Holidays other than the Eids
-
Salam,
I was wondering, I understand the concept of not celebrating in holidays that honor other gods, but if the holiday is only for the purpose of being with family and never includes worshipping or imagery or any other sort of relegious practice other than islam, is it okay to still participate?
I am wondering because my family are christians, whom belong to no church or denomination, but have always celebrated christmas and thanksgiving, but never read the bible or pray to jesus, or any of these things at the time of celebration, it is just something they continue to have dinners on so that all the family can get together,...
I have spoken with several imams, whom all said that I could go, but not celebrate, but participate??? confusing...also I would like a clear verse in the Quran...if any can find it...and what does every think about celebrating birthdays?
Just curious...

Shokran Zenje,
Thank you for the link to that previous forum, however I still have not see any clarification by statements in the Quran.
I beleive that it is the true intention of your heart and soul and beleif and faith in god that is judged, and I feel there is no reason not to come together with family on those days, when you are not performing rituals such as things that are against islam (Submission of God) .
Let me know if you ever find any quranic verses to state anything near this topic!
Peace,
Honor
