simple. Actually, they can prolly figure it out better than I can.
do disagree a bit with your goals Iron, not entirely...but a bit. I undersand what you are saying about new muslims and being taught 'traditional islam' but I am not sure it is really the place of 'free-minds' to 'teach' yet another dogma to anyone is it? The impression I get is that this place is for people to discuss many different issues and doesn't really have it's own 'dogma' or 'school of thought' other than an emphasis on the Qur'an. To me, trying to 'convert' people to 'our way of thinking' kinda sets this place up to being yet another sect....know what I mean? What do you think?
On the other hand, I can completely sympathasize with the desire to save people alot of the hell we all went through in going the traditonal route, only to end up fleeing from it. I have done quite a bit of 'teaching people Islam' over the years - but of course, that was more 'traditional oriented'. Personally, I just want a break to figure out my own views, and I definitely want a break arguing/debating with traditional muslims on some basic premises. I worry that a 'main chat' will simply draw alot of the wacko's who will just come around to abuse people and call them deviant. Right now I personally, am looking for a chat that is more directed at moving foward in my own understanding, rather than treading water going over the same material trying to convince traditonal (or other) muslims, or non-muslims of it. This is just my personal preference, and I would like to get feedback from others on what they would like to see.

I actually like just the discussion boards without a chatroom. I don't like the idea of a chatroom at all. If people would like to chit-chat there are tons of IM programs available. A chatroom could bring about more issues and problems for moderators to have to tackle. The discussion boards bring an array of topics so that anyone at any level of understanding can join in and come out with something useful. Moderators could log in any time and enforce rules as needed. That's just my take on it and my preference. But that said, I think it's great that you took the initiative to help out sis ThePink, because others did have an interest in chatting. Maybe if it was left as something not really affiliated with Free-Minds as it is now, the issues of enforcing proper conduct and having administrators in the room at all times would be eliminated. So just my opinion, I would say if they kept this chat room as is, it would offer a place for users who would like to use it without worrying about the responsiblity that comes with adding that new feature to the website.
Peace All

So far we have been doing pretty good with a handful of moderators. Most of the people have been very well behaved, mature adults. Thank God. ha
yeah
I do tend to agree that it would be a hassle for the forum to have an 'official' chat room based on experience but I am more than game if that is what Layth and them want.
